WHICH IS WHY I WENT TO THE END OF THE UNIVERSE & ERASED MY MEMORY THEN CAME BACK FUCKED THE DOCTOR & DESTROYED EARTH BEFORE A DEUS EXMACHINA OF ULTIMATE PROPORTIONS KILLED ME & MY DESTRUCTION (my death is ambiguous, and I might be a chick next time played by the awesomeness of Alexandra Moen except I am controlled by the gay Rusty and not a man who will exploit me sexually so all of the gay girls can get their rocks off too as they wade through the male slash)Okay so I am sitting around not doing my response journals for
Hamlet when in boredom I look around in the non
Hamlety parts of that terrible edition with the two poeople of differeing genders on the cover that I have finally covered with printouts of Olivier as Hamlet, because um... better, and there is a list of varying film adaptations of
Hamlet. There are the obvious ones Olivier, a recording of Burton's, Mel Gibson's, Branagh's, Hawke's but in between these there are crazy ones.
First crazy has
Marianne Faithfull as Ophelia, Marianne fucking Faithfull, who is awesome and plays Ophelia, I mean WTF I was not expecting that. And in that same production Anthony Hopkins plays Claudius. Then there is a production in which they apparently take the idea of Doubles to the extreme because the guy who plays Hamlet plays both Hamlet Sr. and Jr. and then Hellen Mirren plays both Gertrude and Ophelia. But that is just an interepertation the real awesomeness that I must fucking get my hands on if I have to ransack the BBC personally is coming.
So in 1980 the BBC ets a hankerng for shakespeare I guess because they do another
Hamlet. The title role is given to Derek Jacobi (for those otherwise unversed, The Master before he became John Simm, aka Yana, or also Claudius in
I, Claudius -which also has Patrick Stewart btw... and I am travelling into my enemy of parenthetical remarks in which I may rant and go mad in with six degrees. I'll stop now maybe?-), so you have Derek Jacobi as Hamlet, then you have Patrick Stewart cast as Claudius. But the real madness awaits, and it comes...
...
...
now LALLA WARD PLAYS OPHELIA!!!!!!! and ! to express both glee and little bit of shock. Lalla fucking Ward plays Ophelia to Derek Jacobi's Hamlet with Patrick Stewart playing Claudius. Explain to me how this is not in anyway awesomeness, I mean BBC wobbly sets be damned, I want this fucking now goddamit.
...And now I understand where that cover art for that fanmix this girl made for Master/Romana comes from.
I also need to write a girl!Master/Romana fic right fucking now, and maybe change my layout to the a Romana/Master one, but Sapphire & Steel, ah the troubles one has while temporizing.
