I was reading someone's diary
here and realized it's true that when some historical event happens in the world, people remember what s/he was doing at the moment.
When a big earthquack in Japan happened (I was a sr high student), it was the day my cousin was gonna go back to the States. He left early in the morning to catch a flight from Tokyo Airport, and fortunately for him, the earthquack didn't affect him. I was still sleeping when the thing happened, and thought "oh, the ground's shaking..." but went back to sleep. When I fully woke up, I turned on the TV and learned it was a huge earthquack. I remember one of my church members told me that his son who lived in the middle of where the earthquack happened (M8 or so) called her, but she was all panicking in Nagoya (M3 or so), and hanged up the phone saying she's gonna call him back later. Of course, she couldn't contact him after while because everyone's trying to see their friends and families are safe. She was praying for God that her son would be alive, and knowing that he called right after the earthquack made her at ease a little. I also remember one of my high school teacher's daughter's family lived in Kobe. She said she couldn't find the whereabouts of her daughter's family even several days later. She cried so much that she's dehydrated and had a hard time giving us a lecture... She asked for a candy so that at least she can generate some saliva. I think it turned out that her daughter's family passed away because of the earthquack...
When Sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway happened, I was in my church's retreat for youth. The meeting place was at church, and when I got to church, everyone was watching the TV for the number of the victims kept increasing.
When 911 happened, I was still sleeping, and the first thing I did in the morning was get on Yahoo! chat, Taiwan room. (Miss that place!) Someone asked me if I was okay, and told me to turn on TV. It was really shocking. I thought it was a movie or something. It was my second day of the new work, and when I get to the work, the security told me (and other employees) to go home. I went to Albertson's, nearby supermarket, to buy bunch of water and canned food (^^; ). I remember seeing my classmate from college and it was surprising. Then I went to ex-gf's house and watched some more updates on TV. At that night, I called my cousin to see if she knew about the news, and ended up she didn't know since she doesn't read news nor watch TV. ... Yeah, she's weird like that... -__-;
Kinda scary how I can still remember those things, especially that earthquack happened more than 10 years ago...
