Well, school is around the corner (damnit, it starts tomorrow!) and I'm just getting my shit together for that.  The important stuff, you know, like charging up my iPod so that it doesn't run out of juice.  Heaven forbid I should walk through that school without some sort of musical distraction!

There might be a strike, which will add to the air of excitement around the school.

I'll also be working at the Library and the Bombay while going to school.  I don't know what this will do to my schedule (as my school schedule ALONE nearly killed me last year) but, I can't go for 8 months without any income.  I still need to pay rent and buy food and clothes and whatnot.  I got by last Christmas without buying anybody anything, and I felt utterly terrible for it.  So, this year I'll endeavour do to better.  (Ohh, speaking of that, I'm looking forward to doing another card exchange for Christmas this year!  Lots of fun times!)


I cleared out the bar fridge downstairs in my house.  I've been eyeing some cans of pop that have been in there for... the past 10 years at least.  I know to date the tins around this time period because of the presence of a diet pepsi tin which features artwork from the late 80s.



Now, this tin does not rival the Cheese Whiz Light which has been in my cupboard for uncounted years.  (I only know it expired in December 1997, but don't know when we acquired it before that, or how long the shelf life is for such products between production date and expiry date.)  However, these tins are still exceptional for their age.

Months ago I wrote here, complaining of how I was thirsty and my mother convinced me to OPEN one of the old cans and try it to see if it's still good.  Of course, it was FLAT.
The other day, the fridge aciddentally defrosted, so I was helping my dad move stuff from the inside.  I re-discovered the remaining old tins, and suggested we throw them out since they're so old.  He suggested we open them and try them, in case they're still good.  (I realize that it is this combined mentality of both my parents, combined with my odd need to see "just how long can we keep this cheese whiz?!" that allows tins to remain in our fridge for such a long time.)

Well, I cracked open one of the Dr. Pepper tins, and it's actually still okay.  Still fizzy, but there is an underlying flavour of flatness that I can't quite pinpoint, but it's still the DR. and, well, I can't go against Dr.'s orders! :P
(I won't complain if this shit makes me sick.)

Umm... yeah.  So, how has everyone's summers been?  Do anything neat and/or exciting?

After finishing my recent Tekken project which spent much time in Yakushima, I've developed an insane love for this island. I'd like to go. I'd like other people to know of this place's awesomeness factor.

I used many reference sources to better learn about the island and write about it. I wanted to post links to these resources here, and any pictures or whatever I used that may be of interest to others. This post will be under constant revision as I'm wont to make this more organized as I add material.

Oh, and to make this post a bit meatier, I just learned that the libraries in Minnesota give out free passes to the Minnesota Zoo!  How do I know this?  Well, we got a call at the library today by a woman who was very perturbed when we couldn't immediately give her passes to the MN zoo. 
My co-worker on reception was trying to figure out wtf this lady was talking about.  "Maybe she means the Metropolitan Toronto Zoo?" (this would explain why she said something that began with an 'M')  "Do you mean pass or class?" (maybe there are classes somewhere about the zoo??)  We transfered her to the department in the library that knows about community events because we couldn't help her.  She was transferred back and kinda miffed that we'd sent her to the "wrong department".

Eventually she got fed up and was getting fed up.  "What state are you in?" she asks.

Bingo.

"We're in Newmarket... Ontario... Canada..."

"Oh... well, nevermind then.  Goodbye!"

This isn't the first phonecall we've gotten from the states asking us stuff about Newmarket.  Someone called to inform us that the library map was wrong on our website.  I think there was some kefuffle with that as well before they realized that they'd called the wrong country.

Try googling Newmarket.  The Ontario verson shows up first.  Then there's New Hampshire... I know there's a New Market, MN somewhere, but it comes up WAY late on the google search.

Fun times.  We want to write a book for interesting phone calls.

I've actually been looking forward to going back to school.  It'll put some rigid structure into my life that has been woefully lacking this summer.  (Shift work will do that to you.)

I'm also realizing that part of my angsty down moods this summer probably has something to do with me picking up on the high-stress vibes going around my house.  I hate it when people are stressed and try to hide it from me.  It leaves me wondering why the FUCK I feel so damn lousy!
It was the same way when my dad was sick when I was younger and they tried to sheild me from the facts.  Sure, nobody wants their 6 year old to know the nasty shit that's happening, but it doesn't mean they don't know something's up.

I'm rambling, sorry.  I guess I have shit to say and this is the first time I've been able to sit down and say it.

I've also been giggling like a madwoman whenever I recall my favourite commercial.  ( (Possibly of all time, we'll see... I'll tell you at the end of time XD) )

I caught the Matrix 2 the other day, while nursing Mike back to health.  (He got a COLD, somehow, and since I love taking care of him while he's sick (don't ask) I managed to catch this.)  It renewed my interest in the TWINS (who are fucking hot and I'm sad that they weren't in the 3rd movie, or that there isn't much more fanwork for them out there).
The movie also gave me the opportunity to explain something to Mike, that you all who have seen the movie may be able to agree with me on.  In the 2nd movie there is a scene where Morpheus and the Keymaker are on top of a transport truck on the freeway.
The transport truck is going along at a good clip, and the driver has been taken over by an agent.  Antoher transport truck, now under the control of another agent, has turned around on the freeway and the two trucks are driving towards each other at a good clip.
There is a building anticipation as they are flying at each other, Morpheus says, "Neo, if you're out there, I could really use you..." and then the trucks crash and everything goes to slow motion.  We see the trailer's rippling and then exploding in a wave as the impact finally reaches them.  Morpheus and the keymaker are thrown into the air, flying high above the collision, just as the trucks explode, engulfing the air in flames and Neo flies in at the last second.  Grabs the two of them and lifts them into the air, spinning as he goes to gain as much lift as he can before the explosion follows them high into the air.

Link, the operator in the ship outside the matrix, jumps up with his arms in the air and screams. YES!

I do the same thing.  EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

The way that scene is played out, the way it builds up and everything about it from the camera angles to the music to the anxiety and build-up of telling us about how dangerous the freeway is... it builds up my excitement levels to the right level where I feel chills watching it every single time.

I found a clip of it on youtube.  The scene I'm talking about starts around 7:00 and goes to the end, but you may wish to watch the whole thing to get the buildup I'm talking about.

I have a serious love for the number eight.  I took Mike out to a Japanese restaurant to celebrate.  I splurged and bought a plate of 8 spider rolls.

EDIT:  I realized that I haven't explained here WHAT a doujinshi is!  Basically, a doujinshi is a fan-made comic/manga based off an official anime, game or manga.  They are pretty much like fanficton or fan art, only they are in comic/manga format.

In essence, I'm asking everyone if they'd be interested in reading/helping create a comic based off of Unlikely Angel.

I just wanted to post because I know I have some friends that I've been wanting to chat with and correspond, and I've been MIA for the past few... days (I wanna say week, but can't remember that far back.)

Ugh, every minute has been spent on work until the wee hours of the morning.  I wanted to say that I'm going to be MIA until Friday when I (supposedly) will have a day off.

Lol, I know I'm going down to work with Ivan on that day, but until I get roped into going, I'll leave that day blank in my agenda and lie to myself about having the day off.

In other news: the blackberry bush in my backyard is FULL of berries.  I know this because my dad has been talking about how many berries are back there, and he even picked a huge bowl full of them.  They are tasty on ice cream.

OH YES!!  I was updating the drive in website tonight, and discovered that we're getting a movie called Babylon A.D..  I decided to look it up (I hadn't heard of it) and... holy shit!

It used to be that I was up to speed on all the latest fandoms.  I'd recommend them to friends or whatever, since I always had my ear to the ground.

Now it feels like I'm falling behind.  I don't know shit about this Hitman Reborn series (I tried watching the first couple of eps, but that fucking BABY irritated the snot out of me!  I mean, how great can it be if a fucking baby is the protagonist?  Death Note just irrtates me (that's fine, it's not my type of series, anyways) and I've been putting off Naruto for what feels like an eternity.)

The thing is, I don't have time to watch all the latest animes.  I picked Bleach over Naruto (didn't have time to watch them both) and stuck with Saiyuki over whatever else is out there.  Samurai Champloo owns the fucking internet for it's awesomeness.  It bumped Trigun out of top place, and Mugen and Jin's fight with Sara helped to do that.

Oh well, I guess I can be happy with Kenshin and SamCham and even Onimusha.  I *like* them anyways, no sense in trying to watch other shows just for having something to talk about.  (I guess I just hate thinking I'm missing something that's potentially good; if so many people like it, then maybe I should give it a shot?  Maybe??)

Umm... I work at the library tomorrow, then at the drive in in the evening.  I worked at the DI tonight, and it wasn't as busy as I thought it would be.  (Not with all the Batman stuff going on.  A woman came into the snackbar tonight with what looked like a blanket over her shoulders, but it was, in fact, a polar-fleece BAT CAPE with the yellow logo on the back!  (Talk about awesome.) 

I just spent the past 46 minutes watching the most interesting documentary.  I tried to turn away, saying that I have other stuff that must be done, but it was so interesting...



It covers the history of videogames and how ATARI first invented pong, then goes on to the evolution of videogames, Donkey Kong and the shit that had to be done to get Tetris out of Russia to be packaged with the GameBoy.

I want to clean my closet, or even get my sewing room in order so I can sew something for myself. I haven't done that in ages, and it'd be fun to use that black/red checkered material I bought so long ago from the ends bin in the fabric store.

Umm, I saw Hellboy and Wanted tonight with Mike and Ian at the drive in. That was fun (esp. since they let us in for freeee! Working there has its advantages!)

Hellboy - Super gay moments ahoy! Also, ending = WTF?!! Also, OMG THE SHIDE GUY WAS FUCKING HOT!

Wanted - Kicks the shit outta the Matrix! Apart from some minor quibbles over the storytelling, this is awesomesauce!

I've also been going through my flist, weeding out some journals that a) I suspect of being abandoned, or b) communication seems to have died off between me and the owner of the journal (it happens as we go along in life)

If you were cut, and still wanted to keep in touch with me, just let me know. I've been super-busy lately and haven't had time to maintain my friendships as I'd have liked. I understand if others have had shit hitting the fan in their own lives as well and things are so busy.

I should have known that, when I agreed to work with Ivan again, that I'd be working WAY too much and pulling lots of all-nighters to get the work done.

I worked from 11pm - 6:30 am this morning. I'm now going to grab some breakfast and drive to the shop and get shit ready there. Then it's off to the library this evening.

And yet I still have time to write about this in LJ.

Damn you, LJ, for being a place for me to randomly write shit about my life.


On the plus side, this is a great excuse for me to treat myself to an energy drink. (I'll also persuade Ivan to buy me some pizza from that restaurant with the stone oven. FOOD! I can be convinced to do much with promises of foods for my tummy.)

After work I went out for a lovely run today... it was lovely. Then I came home and worked for about 6 hours more. Then I found this video and temporarily forgot everything while I loled.


Listening to this kid scream nearly decalcifies my spinal column. (Yeah, I'm ripping on Bill Cosby, so what!)


There is also some homemade strawberry jelly in the kitchen. It is *very* tasty.

I went for a run today. It was beautiful and while I probably shouldn't have done this at 1:30 pm when the sun was super-hot, I went anyway and had a great time.

Then I came home and ate a ton of home-made cookies.

At first I said I'd only eat two, but then I got hungry and ate two more. Then one more.

Then my mom came downstairs and asked if I wanted the last two.

... what? I couldn't say NO!

I have this feeling that my run, while thoroughly enjoyable, won't really do anything to offset the shit I've eaten.


In other news, I can't help but feel that there is *something* missing from LJ's tag system. It seems all well and cool, but there's still something missing that I can't quite put my finger on.
