I contend that Palin did not pass the Turing test... by not answering so many questions. The moderator must have concluded that she was a program. |

| Plan B 3.0 |

| | Jonathan Coulton | ] | Today my landlord recommended that I have a look at Plan B 3.0, by Lester Brown. Like most young people I know, I've always been concerned about the usual disaster scenarios - the ones that are completely seriously predicted by scientists - like melting polar icecaps, or (more) widespread malaria. A hundred years ago these things would be dismissed as complete rubbish - and some people still dismiss them. However, the problems are real (as we in the world are seeing more and more clearly every day). I have only read the first chapter, but this Plan B 3.0 book takes on all of the problems at once - and suggests a rapid response in order to avoid catastrophe and collapse. I'd recommend it to anyone - read it - let's save the world. |

Have you ever have this problem in Mac OS X? You just downloaded a program and when you double-click Script Editor launches and then displays an error? The error is 'Unable to read the dictionary of the application or extension because it is not scriptable.'
There is an easy way to solve this problem. Do 'Get Info' on the offending application and make sure the Name & Extension ends in '.app'. So, for example, an offending Epson utility downloads to the file 'epson11390.sea', which does not end in .app; just rename it to 'epson11390.app' and then it launches correctly. |

| Doom 2099 |

| [ | music |
| | Teilhard Frost - Katydids And Poplar Buds | ] | It reveals the comic book geek in me, but a friend got me the Marvel Encyclopedia for xmas, and I'm real excited about the Doom 2099 entry (I emphasized the fun part):
In 2099, a man claiming to be the original Dr. Doom returned to the nation of Latveria. He had no memory of how he came to be transported into the future. Upon his arrival, Doom discovered that a man named Tiger Wylde, an elite corporate muscle man, had seized the throne of Latveria, declaring himself dictator. Wylde had caused the people to fall into violence and poverty, but Doom overthrew the pretender and once again made Latveria a great nation .
As I always say, Doom is as Doom does. |

Hehe! What fun! Maybe I'll post more, maybe not. Unfortunately, I had to turn on the ads to get this part to work (sorry); if I start posting more, I'll upgrade with $$. |

| | "And she was" - Talking Heads | ] | After my phone was lost&stolen a while back, I got a Nokia 6682. It's pretty cool. I listen to music with it - it has a 1 GB flash memory postage-stamp sized MMC card - and I browse the web and do email with Gmail. Not perfect in every way, but I'm having fun with it.. Oh yeah - and Google Local is totally useful on a cell phone. Anyways, I'm just posting because I was thinking "Wouldn't it be able if I could post pictures from my phone?" (since it's got a camera too). So I'll see about that. The phone came with this "Lifeblog" thing.. maybe it'll integrate? |
