Not coming up with a snazzy title or a coherent thought at the moment, and I'll explain why later.

But I don't want the day to go unmarked without birthday wishes to [info]krings_keep and welcomes to new Gentle Reader [info]paleologa.

I know you folks are getting tired of just seeing DRACULA entries and birthday wishes, as the folks who've unfriended me recently can attest.

There's a lot more to talk about in my life, but now's not the best time for writing it down. Need some real food and some fresh air.

Log of the Demeter

24 July. – There seems some doom over this ship. Already a hand short, and entering the Bay of Biscay with wild weather ahead, and yet last night another man lost - disappeared. Like the first, he came off his watch and was not seen again. Men all in a panic of fear; sent a round robin, asking to have double watch, as they fear to be alone. Mate violent. Fear there will be some trouble, as either he or the men will do some violence.

Still in radio silence mode for the most part, but wanted to note a few things...

* Happy birthday to my sister [info]oceancat11.

* Happy birthday to [info]dunkelza.

* New post at [info]mikescomics, which accounts for some of my radio silence. Since I can't be at Nerd Prom [also known as SDCC, San Diego Comic Con, or Comic-Con International], we're bringing Nerd Prom to us.

Back to work now.

Log of the Demeter

22 July. – Rough weather last three days, and all hands busy with sails - no time to be frightened. Men seem to have forgotten their dread. Mate cheerful again, and all on good terms. Praised men for work in bad weather. Passed Gibraltar and out through Straits. All well.

The Sensors Say: frustrated

Not a global disaster... not life-threatening. But enough to make me bitter and growly.

My hard drive finally and really crashed yesterday, after being taken out and moved into a different computer when a motherboard had burnt out.

There is a hard drive on this computer, so the computer is still working enough to get me to the Internet.

But *my* hard drive is gone, with all my work files for the last four years, plus all my creative files.

This does affect DRACULA, and the Haunted Summer. I will be borrowing from the previous communities that have done this, rather than from my own saved Word files.

Not happy. Hoping data recovery is possible.

New posts at [info]mikescomics, including a round-up of recently received items and our latest special buy.

I spent most of this weekend updating the code on the Doctor Who Toys page at http://www.mikescomics.com, and making sure that upcoming assortments have the proper pictures attached, like the NuWho Series 4 toys and the Classic Who releases.

I still have more to go on adding pictures for items old and new, but it looks pretty good, if I do say so myself. I hope to have a block of time to devote to other pages on the site, like my shamefully neglected Children's Books page.

Which reminds me... now that it's been confirmed, I can announce that I'll not only be vending at 3Pi-Con, but moderating a panel on young adult fiction there as well. C'mon out to Springfield, MA and say hello in August.

I'll probably repeat these as Twitters, since most are work-related, but they make for a nice bullet-y post in the meantime. My posting creativity well has been a bit dry.

* Note to self... do NOT open Fark's Caturday if you have any other IE windows open. It will crash out whatever you are doing. However, DO open Fark's Caturday when kind folks like [info]mariness and [info]locomotive_poe send you links to Caturday to cheer you up. Remember that cheering up is a part of work productivity, too.

* Realization of the day... coding in HTML and tinkering in Photoshop does not automatically make me grumpy. If left uninterrupted, I can actually code and tinker without any grumpiness whatsoever... the most extreme reaction I get when uninterrupted is a "Hmmmmmm.... that didn't work".

* We have a new household expression for when someone eats the last piece of pudding pie.... "Throwing oneself on the chocolate grenade".

* [info]gnomi's Exterminiknit Dalek plus [info]paulpogue's & [info]borgkat's baby "Aahz" equals A Combination Made Of Win. Photos may be forthcoming if I get parental permission.

* I keep feeling cats rubbing around my ankles, in a house with no cats present. I wonder if this is some strange new symptom of perimenopause, related to formication. [And yes, I spelled it right.... get your minds out of the gutter, Gentle Readers, and Google it.]
