This is officially on my "next cat item purchase" list. I recently bought a Drinkwell pet fountain on Amazon for my water-obsessed monster Tobey, and this perch will just have to be next.

Just got back from my annual trip to California (I'm now calling it annual because I have been to the bay area once a year the past 4 years). Fun, though very busy trip: seeing friends, SF site-seeing & shopping, snowboarding in Lake Tahoe, gambling, wine tasting in Napa, Seabound at DNA Lounge, coffee in Berkley.. and a whole lot of eating, drinking & fun in-between :)
Ah, I love the bay area. Now I am back in Boston, where we are still seeing winter temperatures and there is yet ANY green to be seen on trees and grass... It's April, for the love of chlorophyll!! Yes, I love winter, but when April hits, I'm done liking it.

So apparently Jet Blue doesn't offer pillows & blankets on some of their red eye flights anymore. I found a lot of complaints on forums online about this and decided to file a complaint with Jet Blue directly, letting them know that I was extremely uncomfortable and very cold (even though my coat was draped over me) on the red eye flight from Oakland to Boston. Maybe it would have been warmer away from the window (which felt drafty), but I really felt frozen when I arrived. Is it a matter of cutting costs? Maybe they could find ways that would not greatly impact their client's comfort. Let's see what they have to say. I don't know why I forgot my own neck-pillow-thingie, but a simple pillow and blanket would have gone a long way. Oh, and no, I don't ever ever ever wear flip-flops, shorts/skirts & tank tops like some other crazy people do when they fly. Even on a day flight (when not completely tired & exhausted) I'd freeze to death.

Subject:imac
Time:08:48 pm
I spent an hour at the Apple Store yesterday. I think I'm going to buy a 2.4 GHz 24-inch imac. Yikes? My annoying Compaq laptop is almost 4yrs old.. it's time to upgrade. Maybe I should be saving my tax return, but perhaps this will also contribute to stimulating the economy or whatnot. I'd also get a USB TV tuner dongle, which means the imac would also replace my crappy old ~20" TV.

What's the latest on those economic stimulus checks by the way... the other day, I was just reading about msnbc's tips on how to spend an economic stimulus check:

1. Start that emergency fund, pronto.
2. Wrestle your bills to the ground.
3. Pay down credit-card debt.
4. Invest in the future.
5. Invest in your potential.
6. Don’t let your house sink you.
7. Give your ride a little TLC.
8. If you’re going to buy something, make it worthwhile.
9. Do your part to combat poverty.
10. Recharge your batteries. get one of those economic stimulus checks.

The top six are good, everyday, common-sense financial steps we should all be taking anyway, so there's no arguing with them. The rest round out the "don't blow it on just anything but still spend it" sort of thinking. And now, a rebuttal to these suggestions from the federal government. Here's what they want you to do with your check: spend it. On anything, though preferably, something American made....

...so looking at this list, an imac could be #8 maybe? :) Hey, at least it's on the list.. and it's American made, I suppose.

All I need to do is make the final decision.

Any suggestions for/against buying an imac?

It's funny, my mom and I both type very fast.. it's crazy how often we get asked by coworkers how fast we type. I took this test a few times and the results were always similar.
Having taken multiple typing classes back in 7th & 8th grade definitely helped.

1 month after my ipod decided to die (but yes i was lucky to have an extended warranty from best buy and got the "defect" battery replaced by apple at no additional cost within 3 weeks), my canon S410 decides to beep and throw an E18 error at me with no luck at starting anymore. tricks i found online didn't work. I bought it 3.5 yrs ago.. well, thank the 4yr best buy extended warranty again. it's with the geek squad now. i'm a geek squad frequent customer this month.

no more bad luck with electronics, please.

..because meanwhile, i got sirius in my car!

Hrmpf. My photo ipod started freezing a couples times here and there when trying to select songs in the past month or two. I'd have to force a 'reboot', which sometimes didn't even work so I'd just let it sit until it got tired of hanging or shut off because the battery gave up (!). Suddenly it wouldn't start up again. I saw the frowny ipod face once or twice before nothing happened again with a link to tech support. None of the recommendations on the site helped either.
Then I remembered having bought an extended warranty when I purchased it 2 years ago at Best Buy.
Off to the geek squad it went yesterday.
So.... if they can't fix it, I wonder if they will give me a NEW replacement.. ? Or store credit? I need to read up on how the warranty thing works.
While I'm sad that my ipod is in repair until the end of December (ugh, withdrawals in the car), I'm also secretly hoping that they can't fix it and I somehow luck out and get a new one. I actually paid more for my 20GB photo ipod 2 years ago than the current classic 80GB costs.

Oh, and snow makes me so very happy.

Looks like Hillary Clinton has officially announced that she's "exploring", too.

Well said!

Update: Example of another (he doesn't even have his own sambrownback.com site?!) exploratory committe video, Sam Brownback, rep. Senator of Kansas...

Doesn't address a single one of our country's real issues.. moron. This makes me want to scream.

Can you please list the pros and cons that come to mind when imagining yourself moving to/and-or/living in San Francisco? Good neighborhoods and average rent, maybe? Any other thoughts?

Today , I voted for the first time in the United States (I've voted in Switzerland, but never in the US..). After having failed to register on time prior to the 2004 presidential elections and having regretted it to this day, I'm glad to have done so now. It was strange; I felt really "touched" while walking into the Boston Copley Library, through the rallyists (is that a word?) to my precinct's polls this morning.

In Massachusetts, Democrat Deval Patrick won a landslide victory over his main (female) challenger Kerry Healey, current Lieutenant Governor. Either one would have made history, being either the first black or first female Governor of Massachusetts. Looks like Deval is now only the second African American Governor ever, nation-wide.
Ah. :)

Currently, projections currently show that the Dems will take over the House of Representatives.
I just read a quote that White House counselor Dan Bartlett said the president is "very disappointed". Hah. Well, I certainly do think it sends a pretty strong message of the overall dissatisfaction with the current policies. It's about fucking time people open their eyes.

What still floors me is the outcome in California. Republican Schwarzenegger, re-elected?! Hmmm.

PS: No, I don't really want to start a political discussion, because I'm sure there is a possibility that some people no my friends list aren't in agreement with my political views. Really, this post was brought to you for my own personal documentation of feelings and observations, while sharing my thoughts as we make history :)

san francisco was great. schnitzelhaus, dna lounge, haight street shopping and the golden gate bridge pt cruiser tour were fun, together with [info]a3ri, [info]mrxero and [info]xeylli. was good to see all of you again.
[info]xeylli was a great host, many thanks :) y'all (yeahyeah) know that you have a place to stay if you ever make it to boston - don't forget... :)
an ex co-worker from a few years ago hinted that she could get me a job at her company if i wanted, which is in downtown SF. hmm.. the temptation. if only it wasn't so far away from home. one thing that is great about being in boston is being so close to europe. flights are cheap and i can easily fly back once or twice a year. if i'm suddenly stranded on the west coast, the travel would be a bit more than a hop over the ocean it now is. but the west coast felt really good. ah, the grass is always greener on the other side, eh?

just got back from massive attack. music was good. elizabeth fraser sang my favorite song 'teardrop'. ahhh. though, i have yet to understand how can any show be so gdamn back-lit, the entire show. i was actually getting pissed off. do i come to see the people on stage, or do i come to see everybody around me and feel like i'm being blinded by the lights the entire time? sure, the actual light show looked "nice". it was actually less the blinding, but more of the "who are these people on stage?" that bothered me. and yes, massive attack, i agree. fuck george w.
it probably didn't help that i have/had a strep throat, am on antibiotics and therefore didn't drink before, during or after the show (last time i combined antibiotics & alcohol it was bad) and suddenly felt like i was getting a fever again. and now, now i should be in bed. nyquil should be kicking in shortly.
zz.

Normally I spend 90% of my time sleeping whenever I'm on an airplane. Today I fell asleep before we took off, and when I woke up, the drinks had already been served. Slept right through the take-off. Now once I woke up, instead of being normal me and just falling back asleep, I instead decided to watch the BravoTV Marathon of Project Runway on the whole way from Boston to Oakland on JetBlue. (I *never* watch TV, and then get on a plane to watch a marathon show?! What's wrong with me? Damn those reality shows, they are so addicting..)

My eyes are now bloodshot and I'm dead tired. This should be a fun client meeting tomorrow morning..

Aside from visiting a serious pain in the ass client, I'll be getting to see several friends over the next 5 days and will also hit the DNA Lounge on Friday - yay.

Ahhh... I already like the feel of the  West Coast and I've only been here for a couple hours.

Good night for now. Zzz.

Subject:7 years later..
Time:10:42 am
Last year on this very day, I made the following lj entry:

6 years later..

Today marks my 6-year anniversary in the US.

I basically left everything behind 6 years ago to start something new - and new I got. If I would have been asked where I would see myself 6 years later (today), I suppose I would have never expected to be where I am. Either way, I have come to accept where I am and look forward to the new places I have yet to go.
I think I've felt just about every feeling today: happy, helpful, sad, comfortable, cuddly, excited, stressed, efficient, cooperative, confused, apologetic, and most of all.. needy. I definitely feel too needy right now.

*kissing kitty paws*

Well, today's entry could look something like this:

7 years later..

Today marks my 7-year anniversary in the US.

I basically left everything behind 6 years ago to start something new - and new I got. If I would have been asked where I would see myself 6 years later (today), I suppose I would have never expected to be where I am. Either way, I have come to accept where I am and look forward to the new places I have yet to go.
I think I've felt just about every feeling today: happy, helpful, sad, comfortable, cuddly, excited, stressed, efficient, cooperative, confused, apologetic, but most of all.. confused. I definitely feel too confused right now.

*kissing kitty paws*

Weird. Nothing new besides it being 1 full year later, minus the "needy",
and my anniversary in the US now being 7 years instead of 6. Sometimes I'm not sure if this is a good thing...
( I do feel more confused. Kind of not knowing what I want in several aspects of my life. -Whatever-.)

Help, I have done it again
I have been here many times before
I Hurt myself again today
And, the worst part is there's no-one else to blame

Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me
I am small
I'm needy
Warm me up
And breathe me

Ouch I have lost myself again
Lost myself and I am nowhere to be found,
Yeah I think that I might break
Lost myself again and I feel unsafe

Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me
I am small
I'm needy
Warm me up
And breathe me

Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me
I am small
I'm needy
Warm me up
And breathe me
