so far, I've read four out of ten books in the series and am about to finish my fifth. it's unfortunate that I had to read them out of order but whatever. it's a fun series. I like how the rules of magic in its universe are well defined and how it still, to some extent, obeys the laws of physics.
I also downloaded its short-lived TV series. it's still good but not as much fun as the books. for one thing: Harry not getting his ass thoroughly kicked by the halfway point is just plain weird. TV Harry is too much of a tough guy. not nearly as many wisecracks are thrown. his cat, Mister, is nowhere to be seen. and why the hell was the Blue Beetle replaced with a Jeep?

this was the first time in, well, ever that I had to unexpectedly stay overnight at a friend's because I didn't think I'd be able to drive properly.
the plan last night was to meet up at Maan's, have dinner at A Venetto and then head back to Maan's for some drinking and videoke. others in attendance were Monica, Jayca, Crissa and Win.
finally, after almost two frakking years, that bottle of tequila Jayca gave me for Christmas was opened and drunk. I don't think I got drunk but I didn't trust my judgement enough to drive home. ended up falling asleep on Maan's couch while waiting for the feeling to pass.

due to some circumstances at work, I had to upgrade from Flash 8 to Flash CS3. the main difference between the two was that CS3 used ActionScript 3. the discrepancy between the AS2 and AS3 was so great that they might as well have been different languages. I practically had to re-learn ActionScript. the transition wasn't all that difficult but my boss figured I was right to devote some time to familiarize myself with the changes.
which meant I spent the last two days doing almost no real work. >:D

yesterday was Sacha's last day here before heading back to Canada so she sent an invite out to meet at her place around dinner time. only Ranulf, Marcelle and I were able to make it, though. there was talk of future plans, various off-color topics (which her Canadian friends never talk about. I wonder why? :p) and a viewing of Blades of Glory.
at some point during the movie, Wayne made a face that seemed to say "oh lord, I can't believe she's friends with people like this." :p

Sacha and Wayne are in town for about two weeks so the JGL spent whole day yesterday at her place. others in attendance: Mario, Marcelle, Charo, Ranulf, Clair, JM and Sean. many silly YouTube videos were watched (with some childhoods destroyed along the way) and at night, we watched Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead.
the funniest stories of the day as far as I'm concerned were in some way or other related to Diane and Mark, who were not present as they are currently on their honeymoon. how can you tell the guys in Mark's stag party were geeks? they had more fun when the stripper left and they were able to get back to playing video games.
it's Wayne's second time here and he still hasn't witnessed a JGL videoke session. that needs to be remedied.

Neil Patrick Harris is so awesome, mere shotgun blasts can't kill him. I just watched Harold & Kumar Escape Guantanamo Bay this morning. sure there were some recycled jokes but they were changed enough to still be funny.

the ICU is not a cheerful place to be. my lola had a big heart attack last Thursday and has been there since. she's awake but her condition hasn't changed.
when we visited her this evening, both adjacent rooms had comatose patients in their 40's. two other patients had just passed away. shortly after we arrived, a patient with meningitis was admitted.
it was just a bit too much mortality for me.

had dinner last night at Gerry's Libis to celebrate Monica's birthday. others in attendance were Maan, Crissa and Jane. fun times. like margarita night at Chili's a couple of months back, Crissa drank to the point of happiness.

since Jess' birthday was coming up, I had dinner last night at Flaming Wings with Jess, SJ, Henry, Tricia, Flip, Lorra, Badj, Layla (sp?), Tonic and Flo. many Buffalo wings were eaten.
because we are scientists, Henry, Flip and I discussed things of scientific nature, particularly Flip's goals of creating an organization for men's rights and one to bring up the brown man to counteract Celadon.
