11:00 pm - win
The Penguins won.

A Democrat won a congressional seat in Mississippi. 3 of the 4 representatives are democrats now.

I downloaded a beta version of firefox and now it's harder for me to update this thing.

11:41 pm - a smart Pittsburger
Post-Gazette NOW:
Pennsylvania Rep. Mike Doyle said Clinton's pitch to superdelegates has been that she can win the popular vote, but that was undercut when Obama netted more than 200,000 popular votes in the Tuesday contests.

"The math just got very tough for her after last night," Doyle said. "I think most of us out of respect for her are content to wait a little longer. ... The absolute best way for this to end is for the candidates to end it, not the superdelegates. That's the ending we all dream about every night."
If Barack Obama were George Bush, I'd want Hillary to fight on. But now I wish she'd quit. Barack Obama isn't George Bush. I voted for her, and I like many things about her.

Actually, I don't wish she'd quit. I like how this is going. Democrats are registering so many people to the party. Obama got more votes in the primary in Indiana than Kerry did in the general election in 2004. People bring their daughters (and sons) to Clinton rallies just to prove that women can very compeetitively run for president. I like all this stuff, and with about 5 states left, go for it. But I hope Hillary drops out after the primaries are over. June-August should be used to attack John McCain, not Hillary Clinton.

McClatchy Washington Bureau | 05/03/2008 | As economy worsens, coping becomes a way of life:
WASHINGTON — When long-haul trucker Rusty Wade pulled his rig into a Missouri truck stop last week, he noticed something strange.

Of the 50 or so 18-wheelers parked in the lot, only five had their engines idling.

"That's only because of the high price of fuel," said Wade, an independent owner-operator from Brundidge, Ala. "A year ago there would only be about five that weren't running."
Well, good.

07:12 am - The poor headline writers for William Kristol
After I finished the article, I realized that it wasn't about McCain-Jindal at all. It was about Barack Obama being damaged by Rev. Wright, losing his lead to McCain, and being in trouble. But the headline writer couldn't use any of that because the headline on the main page of the website, and I bet on the front page of the paper itself, is the opposite.

Getting to read Paul Krugman right before this does not make up for it. Why should a newspaper balance information with anti-information?

07:08 am - an intent to disinform
McCain-Jindal? - New York Times:
In a New York Times/CBS News poll in late February, Obama was defeating John McCain 50 to 38. Two months later, the Times/CBS poll had McCain and Obama tied. The poll that came out yesterday showed Obama reopening a lead over McCain — but clearly over this period a vulnerability for Obama was exposed.

And when Obama’s 12-point lead over McCain was evaporating, Hillary Clinton was moving from a tie in February to a five-point advantage — and now that has widened further.
I never read William Kristol's column before because I think he has a deserved reputation for being awful. But I like reading vice president speculation enough that I clicked.

If you read those two paragraphs, you'd think McCain was still even with Obama in that poll.

The results of the poll and past polls:

Obama McCain Other (vol.) Won't vote (vol.) Depends (vol.) DK/NA
2/20-24/08* 50 38 1 2 2 7
3/28-4/2/08* 47 42 1 3 2 5
4/25-29/08 45 45 1 3 1 4
5/1-3/08* 51 40 - 4 1 3 *

So from a highest margin of 12, Obama now leads in the poll by 11. An article written on the premise that Obama has slipped that knows about the results of this poll is not, i don't know.. information. I don't know if I dare read on.

In case you were wondering how Clinton does, she beats McCain 52-41. So both Democrats have double digit leads.

I finished the column. God, I hope all Republicans are this dumb. The trouble is he quotes people who work for McCain who don't seem so stupid--they know they're going to lose.

01:38 am - hockey blog
I've been thinking about hockey for at least the last 90 minutes. I'm now sending youtube clips back and forth to sean. but he sends me devils clips from when they were good. yet he only sends me goals, but what the devils did was hold and stop scoring. that's disingenuous.

the last thing i sent him was the immaculate reception though. all pittsburgh sports are the same anyway.

i wish i were in pittsburgh so i could understand more fully the infatuation with gary roberts. i like him. i always have. But they treat him like he's chuck norris/jesus in Pittsburgh. The Jesus way is the "WWGRD?" things. Bracelets 'n 'at. What would Gary Roberts Do? Well, I think the answer is probably hit someone, but I'm not sure what they mean by it.

Such Hubbub Over a Subway Map. Decades Later, Revisions. - City Room - Metro - New York Times Blog:
With its 45- and 90-degree angles and one color per subway line, the 1972 subway map by Massimo Vignelli was divorced from the cityscape, devoid of street or neighborhood names. It was criticized because its water was not blue and its parks were not green. Paul Goldberger called it “a stunningly handsome abstraction” that “bears little relation to the city itself.”

The Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. Speaks for Himself - New York Times:
Now it turns out that Mr. Wright doesn’t hate America, he loves the sound of his own voice.
Like I can stomach that as legitimate criticism from a person who works at the New York Times.

As Clinton Seeks Gas Tax Break for Summer, Obama Says No - New York Times:
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton lined up with Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, in endorsing a plan to suspend the federal excise tax on gasoline, 18.4 cents a gallon, for the summer travel season.
I'd take back my vote if I could.

11:53 pm - class reunion?
Eric pointed out that we're 2 weeks away from when we graduated from NYU 4 years ago. Do you think it would be good to gather the people we were friends with at a bar or at a house to celebrate? And bring resumes for those of us who are expired?

11:30 pm - Thank heavens.
Eyes on Blue-Collar Voters, Obama Shifts Style - New York Times:
For the last year, advisers had been reluctant to highlight him playing basketball, thinking it could raise racial stereotypes or make him look less serious. But in Indiana, where basketball is sacrosanct, Mr. Obama scored four baskets and his team won the 20-minute game, a far better showing than his much-derided bowling outing in Pennsylvania.
I wonder if any real people actually derided the bowling.

Elizabeth Edwards is right.

I'm going to read Paul Krugman now. Then sleep, then visit Lewis in the hospital.

01:35 am - i tried
I tried to listen to songs other than Echo & the Bunnymen - The Killing Moon. I tried so hard I downloaded covers of it. But I can't get off it.

My breath smells like rye bread because after boozing at Hank's Saloon, Dan and I joined Krys and Quentin, with Eric, at their house. And they have rye bread liquor from Iceland.

08:53 am - the best Hillary article I've read in a while
Around Town: At Market Square with Hillary's base -- 'She is making other women want to be president':
"She is making other women want to be president,'' Annabel said of Mrs. Clinton.
The girl who said that is 9. The article also quotes women in their 70s. And people who brought their daughters to the rally just to prove that a woman can be president.

I got to this blog post from reading political blogs written by people my age or younger who've managed to do something with their lives.
