Just to be subversive, I added an inconspicuous link from my filksongs page to your entry. :) I would have thought a skimper is one who skimps. My understanding of "skimper" would be Someone who skimps - Someone who makes do with less than the necessary amount of something. A costuming example: Making an Elizabethan gown with skirts that are far too narrow because there was not enough of their chosen fabric, so they had to skimp a bit and make do with less. "Skimp" and "skimping" were quite common terms when was growing up. Teddy
since your blog is syndicated, everyone who has you as a friend on LJ has a link in their friends page everytime yu make a post. That ads up to a lot of links. Heh. A "skimper", one who skimps, is a person who cuts quantity and quality to economize. He sells you shoddy goods in order to make more profit. To me, it's got a negative tone. A "scrimper", on the other hand, is one who is frugal. Like in the Beatle's When I'm Sixty-Four: "we shall scrimp and save". It has a virtuous, positive connotation. The skimper.com site looks like a shopping site that deals in coupons and other discounts. I suspect they meant to call it Scrimper.com. |
