Weekly World News I just read at Salon that the Weekly World News is ceasing publication on 8/27. There are a couple of articles out there which talk about working on/for WWN and which are kind of neat for "behind the scenes" (if a bit jarring) - previous Salon link, LA Times, Washington Post. Wikipedia entry isn't bad, either. I've heard that they will still maintain the website. I'm going to check the local supermarkets and see if I can find a copy this week. Huh? There were zombies today? Good thing I stayed home sick. Blah. If this keeps up, I'll probably call in sick tomorrow, too. Guess I should turn the radio on. Good thing I bought groceries yesterday. ... Damn, can't find the radio. I wonder if KUOW is still streaming over the net. ... Oh fuck it, I can't hear anything over the moaning anyway. You know, survival doesn't seem that exciting when you're feeling miserable. I'm just saying. . Current Mood: blah | | Wednesday, October 25th, 2006 | | 12:00 am |
*squeal* I didn't realize that there was an FFV Advance coming out in two weeks. Zomg! New job classes? So exciting! I can't wait to play a hopefully non-sucky port. The psx collections had such irritating load times... Current Mood: excited | | Thursday, August 17th, 2006 | | 9:58 pm |
Granado Espada Waaah! Insert Credit dropped a note about this new MMO and I want to play. It sounds very pretty. But they're not looking for people in the U.S. to beta-test. :( I seem to have forgotten to eat dinner. :/ | | Sunday, June 11th, 2006 | | 10:05 pm |

<3 American short stories I've finally tracked down and read Edith Wharton's "Roman Fever" after hearing part of it a few weeks ago, and if you haven't, this short story is available here or here (or maybe other places on the web, but NOT Project Gutenberg or the University of Virginia Electronic Text Library, that I could find). I'm not sure why I never read it before, but then again, I'm not sure when I would have read it. It's good - it made me grin madly when I read it yesterday, and I liked it so much, I thought it was worth posting. You? [ETA:] Currently working through some O. Henry, too, after running into "The Third Ingredient", which I hadn't read before but quite enjoyed (very O. Henryish fairy-tale, but the female protagonist seems stronger than usual, and the ending's nicely wry). (That one *is* available at Gutenberg as the second story in Options, but linking the exact page includes potentially spoiling "The Rose of Dixie", which is the first story in the collection and which ends on a kicker. That's not a bad story either - amusing (but I've read it before in other places). If you want to read just "The Third Ingredient", this google search will get you links.) [ETA2:] I suppose my literary tastes may differ drastically from others'. I wonder if you can tell what kind of person I am by the stories I like to read? [ETA3:] Okay. Read No Story and tell me how you can't adore O. Henry. Best of the bunch I read last night... Also, I may <3 Austin, TX - the Austin History Center has an O. Henry Collection, and I think they are going to help me look something up! | | Tuesday, November 29th, 2005 | | 9:53 pm |

huh. From insert credit: Those of you who enjoyed Broco's fan translation project and/or Tim's explanatory article regarding Gyakuten Saiban 3 will be thrilled, and scared, and puzzled, by Capcom's demented Japanese lawyer simulator series is scheduled for a 2005 North American release on the Nintendo DS. Also, a few websites indicate this is a port of the third game, but Iggy suggests on MMC that most of the images unveiled, if not all, looked suspiciously similar to the first installment. This means GS DS may either be a remake of the original Gyakuten Saiban, or a compilation of the trilogy. Thanks to the French-language Happy DS for the news.links to: broco's fan translation projectTim's explanatory articleMMCHappy DS... Actually, also covered by IGN (also here). "That being said, the developers are still looking to greatly expand the series with things such as voice support (Objection!) and perhaps even prosecution versus defense multiplayer." | | Sunday, August 1st, 2004 | | 4:48 am |

music Nobuo Uematsu! A god among men! I hated FF8, but "The Landing" kicks ass. It is currently on play on the Radio@Netscape "Final Fantasy" station, linked from the square-enix home page somewhere. In other (?) news, I would like a piano please. Maybe I will spend my tax refund on a nice digital piano. Current Music: "The Landing" from FFVIII | | Sunday, March 21st, 2004 | | 12:34 am |
democracy This post caught my eye while slumming through taiwan's friendslist. So, um, anyone with more political science expertise than me... is it normal for democracies to be so deeply polarized, or do they break down after a certain point if that sort of thing keeps up? also, handel and cecilia currently playing on loop in my car: "What passion cannot music raise and quell" from Ode to St Cecilia's Day (Handel). This is even the specific recording I've got, I think. Predictably, the 30-second clip for the relevant track (#4) quits right before the "really cool part". (It is a descending motif, as usual. I am such a sucker.) The cello melody sounds kind of familiar. This one I picked up on whim from a Tower Records. It seemed pretty successful; maybe I will try buying more Handel vocal music I've never heard before. (That's kind of interesting about Bach, that I always liked whatever I bought. I am becoming more discerning about "bad performances" though. I was >this close< to buying a sketchy $3 Vivaldi cello concerti CD, and then I remembered that I only really liked his multi-instrumental concerti. I mean, in general. There are a few Vivaldi one-violin concerti I like, but they might be from years of conditioning.) | | Sunday, November 2nd, 2003 | | 11:03 pm |

2am don tonberry check rikku - 40700 tidus - 87300 yuna - 15800 kimahri - 65000 lulu - 27200 auron - 85100 wakka - 99999
how does wakka have 1000+ kills? also, how come I never noticed this before? I wouldn't've thought that he did more captures than the others, and i've only been using him again pretty recently (he's got break damage and break hp limit now.. today was "be kind to wakka day"..), I mean, to fight, not that silly "Healer/Support Wakka" I've been using all week.
my sphere grid manipulations now present the following max HP stats:
rikku - 32260 tidus - 32120 yuna - 7275 kimahri - 5244 lulu - 5450 auron - 4030 wakka - 32518
yeah, auron sort of has sucky stats now (I have been clearing and replacing nodes in his area without bothering to replace his lost stats). Otoh, it makes the don tonberry comrade mode "make sphere levels fast" trick *very* speedy. it also makes getting hp spheres pretty easy -- i challenge Iron Clad, i use auron's overdrive to break armor, Iron Clad counters and totally whips auron's ass, this *totally* fills up rikku's overdrive meter, rikku's auto-phoenix revives auron, rikku entrusts her overdrive to auron (thereby filling his meter in preparation for the next match), rikku and wakka/tidus do 99,999-damage quick hits until it overkills, neatly sidestepping Iron Clad's counters due to their 200+ evasion. with auto-haste, iron clad never even gets in a real turn. rinse, repeat. I mean, the limiting factor here is running out of MP because of the quick hits.
It's possible that some of my characters might be a little pumped.

acquxxxxired and working: ps2! also, a copy of ffx without the manual. I am nearing two hours in (about to enter Besaid proper after bonding with Wakka by fighting bad guys). Of course, now it is 3am, but ps2 > bumming around on zephyr.

wager! Don't giggle. :) You're welcome to assist me in finding viable candidates to win this wager. Post a comment, or z or e-mail me personally.. ( spikeyhedgehog is of the belief that he will never hook up with anybody before he graduates. I scoffed, and thus this was developed. You can tell where.. um... hariyos had some influence in the language of this text.) "If spikeyhedgehog has hooked up with somebody by the time he walks at Commencement from MIT for his Bachelor's degree (projected June 2006, unless he does the MEng-combined thing and it's put off until June 2007), then perbac wins. If spikeyhedgehog has not hooked up with somebody by then, then spikeyhedgehog wins.
"Hooking up shall be defined as either being:
- a one-night stand involving a level greater than or equal to including "topless groping"; or,
- an unambiguous relationship (not necessarily to include mere casual dating, unless it includes obvious relationship overtones) lasting not shorter than 2 weeks (14 days).
" spikeyhedgehog shall be allowed some discretion in choosing, but not allowed to directly drive away anybody for the sake of winning this wager. perbac shall be allowed to attempt to set up spikeyhedgehog, or request assistance from others in doing so, for the sake of winning this wager. Both parties shall agree to be sincere and gentlemany, and avoid devious tactics (eg., bribing someone to pretend to like and date spikeyhedgehog).
"Whoever loses will pay for dinner for the other person at a nice restaurant.
" hariyos will enforce the terms of the wager, and pass judgement if issues arise." Current Mood: amused |
