Friends Only - Topped Post

Well sort of. This journal is about half friends only, and half not. I real often sometimes babble about Doctor Who and some of those comments are not friends only.
comment and i will most likely add you, if you're not sure here is a post which is more about me than fandom.

My layout was made by [info]refuted
My header was made by me. My FO banner was made by me.

I loved Ophelia. 40,000 brothers with all their quantity of love could not make up my sum.
WHICH IS WHY I WENT TO THE END OF THE UNIVERSE & ERASED MY MEMORY THEN CAME BACK FUCKED THE DOCTOR & DESTROYED EARTH BEFORE A DEUS EXMACHINA OF ULTIMATE PROPORTIONS KILLED ME & MY DESTRUCTION (my death is ambiguous, and I might be a chick next time played by the awesomeness of Alexandra Moen except I am controlled by the gay Rusty and not a man who will exploit me sexually so all of the gay girls can get their rocks off too as they wade through the male slash)

Okay so I am sitting around not doing my response journals for Hamlet when in boredom I look around in the non Hamlety parts of that terrible edition with the two poeople of differeing genders on the cover that I have finally covered with printouts of Olivier as Hamlet, because um... better, and there is a list of varying film adaptations of Hamlet. There are the obvious ones Olivier, a recording of Burton's, Mel Gibson's, Branagh's, Hawke's but in between these there are crazy ones.

First crazy has Marianne Faithfull as Ophelia, Marianne fucking Faithfull, who is awesome and plays Ophelia, I mean WTF I was not expecting that. And in that same production Anthony Hopkins plays Claudius. Then there is a production in which they apparently take the idea of Doubles to the extreme because the guy who plays Hamlet plays both Hamlet Sr. and Jr. and then Hellen Mirren plays both Gertrude and Ophelia. But that is just an interepertation the real awesomeness that I must fucking get my hands on if I have to ransack the BBC personally is coming.

So in 1980 the BBC ets a hankerng for shakespeare I guess because they do another Hamlet. The title role is given to Derek Jacobi (for those otherwise unversed, The Master before he became John Simm, aka Yana, or also Claudius in I, Claudius -which also has Patrick Stewart btw... and I am travelling into my enemy of parenthetical remarks in which I may rant and go mad in with six degrees. I'll stop now maybe?-), so you have Derek Jacobi as Hamlet, then you have Patrick Stewart cast as Claudius. But the real madness awaits, and it comes...
...
...
now LALLA WARD PLAYS OPHELIA!!!!!!! and ! to express both glee and little bit of shock. Lalla fucking Ward plays Ophelia to Derek Jacobi's Hamlet with Patrick Stewart playing Claudius. Explain to me how this is not in anyway awesomeness, I mean BBC wobbly sets be damned, I want this fucking now goddamit.

...And now I understand where that cover art for that fanmix this girl made for Master/Romana comes from.

I also need to write a girl!Master/Romana fic right fucking now, and maybe change my layout to the a Romana/Master one, but Sapphire & Steel, ah the troubles one has while temporizing.

Did you ever expect The Killers & Jane Austen To Exist In The Same Post?
I went into J&R to buy a Stars CD and somehow came out with all three Killers CDs. I was there looking for "The Night After The War" but they only had "Heart" and "Set Yourself On Fire" both of which I have. So I looked around, and even though I have all of "Hot Fuss" downloaded, I don't actually have the CD so I decided to buy that, and I really love the sound of Read My Mind so I decided to grab "Sam's Town" as well. That was going to be it, but I looked at "Sawdust" and the opening song, Tranquilize, features Lou Reed, so obviously I had to get that, 'cause am LOU REED! Actually I am listening to "Sawdust" right now and it is an excellent album, it isn't as in your face rock as "Hot Fuss" is, I mean there are some definite country roots in there, which is awesome, but at the same time the beat is much stronger, which I love. So yeah. </random>

*looks and does not find mark bolan icon... cries*

Oh I also saw the Beeb's new Sense & Sensibility, I really liked it. Of course it's one of my least favourite of her her books so my expectations are pretty low. Also I have found some communities today that make me & my obsessions are completely fucking normal.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang & British Actors on American TV
Okay, so I saw Torchwood. It was good, you know it was okay.
...OH FUCK IT FLAIL FLAIL FLAIL.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY GOD! It made me so insanely fucking happy. )

So now I am watching the Sarah Connor Chronicles. LENA HEADEY OMG, I love her, so that makes me happy especially because there is also Summer Glau so you know together, JOY! Together they are awesome, yay!

Which actually brings me to something else. What is up with the British actors on American TV this season. First you have Sophia Myles on Moonlight (spit on this show because has anyone heard of Angel or perhaps Forever Knight), Bionic Woman is english, I only know this because she was in NAME you know that movie about that student who becomes an insomniac who can stop time and he sketches her, it is more indy-artsy then sci-fi though. Of course Hugh Laurie has been on our screens as an American for the past four years, now we have Lena Headey (Imagine Me & You also she played what's her name the queen in 300, and I loved her in The Parole Officer with Steve Coogan), and on ABC you of course have Anna Friel in Pushing Daisies, and Frances O'Connor with in Cashmere Mafia (which I am liking, shut up it has lesbians, Miranda Otto, Lucy Liu, and aforementioned Frances O'Connor), and Miranda Otto who is Australian but the point is how are these people who do films and like proper television doing American television, and some of it, crap American television.

Also I really fucking miss Dirty Sexy Money. :(

Anyway, toodlepip for now. And dammit I just deleted most of my TW icons, now I have to get them back.

And then you frakked...
Oh my fucking god, I am finally catching up with season 3 of Veronica Mars and it is fucking filled with BSG referneces it is so fucking funny. I mean you have one character who says frak because he refuses to say fuck, and now there is this one episoe that has managed to bring in Six jokes, cylon raiders, and too many uses of the word frak for it to be normal.

And now they are watching Sense and Sensibiliy, OMG, I fucking love the nerdiness.

Okay, back to watching the show.

Well, the rest of my friend's list is doing it...
Nicked from [info]calapine first.

These are the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing's users (as of today). As usual, bold what you have read, italicize those you started but couldn't finish, and strike through what you couldn't stand. Add an asterisk to those you've read more than once. Underline those on your to-read list.

Oh my god, Douglas Adams stole from himself, or how Chronotis is a slut
OKAY THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.

A few weeks ago I finished The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul the second in a series by Douglas Adams, I did not realise this was the second in a series at the time however and did not read the first in the series. Well today I set out to correct this by buying Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. I was only on the fifteenth page and enraptured by Adams' eccentric and electric prose when I was finally given the name of a short, whose age is "on the older side of completely indeterminate," professor at the fictional St. Cedds College of the very real Cambridge University. Imagine my surprise (and how I started from Starbucks to come and report this momentous news to us all, almost leaving my lovely crispy marshmallow square and half of my grande iced latte) when his name was presented as, Professor Urban Chronotis, a professor of Chronology. And the description of his memory being, "a memory that he himself had once compared to the Queen Alexandria Birdwing Butterfly, in that it was colourful, flitted prettily hither and thither, and was now, alas, almost completely extinct." Thus, a memory much like... a sieve. (Which funnily enough is how my mum described her memory today and nearly sent me into a fit of giggles, which most likely led her to believe all of my sanity was slowly trickling out a sieve.

More Series 3 of Doctor Who luffing and Questions
Okay I have to make another post about The Shakespeare Code as I forgot 3 of my favourite things.
1) THEY MENTIONED THE ETERNALS. You know the guys from Enlightenment one had a wicked crush on Tegan and I know I know him from somewhere. So like how cool, old skool references FTW, muwhahahaha.

2) The Shakespeare being gay joke and the Doctor's comment, '57 Academics just punched the air' or something to that point. I was laughing for minutes, my mum thought I'd gone mad.

3) I think I had a different one, but I can't remember so here goes this one. Shakespeare stealing his own things from the Doctor. ROFL. Also funny was the Elizabeth I thing, where she tried to attack him, and Shakespeare was like ROFL.

Oh yes, the Trailer for them being in New New York. I only have one question. If, it's supposed to be New New York, which is theoretically in New America, than why is everyone English? Unless of course New English (the language) is as different from our English as our English is to old English, and therefore the TARDIS is translating and thus one, being a native of England, would expect English voices (which causes a little problem for the Peri and Mel era, you know a part from the other thousand). Wouldn't Martha expect American accents though, and thus even in this New Enlish, it would be translated with an American accent. Or have I simply gone officially mad trying to work out logic in Doctor Who.

Again, I really need to upload Martha icons.

A Short Bitch Post
Stephen Colbert is a guest star in Law and Order: CI (with Goren not Logan). It is so fucking trippy.

Anyway I got myself a nice pint of Godfather in which I was going to eat half of while watching Homicide: Life On The Streets, so at 6 I sat down to watch perhaps one of my most favourite shows. Then I turned on the TV and I realised, fucking sleuth channel changes it's time recently to 5 NOT 6. I am upset.

I have just been traumatised. In a good way. Ian was... well first he was dancing... but it was to... to... to the Beatles. I have been made d-e-d. And then Vicki telling Babs and Ian the Beatles played classical music, in the 60's it must have killed everyone. Ian is very pretty though. God, I need first Doctor icons.

The Third Doctor
I just saw Invasion of the Dinosaurs for the first time. First of all: I love Yates and I love Benton, UNIT FTW (I like me acronyms).
Secondly: I love how Sarah Jane gets around in this arc. I need a Sarah Jane/Yates fic now. ("I'll go and chat up that nice Captain Yates." “Yes I’m sure he’d enjoy that.”) Also though, the Brigadier's jokes about her and the General. And Benton/Sarah Jane, oh dear. She is just so perfect, especially with her leather jacket. I love Benton's face when he is telling the Doctor that Sarah Jane went out "to play" (seriously so many things you could take as double entendres in this serial). The Brigadier and the Doctor in the closet/lift, as well. At least they didn't show them coming out of it together. Now for some more serious, slightly less squee filled notes. 30+ year old spoiler warnings apply.

Don't just stand there Benton put yourself under arrest. )
