So I want you to be honest. Does it make me a tool because I am watching and discovering Arrested Development...like...last night?

This show is beyond amazing. Almost as good as "Always Sunny".

Almost...

Creator of Witchblade and The Darkness died last night. Seriously shocking.

He was only 37.

The Strangers

Posted on 2008.05.28 at 13:19
I am:: itchy
I saw this last night a special preview screening. I had seen the trailer here and there, and I it freaked me out. Though I kept making jokes about the Scarecrow asking for a cup of sugar. It played well on one of my two main fears: home invasion. The other one being child ghosts, but this movie is realistic to the point where it could happen. No demon-possessed janitors. No chainsaw-weilding freaks of nature. Just weirdos in masks, looking for a good kill. The thing about this movie is that The Strangers was filmed in the United States beginning in 2006 and finishing in 2007. The production’s estimated budget was around $10,000,000. The release of the film was postponed…twice. The producers originally intended to release the film in Summer 2007, but due to complications, the date was pushed back to the Autumn. The release was pushed back yet again to May 30, 2008. Possibly trying to not get loss in the shuffle of torture-porn movies already in the works around that time.

It starts with a simple enough story, Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman portray Kristen McKay and James Hoyt. Supposedly this movie is inspired by true events. Well, there are ton of home invasions every year, though maybe not so dramatic. It’s cliche in the fact that it takes place in the middle of nowhere, but the thrills start pretty early in the movie. It just becomes nerve-racking to the point where you almost want Kristen and James to die because it would just be easier for them. Not to say it’s drawn out, it has an excellent pace, but you know what’s coming in the end.

The assailants are creepy enough to warrant an actual threat and not some mystery men/women in masks with weapons. They’ve obviously done this before and this won’t be the last. They kill, not for any reason, other than the fact they want to. It goes for cheap thrills at times when you hear that obvious “something’s about to happen” tone. It’s still something to go see. It’s a low-budget thrill ride that even made me jump a few times, and I’m VERY hard to scare. So check it out when it comes out this Friday.

I didn't actually get the job at Johnny's. I got shot down, nicely, in person. Though they easily could have done that over the phone.

HOWEVER, I got even better news in my inbox.

"Hey Lan,

As far as I'm concerned, you've proven a commitment to what we do with your contributions to the Shotgun site. If you're interested in getting involved with the Best Shots team for Newsarama, we'd be glad to have you. There are a few rules, etc. that I would have to explain overall, but if that's what you're interested in doing, please confirm.

Thanks!
Troy"

So, I'm a writer. Some of you know I do a little thing over on ShotgunReviews.com. Some of you know that I'm friendly with some of the people in the comics industry: Alex Ross, David Mack, Ethan van Sciver, etc. So you put those facts together and SURPRISE! I like to write comics. And no, not all of them are the spandex-clad, superhero genre (you can only write so much of that). So if you don't mind, I want to tell you about a few of my ideas, mainly to see if anybody out there would actually pick up a copy at their local shop.

Hourglass:
DOUBLE ENTENTRE!!! This story is Quantum Leap mixed with Danger Girl. It's the story of Manda McPanda and Tempest O'Mouthy. Roomates who go yard sale/flea market shopping one not-so lazy saturday afternoon. They discover this hourglass and Manda buys it, thinking it would be a quirky eggtimer. Though as it turns out, it's actually a device that enables them to go back and forward in time. After Manda activates it, both her and Tempest are transported to the 359th century and ACE (Agents of Chronoligical Enforcement) headquarters. There they meet Bub, a cyborganic owl, and Char. Both Bub and Char lead ACE from making sure nobody uses technology similar to them and messes up the past. Manda and Tempest are trained by Cougar Quinne to stop 2 rogue agents (Grego Batty and,Char's sister, Johanna).

Uncle S.A.M. the Super American Machine:
Imagine Captain America, but in an Inspector Gadget body and the book sounds like it was written by Stephen Colbert. A solider during the Great War, Arthur Washington gave his mortal body to be come a machine that is ran on pure American pride (actually unbeknownest to him, he was the precursor to the atomic bomb). Shut down after WWII, he is reactivated today since the current administration's approval rating is so low. And as the President says "Nothing's more kick-ass than robots". Though, S.A.M. is not the only "back from the dead" story. S.A.M. must now fight a Frankenstein-like Rasputin and his co-horts to protect America. He is aided by Betty Rae and Buster, the collie.

The Business (working title):
It's the story of Caleb, a man who has given up the superhero business for something for stable: a construction job. Though one day, his former girlfriend (Marissa) invites him for some Chinese and she tries to convince him to come back to the team. The government is going to try and hire the local heroes and make them legit. A salary, discreet medical treatment and several other perks. Basically turning superhero-ing into an actual job. She says it would be for the best, honestly. No more worrying about a next paycheck since you couldn't be at a "normal job" because a building fell on top of you trying to save downtown. The problem though: the team is currently lead by Marissa's father's former ward and he's kind of an ass. The team really wants Caleb to come back and lead them. It's more of a drama, since the people behind the masks are almost more interesting. I only have a couple pages of this and I'm not sure what to really do with it yet.

The Magic Word:
Similar to Harry Potter, but a little older and the main character is female. A cross between Harry Potter/Zatanna (and slight Courtney Crumrin)and "the Godfather". I actually have the first issue of this done.

I have SEVERAL other books, but mainly just dabbles and notes on paper. So, which books if any, would you enjoy?

is going to be in the Dark Knight? He's being tight-lipped about his role, though the rumor mill has already started with him playing Edward Nygma.

I'm here to squash that rumor. Though I am curious now...
