Whee. I'm in Ohio. I figured I'd give an update to you livejournalers, and put an update in my "real" blog later.
Last night, Brian and I got up to the rental car desk in Cleveland, the young lady behind the counter said "So, what brings you to Ohio?"
Brian: "Oh, we're planning to do some get out the vote stuff."
Her: "It figures - you're about the 14th or 15th folks coming through today doing that."
Us: "Oh."
Her: "Are you guys from California? That's where people seem to be coming in from."
Us: "Um, yeah, actually."
Her: "Do you want a minivan like everybody else so that you can drive people to the polls?"
Us: *getting increasingly more flustered* "Um, no thanks."
We collected our car and drove off.
Today, we spent working with Oberlin Votes, trying to get the databases in order so that we have a good list of local voters that we can check off on Election Day as we find out who's voted and who hasn't. And while I'm putzing around here, Rob is trying to figure out how to send out a mass email so that we can send everybody the location of their polling place (which is sometimes hard to find as a college student especially when you don't know the street address of your dormitory, which most of them apparently don't). Looks like there will be plenty to do in Oberlin proper over the next couple days. Hopefully the rest of Ohio is covered sufficiently by the hordes of out-of-staters flying in. I'm actually kind of curious what the ratio of out-of-staters to Ohio residents is at this point, given the rental clerk's comment.
