Deepak Chopra & Ohio's 2nd Congressional District, and how the *refresh* button is my friend
Deepak Chopra told me today to let go of my negative feelings towards others, that holding grudges against people only serve to draw ones focus and energy away from those things that really need to be done... so... as he asked I repeated the words he wanted me to... ok done... not that I'm currently holding grudges but still... and wtf... who does he think he is, just barging in on me like that... wtf man...
so... the funny thing that Deepak was referencing the 2nd Congressional district was kind of strange... I mean... my attention is pointed there for a different reason today... Paul Hackett... running in a district who's Base Democratic Turnout is somewhere in the ballpark of 30%, and apparently voted 75% for Bush in '04... well tonight is sort of like a chance to get a little payback... I'm hoping for a win... I'd like to believe the $50.01 I chipped in, did some good... unfortunately it's looking like it'll be a squeaker if it does happen. I don't care how it happens as long as it does happen... I really don't want to jinx this but man... it'd be so nice... have some people wake up and smell the coffee and push DC on notice that all is not well in this kingdom of theirs... so I sit here and I keep hitting the "refresh" button on my browser every ten minutes... waiting for the new tallies to appear. The election board is updating every 10 minutes, but I've had some issues getting into their site so... refresh... refresh... refresh...
Zach's lucky... he got to go help on GOTV... I wish I could've gone... I've asked off for so much time though, and didn't recognize how late in the game it had gotten before I had even started to pay attention to the race... so I sent $50.01... I know it's not alot I should've sent more... but really I don't have a lot of money to be throwing around (and as they say, you can't afford NOT to give as much as you can... so perhaps I was slacking again)...
I applied for a senate position yesterday, that was interesting... Walking through the Hart office building... searching for the employment office... Sat at a terminal, filled out the job application... turned it in, met with a counselor, we chatted for about 15-20 minutes... Nice nice lady... she had an unmistakeable Boston accent - like Ted Kennedy had personally put her in the position she now held. She claimed to be non-partisan, but it seemed like the office was non-partisan, she seemed to genuinely feel for me when I said I was a Dem from MO "not too many democratic senators from Missouri, are there now?"... HA!!!! (yeah seeing as there's NONE!!!)... (REFRESH... LOAD DAMMIT... FINAL TALLIES SHOULD BE IN!!!) anyway, we talked a little bit about the organizational charts of Senate offices, and what I should do and what I should expect... I was told to not expect a call before Friday... Great... JUST WHEN I'm GOING OUT OF FREAKING TOWN!!! Oh well... voice mail and cell phones... that's why we got'em... time to keep the fingers crossed...
Speaking of which... I really need the W situation to pull through... I had a good time when we went out... but I'm not sure what she's thinking... she's kinda veiled at the moment... partially due to circumstances, partially due to bad timing... oh if only this week could've played itself out 2 months ago... GAH... she's incredible though... fingers crossed for her too...
... and so now I'm off to check tallies and then get to bed... got to be up for work in 5 hours... gah... not enough time... not enough time at all...
