Title: Why "Do It Yourself" Isn't
Author/Artist: Penguin
Pairing: Sanada x Yukimura
Fandom: Tenipuri
Theme: 22. 揺り籠, cradle
Disclaimer: Konomi Takeshi owns the boys, and thus gets the munnies. I am but a humble fangirl.
Most people knew that, when seeing "some assembly required" on a toy box, it was usually a gross understatement on the behalf of the toymakers. Sanada Genichirou was not one of these people.
And so it came about that Sanada was sitting in the middle of a mass of assorted parts in the Yukimura household's den, scowling at the blueprints of the doll cradle he'd promised to construct for his captain's younger sister. Saki, said younger sister, watched impassively from the couch.
"Would Sanada-san like me to get big brother to help?" asked she, absently stroking her doll's hair.
Sanada spared a quick look up. Coupled with the porcelain doll and the curled pigtails, the child was far too frightening to look for any length of time. Sanada gave a brief shudder.
"...I'm fine, thank you."
Sanada frowned for a moment, then slowly turned the blueprints right-side-up.
Saki gave a short, breathy sigh. "Big brother has very strange taste," she remarked before standing. "Come, Julianna."
The porcelain doll continued to gaze at Sanada with glassy, staring eyes. Sanada gulped. Saki smoothed out her skirt, seemingly oblivious to Sanada's discomfort.
Padding into the kitchen, Saki gave a more pronounced sigh.
"Big brother, what in the world possessed you to get him to build Julianna's cradle?" she asked, setting her doll into a kitchen chair. Julianna flopped slightly as Saki took the seat next to her. "He'll have a breakdown before the night is out."
Yukimura clicked his tongue, setting cookies onto a plate at the counter. "Saki-chan, you still have a lot to learn about the proper handling of one's manslaves."
Saki's shoulders slumped. "But...I've been practicing with the boys in my class. I even managed to make one faint the other day with the hair-flipping thing you taught me."
Offering a cookie and a smile to his younger sister, Yukimura assured, "Don't worry, you're progressing very well. 'Different men need different touches to lure them into our clutches,' remember?"
Saki thought for a moment, breaking the cookie in half. "...I suppose," she said, tucking one half into Julianna's tiny white hands. "You know, big brother, I think that Sanada-san is disquieted by Julianna."
"Is he?" Yukimura slanted a look at the doll. The doll returned the gaze, stare for stare. "...I can't imagine why."
Yukimura took up the plate of cookies and set off for the den. He was vaguely surprised not to find Sanada curled into a fetal position in the corner, but to find him seated in the middle of the room, back straight, eyes closed, and an aura of Zen-like calm about him. It appeared that Sanada had reached his breaking point and had retreated into his Happy Place.
What he didn't know is that Sanada's Happy Place involved Yukimura, a hot summer night, and barely-on yukata. It was a pity, as Yukimura would have been glad to make the Happy Place a reality.
As it were, Yukimura simply padded up and ran his fingers through Sanada's hair. Sanada's eyes blinked open; he groaned and leaned into the touch. Yukimura smiled, setting the plate of cookies down next to him.
"Having a bit of trouble?"
Sanada twitched. "There have been...delays."
"Ahh." Yukimura sat next to Sanada, leaning against him. "What kind of delays are these?"
Sanada bit back the instinctive 'your sister's creepy-looking doll' response and settled for a, "...I can't find the screwdriver."
Yukimura made a sympathetic noise. "That is a problem. You do know that this cradle set was designed to snap together without tools, right?"
Sanada was very quiet for a moment. Yukimura sensed that he was making a rapid descent back into his Happy Place, and thus took preventative measures.
After a few minutes, Sanada drew back from the kiss for air. Yukimura smiled sweetly, lying onto the floor and unbuttoning the last few buttons on his shirt that hadn't been tended to.
"I think you'll have another delay, Genichirou." Yukimura gave an exaggerated sigh. "I hate to intrude on your work so..."
"Not a problem," Sanada mumbled, fumbling with his own shirt. A thought occurred to him, and he quickly walked over to the door to properly lock it.
As he took a brief glance into the hall, he saw a tiny, shadowed figure seated in the middle of the hallway.
Julianna sat with a sign in her porcelain hands: "Do keep the delays short. I fancy a nap."
The resulting delay was more a result of Yukimura having to comfort a trembling Sanada than any actual macking.
