Bring Back the Snakes Day
Current sun clock from today, March 16, 2004:

For comparison, the same sunclock, a month and a half ago:

In 5 more days, night and day will stand as equals; then, the Hump of Night will swallow the Southern Hemisphere while days grow longer in the North.

Tomorrow, March 17, is Bring Back the Snakes Day, or as the heathens call it, "St. Patrick's Day."

A few facts about St. Patrick:

  • He wasn't Irish, he was Roman.
  • There never were any snakes in Ireland.
  • "Driving the snakes out of Ireland" is a euphemism for leading the slaughter of the indigenous Celtic pagans.

Now, tomorrow I'll be wearing green to celebrate the arrival of spring, and surely I'll raise a pint or two of Guiness in honor of the Emerald Isle. But an Irish person celebrating "St. Patrick's Day" is as absurd as a Mexican celebrating "Cortez Day."

    Bring Back the Snakes:
(Sung to the tune of "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean")

"My land was a jewel most blessed,
My people both happy and free,
Till the preachers came in with their crosses,
And drove all the snakes out to sea."

    Bring back, bring back, bring back the snakes to me, to me;
Bring back, bring back, O bring back the snakes to me!

your sun charts remind me of the calendar system you used to use on e-sheep...I was wondering if you could link me to that site with the scientific calendar? I'm just curious which scientist replaces what we would call "March."

Ah! You mean the Tranquility Calendar.

Current Tranquility date is Imhotep 15, 35 A.T. (March on the Gregorian calendar usually falls across Imhotep and Jung.)

I always thought it was "My Body Lies Over the Ocean." No, it didn't make sense. But it was so silly I loved it! Sigh....

    Hi,
I'd like to add one little amendment to your version of St Patrick's story. Ireland was in fact already in possession of a form of christianity, it just wasn't Roman Catholicism. The Coptic church were well established in Ireland just as they were in most other european countries. The Catholic church saw fit to send Patrick as a missionary to Ireland in order to convert not Pagans but Coptics to thier particular cult.
