I have a huge backlog of interesting things that I've been wanting to share with folks, like that cool new iPod Shuffle I can't wait to get my hands on. I'm not going to come close to hitting them all up, but here goes...
The *unreleased* Fiona Apple album Extraordinary Machine has leaked online [torrent]. It's been in the news, but worth mentioning anyways, since it's pretty good, and provides yet more evidence that record labels are stupid. This album has been in storage for almost two years. Thank goodness it's out of the closet.
An old, old but really, really good Ryan Adams demo recorded with Gillian Welch and David Rawlings is also available for download. The Destroyer Sessions were meant to be an album, but Ryan put in more work and put out Heartbreaker. I'm not complaining. I'm just happy to have both.
For those of you familiar with my issues in the morning, you'll be pleased to know that MIT is on the job inventing something for me. It's called Clocky. If it ever gets released, it would make the perfect companion for
windexcowboy's Roomba. Let's be honest though. I would manage to sleep through it anyways.
Despite all the hubbub about Google Desktop, I have personally found Copernic to be much better. Google Desktop was constantly indexing in the background, and phoning home all the time, as well as not returning useful results and having very few of the configuration options I really wanted. Copernic has proven better on all counts. If you haven't used a desktop search program, once you start, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.
Finally, this information may end up being completely useless, but if you live on the East Coast, I will be flying into JFK Sunday morning and leaving Monday the 4th. So let's try to hang out or something. For those of you who are Drewids, I'm aiming to be on campus Tuesday afternoon/evening.
