Art Dolls
I have many art projects that I play with all the time. One I have dabbled in a few times is making art dolls. Night before last, after I'd gone upstairs to go to bed, I was drawn to create an art doll.

So, I went into the sewing room and sat down to see what I had to work with. I had this fabric I'd bought at the Paducah Quilt Show last year about this time. I was just a foot square or so, but it was plenty for this. The blue flowered fabric I had from a garment I made before I went to Egypt. The ribbon I just had lying around. The only thing I couldn't find was something for arms and legs. A quick look through my vanity revealed some cording that had come on something. It was the right color and seemed to do the trick. I used it as it was on the legs, and split it in two for the arms.

I am very interested in the concept of using what's around. I often do art projects with just whatever happens to be onhand. I'm not sure if there's a name for this, but I'm enchanted by the process. It gives one freedom to be "bad" because you don't have exactly what you need too. I love freedom. :)

Obviously, this is a quickie version and I haven't done it in a long time, but I find her rather appealing. Although it's not a great version, and some embellishment would do her good, I'm happy with the first go at it in a while. The little pocket made from teal ribbon on her really is a pocket. I have to think about what to tuck in there.

This doll is really cUte, Patsy. How clever to just suddenly decide to make one and, hey presto, there it is! How big is she? It's not possible to tell from the picture. Does she have a special purpose or does she just feel good company in your pocket? I love her!

She's about 7 inches from the top of her head to the bottom of her feet, hair extra of course. lol I have the urge to give her to my friend, Diana, with something fun tucked into her pocket. I'm not sure *why* I feel this urge, but I do... so I probably will give her away. I often make something with just what I have on hand - maybe I need to come up with a word for that. lol I have done collages with the rule that everything on them has to be from my desk or something like that. For some reason the idea appeals to me. I'm so glad you like her. One of the things about this journal is that it's the first place I've ever shared much about my "creations." It's interesting to hear other's thoughts. Thanks! Patsy
