Speaking of movies, A History of Violence decidedly did not make me pants-happy. I thought it was poorly, awkwardly directed and written and the kid actors were distracting. Viggo was good of course but he is much better in Eastern Promises, which is itself a far superior movie and delivers fabulous crazy eyes in the face of Vincent Cassel. Check it out.

So for a long time I wondered why Blixa broke up with Nick and the Bad Seeds and I didn't think we'd ever get to find out but in a recent Mojo mag Nick explains why he swapped boyfriends and it is

The new Bad Seeds vibe began after Blix Bargeld's departure. Why did he leave?
A few years back, we were trying something for a movie Wim Wenders was doing on the blues. We were doing this uptempto version of I Feel So Good by some blues dude. In the end, Blixa just threw his guitar down and ran into the control room and shouted, "I did not get into rock'n'roll to play rock'n'roll!" And that was pretty much the last time he played with us. With Blixa, the guitar always had to do something else than what the guitar really does. Which I did love, of course. Warren [Ellis], by contrast, doesn't really give a fuck if he sounds like other people sometimes. If it rocks, it rocks.


oooooooooh BURN!!!!!!! I bet Blixa cried when he read that!

Man, Battlestar Galactica is just killing this season. Whenever Cyclons and humans get together it is gold and the tenuous, continually fucked-up alliance is riveting. And the latest episode was just so emotionally wrenching and fulfilling; does anyone act with their entire body the way McDonnell does? She's amazing.

I'm kind of freaking out about how awesome the Watchmen movie is shaping up to be. Snyder's blog has a couple of great, detailed videos dealing with set and costume design and everything just looks so awesome. Okay, I was a little concerned about casting (although Jeffrey Dean Morgan is going to be an fabulous Comedian) cause I love me some Patrick Wilson and Matthew Goode but tall and built/run to seed they are not. And the superhero costumes are kind of....Schumacherish. But we shall see.

The thing I wonder most is how they're going to treat the ending, cause shit is dark. Shit is most emphatically not a Hollywood movie ending.
