11:02 pm The death of a taboo - 2008 Presidential Campaign Blog - Political Intelligence - Boston.com:ST. PAUL -- One of the most enduring taboos in American politics, the airing of graphic images from the September 11 attacks in a partisan context, died today. It was nearly seven years old.
The informal prohibition, which had been occasionally threatened by political ads in recent years, was pronounced dead at approximately 7:40 CST, when a video aired before delegates at the Republican National Convention included slow-motion footage of a plane striking the World Trade Center, the towers' subsequent collapse, and smoke emerging from the Pentagon. I'm so glad I didn't see that. I make 10+ videos a night about how much Republicans are the worst, but I have no words for how I'd react to that.
I think I just quit breathing. I'm not mad. I'm not mad because I won't think abou what this says. But I'm almost there.

12:08 am - Ted Kennedy: HR God Ted Kennedy: A Liberal's Bipartisan | The American Prospect:At the same time, Kennedy knows how to be a partisan better than any other Democrat alive. When he was not cajoling Republicans into backing surprisingly progressive regulation, he was brilliantly outplaying them. He relentlessly pursued a hike in the minimum wage, until enough Republicans were shamed into supporting it. Kennedy worked hand in glove with Labor Secretary Bob Reich, over the objections of more conservative members of the Clinton administration, to pass the Family and Medical Leave Act. Did he pass everything? FMLA? COBRA? (That was in an earlier paragraph.)
He's real old. Didn't he pass Medicaid too?

11:59 pm - Yes. EzraKlein Archive | The American Prospect:But poor Warner. What a day to be struck with aphasia. Up there on that stage, before tens of thousands of eager Democrats, he forgot John McCain's name! So attendees and viewers alike heard a lot about the importance of the future, and parsed a lot of vague allusions to "outdated thinking" and politicians "stuck in the past." What they didn't hear was that John McCain is the politician of the past. While Warner spoke of the dream of an "administration that believes in science," he didn't see the need to mention that Obama is running against a politician who thinks tax cuts raise revenues. When Warner encouraged delegates to dream of a world in which "all children have access to health care," he forgot to mention that John McCain had voted against expanding S-CHIP. I'm sick of hearing all the speakers talk about Barack Obama and nothing else. I like when they speak about what it means to be a Democrat. I don't want to hear "more of the same" ever again. I did like Bob Casey calling McCain Bush's sidekick and Hillary saying it's good those two are going to the Twin Cities next month.
Brian Schweitzer was easily the best speaker of the night. Until Hillary. I quit supporting her when she was attacking Obama, who was winning and was going to win based on the numbers. But if IF had another vote, I think I'd vote for her. But maybe not. Michelle Obama's speech was so good.
When did I become a person who cares about speeches? Well, here's my live now: www.youtube.com/oreofuchi

11:32 pm - DNC Convention Oh my! I found it at the end when my brother said it was on PBS. It was so amazing. I got to see Michelle Obama and she took my breath away.
I uploaded a lot of YouTube videos of an average of 15 seconds about tonight, but I don't know how to find them or if they're good.
I love these conventions. I love being a Democrat.
I thought Claire McCaskill was pretty bad as a speaker. And she sort of set up Michelle Obama as being amazing. That was one of the best speeches I've ever seen. May she be our next president after her husband.
I can't get over it. That was so good. Why do we have Superbowls every year, but Democrats only once every 4?

02:27 pm - Go Back to Minnesota! Last night Ridgely and I took a cab back from Katie's apartment. I went into the bank to get money. I came out and paid, and we walked the 50 feet to my apartment. Some guys in a car we walked by yelled something like "Go back to Minnesota!" I was confused and kept walking. Ridgely stopped to ask them why they have to be like that. And they apparently jumped out of the car and hit him with a club! He called the police, but didn't want to deal with it, so we went to sleep.

11:15 pm - I'm not voting for him now. Congressman Pushes Staff Hard, or Out the Door - NYTimes.com:WASHINGTON — It started as a routine conference call. But at some point during the call, Representative Anthony D. Weiner became furious, convinced that his scheduler had not given him a crucial piece of information.
His scheduler, John J. Graff, who was in the next room, suddenly heard the congressman yelling at him through the wall.
Then, Mr. Graff recalled, Mr. Weiner started pounding his fists on his desk, kicked a chair and unleashed a string of expletives.
Two weeks later, Mr. Graff, a Navy veteran, became the latest of a sizable number of staff members who have resigned after an abbreviated stint with Mr. Weiner, a Democrat who represents parts of Brooklyn and Queens.
“I push people pretty hard,” said Mr. Weiner, who acknowledged getting upset at Mr. Graff. “And there are, from time to time, staffers who don’t take to it or just don’t like being pushed that hard. But I really regretted him leaving. He was a marine. I’m like, ‘How bad is this?’ It’s even worse than boot camp.”

11:19 pm - My missionary position? Netroots Nation 2009: Pittsburgh, Aug. 13-16 | Netroots Nation:To our friends in Texas and our speakers, sponsors, attendees and volunteers, we can't thank you enough for helping make Netroots Nation 2008 a huge success. We're already in planning mode for our next gathering.
On Saturday night, we announced that Netroots Nation 2009 will be held in Pittsburgh, PA, August 13-16. Registration is already open, so reserve your spot now!. Is this my call to move home? To settle down? Quit boozing to excess every day (except June 30, the last day I didn't drink)? I could be happy being a Democrat. I mean more of one. I currently donate all the money I get in free drinks at bars to the DNC, but I could probably do more. I could do DRUGS for Democrats, for instance. Or maybe just argue with every post of the RSS feed of the official McCain campaign blog, if he learns how to do that.

07:29 pm - I just paid money for music. Consumed - Mash-up Model - Rob Walker - NYTimes.com:When the Pittsburgh-based musician who calls himself Girl Talk announced that his new collection of songs, “Feed the Animals,” would be released on a pay-what-you-want download basis, it didn’t get quite the same level of attention that Radiohead got when that band did the same thing last October.

12:13 pm - This is my doing, I'm sure. Bourbon producers see amber-colored future:Heaven Hill recently spent nearly $4 million boosting capacity 50 percent at its distillery in Louisville, where it makes Evan Williams and Elijah Craig bourbons. I have to figure out how to make a pitcher of whiskey and apple juice that won't knock people over. I don't know what to dilute it with. Ice perhaps.

07:52 am - letter i'm writing to Heinz Your stay-clean cap on my bottle of ketchup is an amazing feat of engineering! I've been experiencing all your caps that said they'd do that, and each was better than its predecessor. This one though leaves NOTHING wanting. I think it's the reason that every morning when I make a sandwich for lunch, I reach for the ketchup. And I am known for my collection of condiments (mostly Heinz).
On Sunday, I showed it off to my friends.
I'm so glad you put thought into this. Current Music: The Earls - Remember Then

11:35 pm - why i'm here Saved by the Bell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:The following schools are where the gang decides to go to college.
* Zack - Yale University * Slater - University of Iowa (on a wrestling scholarship) * Screech - University of California, Berkeley o Also accepted to Clemson, Duke, USC, Princeton, Emerson, but not to an all-women's school, his first choice * Jessie - Columbia University o Rejected from Harvard, Yale * Lisa - Fashion Institute of Technology * Kelly - An unnamed California community college. In one promotional photograph, she is seen wearing a CSUN sweater (i.e., Cal State Northridge) * Tori - Never specified on the show, but in the above-mentioned promotional photograph, she is seen wearing a University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign sweater. I think it's very very likely that I wanted to go to college in New York because Jesse Spano wanted to go to Columbia.

09:46 pm - steak tartare I am pretty bad at cooking steak. Maybe because I only buy very cheap steak. And I do that because I never cook it well. But today was different, because I didn't cook it. I sliced it up and I ate it. Not all of it. I cooked some. It wasn't as good as my raw steak.
Let's see if I live.
I also made spinach with buttermilk in it.

11:41 pm - a smart Pittsburger Post-Gazette NOW:Pennsylvania Rep. Mike Doyle said Clinton's pitch to superdelegates has been that she can win the popular vote, but that was undercut when Obama netted more than 200,000 popular votes in the Tuesday contests.
"The math just got very tough for her after last night," Doyle said. "I think most of us out of respect for her are content to wait a little longer. ... The absolute best way for this to end is for the candidates to end it, not the superdelegates. That's the ending we all dream about every night." If Barack Obama were George Bush, I'd want Hillary to fight on. But now I wish she'd quit. Barack Obama isn't George Bush. I voted for her, and I like many things about her.
Actually, I don't wish she'd quit. I like how this is going. Democrats are registering so many people to the party. Obama got more votes in the primary in Indiana than Kerry did in the general election in 2004. People bring their daughters (and sons) to Clinton rallies just to prove that women can very compeetitively run for president. I like all this stuff, and with about 5 states left, go for it. But I hope Hillary drops out after the primaries are over. June-August should be used to attack John McCain, not Hillary Clinton.
