well im still staying down near london right now. i should have returned home on the 30th april, but the night before i was due to travel, jack became quite ill and was being sick alot and looked ashen. managed to get him seen by my parents doctor, who said jack had a nasty virus thats going around. got some antibiotics for him and didnt catch the train home.
its now almost a week over my original stay and richard my husband is climbing the walls wanting us back home. couldnt manage to get a cheap enough ticket for anything before this week is up. its doing both mine and richards head in. im really eager to get home now, i had my fun meeting up with rhane and buying loads of zines and things, but now im just about fed up with being caught in limbo. me and jack will be on the train monday night and will get into inverness early tuesday but wont get home properly until midday. jacks missing his dad and seems to be almost 100% well again and is getting restless. |

i will have money burning a hole in my pocket and intend to spend it on zines and rubber stamp stuff.
i need to get my hair cut again, its been a while and i was thinking of the free haircuts by hairdressing students on london. has anyone here ever done this and what is the luck like for getting a good job done or not? a few years ago would have done it without worry cos i was like that, and if it was a dodgy do i would have just shaved it all off, but i dont want to do that now. |

| am i being unreasonable.......... |
[Jan. 18th, 2008|05:57 pm] |

am i wrong in my opinion that on a young childrens tv channel that is based within the UK and is english spoken should be promoting good verbal skills? by this i mean that if it is english spoken, then it should be teaching good english grammar that is clearly understood?
i detest all this street slang and poor language skills that seem to be populer with todays teens.
i just overheard a story session on the childrens channel, that i dont think should have been aired. it was a story full of street slang and bad grammar. i do not want my child to listen to this and think its normal!
am i being unreasonable in my opinion that the english language is being butchered? i admit i have never been a "posh" speaker but i dont like the ugly slang and unintelligable scum/chav language that seems to be growing like cancer, where ever you go or listen these days. |

| | pleased | ] | jack has finally started to walk. i mean he could have done this a while ago but he is a lazy little sod. for a long while we have watched him when he doesnt realise he is being watched and we see him walking from one end of the playpen to the other. whenever we tried to encourage him, he always plonked himself down on the floor. anyway my youngest neice is his playmate (she is ten) and he really loves being around her, she has beencoaxing him to walk around the house with her, and each day he insists on walking around exploring and finding family members in various rooms.
he looks so cute tottering about the house with his little tush sticking out.
mommas so proud of him. |

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE
2007 has been a weird year for me. on the positive side of things, ive had a good year with jack, hes kept me very busy. but the negative side is that i had become very self centered with my hobby interests - which means that although i have been very self absorbed i had failed to acchieve any of my creative goals in 2007 which means i did absolutely zero stuff for relaxation which means i have been so uptight and tetchy the entire year. i think i have come across as a stroppy mean bitch in some of the website forums i frequent. i am not really like that....well i am slightly, but i think i have managed to cause many newer members of these sites who dont know me as well as some online buddies to avoid me. i have also thoroughly neglected many of my old online buddies and havent been a nice friend to them. they continue our random mail swaps and send me nice things occasionaly but i have not, sadly.
i think 2008 is a time for me to return to my mail art swapping roots instead of focusing on creating art projects all the time. this year i intend to focus more on personal swaps with buddies again.
this year i wont be so uptight and cranky and will return to enjoying small time swaps again. |

thanks for all the nice comments in my previous post, they really made me feel alot better.
jacks spots have spread. they were only around his right arm area and belly but they have spread to his legs arms and entire torso/belly. they dont appear to be too bad, they havent got weepy or crusty, they only look like bad heat rash. its itching him a little, but i havent had to use the calamine on him. he obviously not feeling well though cos hes really clingy and wingey. hes got an upset tummy and i think he has a headache the poor little mite keeps clutching at his ears. all in all though hes still a happy little boy and is enjoying the attention my sister and her daughter is giving him. my sister has made him a birthday cake for tomorrow, and hes going to be so spoilt for the day :-)
pictures will be shown when they are ready. |

| | morose | ] | jack has chickenpox. i feel awful for him cos hes itchy and cranky from it and obviously not feeling very good. i think im a lousy mum, because i didnt recognise it even though ive seen chickenpox before ive had it when a kid and ive seen both of my sisters kids catch it when they were little.
my sister is visiting and staying here for a holiday. she noticed jack had spots this morning and said its chickenpox, but i was adament it was just a heat/sweat rash. a trip to the doctor comfirmed what she said. i feel so bad that i didnt recognise it. if my sister wasnt here i wouldnt have taken jack to the doctor and jack would have been suffering from it longer without treatment. |

| food food food |
[Jul. 7th, 2007|12:19 pm] |

i have always loved to cook, i love creating something tasty that is enjoyed. i dont see the point of making something really fancy looking. you know the type of things i mean, dinner party foods. i just dont see the point of it,. i dont do dinner parties and never have done. if i was to have friends come round for dinner i would sooner cook a tasty filling dinner that doesnt take all day to fix up and only 3 minutes to eat. its just so pointless. i have a varied food intake, i like old fashioned traditonal english recipes and modern international cuisine. i watched a tv programme the other day and it was a competition to see who would become the best dinner party host. i really have no problems with dinner parties of groups of friends, occasionally! but these people seemed to center their lives around hosting dinner parties. its just a waste of living an interesting life. one of the contestants held weekly dinner parties with almost the same set of friends each time, and he admitted he always made the same starter first course, wtf? what is the point of all this? i prefer to spend my time cooking to make the food taste nice, i do like to place it on the plates so its attractive, but to spend a day or more on the meal making it look like a work of art. im sorry but that just turns me cold, i mean you cook food to eat and stay alive, it is not supposed to be something to go in an art gallery. it gets eaten ffs. ********************************************* i grew up in a household that created alot of home made pickles, jams, preserves etc. i have always prefered home made jam to shop bought stuff. i remember when i was little we used to all go for walks into the forest with bags and cartons and pick the wild grown blackberries and other berries. we used to get loads and then my nan would get the big old jam cooking pots out and spend the next few days making tons of jams and chutneys. it was fantastic. when we got older the wild supplies diminished because of the accursed buildings of new houses and such like. i really miss seeing wild edible berries and fruits growing in local wild spots. these wild spots have been destroyed by building houses there. we used to have a big shelf in out garage crammed full of all the jars of jams that were waiting to get eaten (and eated they did get, in a house of 8 people we were eager locusts) there was always a good supply. but then my nan got to old to cope with the jam making and the shelf got fairly empty. my mum and dad used to sometimes go to the pick your own fruits and veg farms and get alot but, again you dont see many of those anymore either and i think its a damn shame. my sister when she got her own family claimed the jam cooking pans. so i was so pleased when a few days ago i spotted a large jam pan in a charity shop for a good price so i grabbed it up. i have now got my first batch of chutney sitting on my "new" jam supply shelf. it feels like old times again lol. i know its only 5 and a half jars there right now, but its great. ******************************************* i have a new "pet" i got hold of a a ginger beer plant. the real one not the yeast one, this has grains similar to kefir or kombucha. its one of those living cultures, so eventually i will have to divide it and share. i havent had proper ginger beer for years. i hate the stuff you buy in the shops that they claim is ginger beer. its like lemonade. the lemonade you buy in the shops is crap and nasty and tastes nothing like lemons, i love home made lemonade.
im getting into these living cultures in a big way, i have milk kefir and water kefir, gbp, and am trying to get some kombucha also, but havent had any luck yet. my water kefir is a little bit ill though. im giving it plenty of tlc and i hope it will start to ferment the water mixture soon. i intend to have a go at making kefir cheese soon. i cant do it at the moment because my parents are staying. i dont know why this happens. i am not into being a cleaning freak, as long as the house is clean i dont believe in having the place look like it is a showroom, a house is for living in. my kitchen is the same way, i make sure it is clean and fairly tidy. but whenever my parents come here the kitchen looks like a bomb has hit it. my dad is a stubborn old bastard who will not buy or eat precut bread, even if the bread is the fresh real stuff and not that crappy common stuff. this means the there are lumps of bread sitting around and half a dozen other loaves of bread waiting for eating, and crumbs everywhere, and tons of other food stuffs he buys just dumped un top of everything on the work top. then i get grief from my mum about the mess in my kitchen. accusing me of having a filthy messy kitchen. she never listens to me and my reasonings. i just get criticised about having filthy conditions. then my taurean aggression comes roaring out and i start swearing about this or that trying to defend myself and make her see its not my mess, and then i end up being the bad guy for being dirty in my house and being nasty.
i cant fucking win, it gets to the point where i say something so nasty that my own husband gets annoyed at me. i dont know why i bother. i get treated like an idiot if i defend myself i get treated like an idiot if i stay silent.
i give up, let them stamp on me and i just end up depressed try to defend myself and i end up depressed. |

I don't know if its a sign that I am getting older and more cantankerous, or if the world is truely getting dumber and dumber. In fact things have gotten so idiotic and rediculous that I need to rant about it here. When I first heard the term "compensation culture" it was a few years ago and was very scarce over here. I am in no way anti american, but this originated from the USA (sadly). I don't know what numbnut decided to allow it first of all, but it has spiraled out of control. I was shocked to find its even happening up here in caithness http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=895942007 I am so glad that the judge threw this stupid case out of court. I don't know why people these days cant take control of their own lives without putting the blame for an injury onto somebody else. Whatever happened to peoples fucking common sense? If you get so drunk that you fall off a cliff edge, if you injure yourself in the street because you don't look where you are walking, blablablabla compensation compensation I'm blaming you guys give me compensation. I think its fucking rediculous. Can you see where this is going? In the future every open space is going to be barracaded off. what will happen to our freedom then? ........... .........It has started already, I can see. All this compensation crap has resulted in a society that by law has to have warning signs for the most rediculous of things. Safety in the working enviroment is a good thing but things have got extremely over the top. I heard of a bloke who ran his hotel single handed, but was forbidden to get a step ladder to reach the top shelf in the kitchen because you need to have a ladder certificate to pass the risk assessment check!! FFS! I can understand this sort of thing if you are employed by a company. I mean they want your labour to do a job they need done so they have to make sure their staff are safe. But I just think if you are self employed and run everything yourself, you know the way things are. Is this stupid law going to start infiltrating our private lives? Are we going to have to pass tests for hundreds of stupid health and safety certificates that prove we can cope with things that in reality should be guided by our own common sense? The latest is this... http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/health/article1957593.ece For those that don't know. Its about a british advert that was created 50 years ago. It was promoting eggs, and how nutricious they are. The punchline was "GO TO WORK ON AN EGG" There was going to be a new re-run on the advert, but it has now been banned because apparently if you eat too many eggs then they are bad for you. Excuse me? Did I hear that right? We should vary our diets? So this advert is banned because a small percentage of the nation don't know how to eat sensibly? Again this astounds me.Why cant these people take responsibility for their actions? Is common sense dying out? Its getting to the point where we are discovering warning signs on everything we purchase and most of them should be left to good old common sense. Here are some of the warnings that sound like we are a nation of total idiots. http://www.rinkworks.com/said/warnings.shtml And some of favourites (or should I say most stupid) from the list "Do not drive with sunshield in place." -- On a cardboard sunshield that keeps the sun off the dashboard. "Eating rocks may lead to broken teeth." -- On a novelty rock garden set called "Popcorn Rock." "Remember, objects in the mirror are actually behind you." -- On a motorcycle helmet-mounted rear-view mirror. "Warning: knives are sharp!" -- On the packaging of a sharpening stone. "Caution: Remove infant before folding for storage." -- On a portable stroller. "Warning: May contain nuts." -- On a package of peanuts.
I could list loads of these but all it is doing is raising my blood pressure. I want to be able to employ my common sense. But it seems as if people have become so lazy, that they don't use the old brain cells anymore. Is evolution going to stop and start to go backwards? Is the future of mankind incorrect with the theory that evolution will give us larger craniums to accomodate our larger brains, are we instead going to turn back into slow lumbering imbeciels? Im going to have to bring this to a close because I could go on and on and on, and Rikk has noticed I have an intense look on my face that he says looks like I am in pain. |
