let me clear my throat.
Sorry that i did not get to post the photos yesterday like i had hoped.
I went to help Spartacus Books - the vancouver non-profit, volunteer run radical bookstore - with their big move. We have bought all the shelving and furniture from the now out-of-business Granville Book Company and have to move it all out of there and into our storage space by saturday or we lose it. I was supposed to be there from 1 to 4 or 5. i ended up working my ass off from 1:30 until past 10pm. Admittedly, it was awesome fun with rad people (graham, travis, david, bob, rickie, steven, molly and a woman named stephanie that i just met that day) but when i got home i was EXHAUSTED and very fucken grumpy.
in any case, here's the update i had promised:
THE METRO MAKEOUT
i was really nervous that no one was going to show. but they did. more than 35 of them (we think, there never was a final count). we gathered on the platform, paired singles, put on 'team makeout' stickers and generally just got organized and worked up.
There was also a TV reporter there from CTV news who interviewed some people and came on the train with us, she was a pretty nice woman and a really good sport.
Around 6:15 we boarded a train and started madly making out. There was lots of laughing, partner switching, picture taking and people watching. We got a variety of reactions: some people laughed, some people ignored us, some people made rude comments and one woman kept covering her mouth as if she was going to be ill (i don't know if that had more to do with the public display of affection or the fact that 80% of the couples were queer). In general though i'd say that it was a pretty effective prank. I say this because we had a blast and we disrupted regular life for a little while. go us.
pictures!

the crowd gathers! we got a lovely selection of folks. lots of people that i didn't know either, which was awesome. you can also see the reporter in this shot.

daniel and i on the platform at broadway station. i'm pretty frazzled in this photo and daniel looks so chill.

i like this one solely based on the face that sarah is making in it.
also, fergie's outfit is pretty wicked.
a bunch of metro makeout action:

i actually hauled ass from one side of the train to the other just to take this photo. damn.

damn gwen and heidi are so fucking hott!

dave and jesse (what luck that we had TWO 6'5" tall gay men and not just one)

there was pretty much no incidents and we were left mostly alone to do our thing, but some people did get asked for proof of fare payment by the transit cops, like here we see leanne and nicco getting checked.

at waterfront station we all ran across the platform to catch the returning train. it was pretty funny because we all dashed across to the waiting train, which only had 2 passengers on it, and we all immidiately started kissing. those two passengers musta been hella confused.
now here's a series of photos taken by a gentleman named richard who attended in order to document the event. all these photos are linked to the originals.

daniel and fergie. this was one of my pairings. i'm a makeout match maker.

anna, sarah and hugs.

david and jesse. hottness.

anna and i practically kissing on top of a reporter from an asian newspaper (i should email them and see if they printed anything about this....)

the chaos of cameras.

reporter taking a photo of nathaniel and i kissing.

my lady melissa and anna.

clogging up the skytrain

interview, pre-makeout
After the makeout was over a bunch of folk came back to my place for a party. it was a pretty fun shindig that mostly took place on the back porch. there were tons of us sitting all up and down the staircases, drinking, laughing and smoking shisha. there was also a small dance party at one point in the living room (which was all i wanted, really).

the packed staircase of partydom

shisha, wine and my friends. damn my life is sweet.
seriously, i was both too drunk and too tired to take more pictures than this.
the party went on until about 3-ish. many rad conversations and silly antics. i ended the night with a long conversation in the cold on the back porch and some good ole foolin' around with a friend.
p.s. i'm going to get some video of this up over the weekend.
*8*8*8*8*8*8*8*8*8*8*8*8*8*
the next day i walked to temple with jesse, ate delicious food, walked back, tried to work, fell asleep, woke up and worked some more, ate sushi, and generally felt tired... you know that sort of feeling one gets post-big-hoopla. you just want everything to stop and be vacuous for a while so that you can relax a little bit.
Monday was of similar caliber. worky work. gym. errands. you know, regular life. in the evening i made supper for myself, nicco and jesse (dave came home a while later and joined us). we ate, drank wine and had some really fabulous conversations about all sorts of things (police brutality, moving, montreal, families, salad dressing, porn, bad music, christmas lights). nicco is fucken delightful. DE-LIGHT-FUL.
Tuesday was a major work day. I recycled some old papers about Bob into a little more than 5 pages for my thesis. GO ME! i also went to the gym to take a run because my legs were absolutely killing me from some alterations and additions that i had made to my previous day's weight training program (without doing adequate stretching, stupid stupid me). it didn't help. i was in such pain all day on Tuesday that sitting down, getting up, climbing stairs or any other activity that involved my thigh muscles was pure hell on earth. that'll learn me i suppose. OH, but the neato thing about the gym: my yoga teacher was at the reception desk when i walked in and asked me about team makeout! ha! i was so taken off guard that i just sort of stammered. at that point he looked like he was wondering if he had mistaken me for someone else and said "that was you in the paper right" and i responded "ugh, yeah, that was me, i do team makeout" and i had a conversation with him about it... which is weird because i turn into the most shy and frightened person in the gym (it's really not an empowering space for me) and this man is particularly hard to talk to because he sees me fucking up in yoga class every week, which is embarassing. not to mention, he's pretty darn attractive.
In the evening i went to celebrities with david and jesse. Jackie, Robyn, K-leen and Jocelyn were there as well and we all danced up a storm.
and this would be the moment to say: i adore jackie. she's an incredibly intelligent person who knows how to deliver a line, a rad dancer and has a way of moving her hands that is soothing.

she's off to japan on saturday and i will miss her muchly. safe travels jackie.
Afterward david, jesse and i went to gay denny's, had milkshakes and good conversation and then david and i made the long fucking trek back to the east side (fuck transit at 3am sucks ass).
and that's pretty much up to speed.
oh except that last friday i was a chaperone at the queer prom! (can you believe that i am adult enough to be a chaperone???) it rocked! i wish that there had been something this cool in montreal when i was in high school. i've never seen so many wicked young people having a really great time, zero drama, zero hate, zero bullshit. people of all genders and sexualities dancing their asses off! i got all dressed up and when i was dancing i'd close my eyes and pretend that i was back in Block C of my high school, at a dance, and it felt like i was fixing something that was broken in my memory.
plus i made out with andrea.
i'm allowed to post these cause they are all of volunteers, not the youth.

devin and i at the prom. devin's doing post-dancing stretches.

nat looking super fine

sarah looked like such a rock star in that hat! and she is a fantastic dancer.

punch?

the extreme femme challenge: walk in these spike heels all night. i love these shoes even if they make me want to die by the end of the night.
