Tomorrow I'm off to Vegas for the weekend. Cousin's wedding/impromptu family reunion thing.
And I'm going with 17$ to my name. I want to see how much of it I can come back with.

The contractors in this area in the late 60s-early 70s frighten me. I've worked on lots of houses and I don't know how many HUD/Section8 apartment units. I've never had to replace outlets by destroying them. Hell, the 1870s farmhouse was in great shape compared to alot of what I've seen out here.

The outlet face came off with the outlet plate- the screw strip wasn't attached to the outlet core at all. this is the third disintegrating outlet I've changed out in this house. One had actually arced thru the body, eating a hole in the back.

I'm pretty sure this one has 3 live feeds going to it- all bridged, no split outlets (117, 117, and 107V??). I'll test it again after I get back. After the Mercer house, I thought nothing could surprise me electrically.
    I was wrong.

    mmm, mucus.
after 36 days, I killed the LEDs. They were still emitting, but not really usable at that point. the light output was good for about 3 weeks though- getting to about half brightness in that time.
    they pull 2.79v, at .95mA.

    (30) 18000 mcd 3mm LEDs in parallel, on (2) 2000mah crap rechargeables. about 70lux at 30ish inches.
    for over a month.

4am high altitude lightning strikes, their subsequent rumbles, and the cold air rushing down just before the light rain make me happy.

My foot is killing me. What a full weekend it's been.
Fri was Dark Knight. I don't need to see any other films ever. I'm sated.
Sat was Trentmania (111 20 1) at Key Arena, with half of the region in tow. and then Beth's.
Sun was resting up.... wait that didn't get to happen. running around, and then back to Beth's, causing my second appearance within 24 hours. This was noted by the staff. to celebrate, I abominated a bacon cheeseburger with mushrooms, an egg, and a sausage patty. it was delicious. period.
Now? I'm sitting, watching 30 LEDs burn thru 3v of rechargeable batteries as fast as they can. which isn't very. 3 hours and counting. Why I've never bought an electronics breadboard before now escapes me, Christ they're useful.

I've converted my room to T8 bulbs, instead of screw in CFLs. to say the lighting is superior would be superfluous- and I'm saving over 20 watts to get the better lighting. 6500K bulbs are my frenz ( Side note, you CAN use T8 bulbs in T12 housings- I've been doing it over a year with no issue. Though now, it's one bulb per housing, instead of the 2 I had earlier, so we'll see how the ballast does). I do believe I'll throw some 6500K T9s in the other bedrooms. the old school housings they have now are just horrid for CFLs.
I also got to show Bryan how a 20 yr old outlet can crumble in your hands while you swap it out for something with some friction.

As for Mythos/Flagship, I'll talk about that when able to without jinxing anything.

    Yaaa I caused a hit n run!
It must be HORRIBLY emasculating for a car full of urban youths with the hippity hop playing, not paying attention, to be cut off by the NYer driving the Saturn who's had his blinker on for the last 3 minutes. But I bet it's moreso spiritually damaging when the car full of 3 fat white guys starts laughing at you for yelling back shit due to cutting you off, when you were supposed to wait, pay attention, and yknow, realize you're not the only person on the planet.
I think the best part though, was when you realised in your haste and wishful thuggery thinking, you rearended the Zipcar, with a good half dozen people watching, because your shiny shiny teefmouth was yapping on, drawing attention to yourself, while we laughed in our airconditioned cocoon.
Luckily, we got your plate, someone else did as well, and your lack of driving skill caused no damage anyway. but good on ya for trying. I needed the luls.

    Current Mood: cold hard thuggish

    welcome to Y2K part deux.
It bothers me that no one seems to have noticed ICANN's latest decision, or said anything about it...

Tonight's forecast: Dark. Continued dark throughout most of the evening,...
    and with that, my weekend.
Friday- Gabriel Iglesias at the Moore. Fucking hysterical. Martin, the lying short guy I can't recall, and Chris Fonseca opened for him. Fonseca was hilarious, made even moreso by folkaround me not expecting someone with cerebral palsy to be so mouthy and witty. Gabriel did very little of his taped performances, and had fun with the Q&A section- goofing on Capitol Hill, Dicks and such. I also played remote car mechanic to a bevy of beauties.
Sat- Thanks to Heather, I wound up seeing the Children of Huang Shi which was actually good. Tapas were had before hand, which somehow I'd avoid to do until then. Watched The Happening at home, and was glad I did- it was abhorrent. Such tripe, delivered poorly.
Sun- having watched The Happening and slept, I went forth with no fear and weedwhacked the backyard for an hour. I then prepped the house and outside areas for the impending roof replacement Mon-Weds. Yaaa, finally. Puttered around til 8ish then helped move the rest of Bryan's things in for the most part.
I also picked up a tube of Shoe Goo to play with. I'm wearing the old wellll worn boots until I get something else going, and needed a cheap and fast sole fix- so we'll see how this pans out. so far, it looks promising. it's baking under the halogen lamp. 72 hour cure my ass... I know my materials :P

    and this makes 24.
    LG Decoy.

by 24, I mean ideas developed before I had patent funds. For things I came up with in the late 90s.

now that the AP newswire's finally got it...
Stan Winston died yesterday at 62.
He was part of why I got into many of the things I did over the past decade.

Bryan: " Why can't she be my little boy...}sigh{ wait. fuck."

Tonight I showed Bryan how to snake a drain. 20 feet in, mmmm hairball.

yes, I'm aware there's no way the above can't not be perverted and twisted. have at, simpletons.

Last night [info]wayren and I went out to Danny's Pub in Kirkland to attend Jon Crosby of VAST's first acoustic show. The pub was semi-loud and full of career drunks save the few of us sitting near the empty little stage. There was maybe 30 people sitting by the stage listening, making it a very personal sort of atmosphere. It really was just Jon up there on that big stage with a mic and his guitar, belting out years of VAST songs with the occasional Generica track thrown in. He even played a few of the harder tracks which all turned out very well.

The stars at night, are big and briiiiiight
Went to San Antonio this past weekend. Was a more or less random trip, as I didn't buy the tickets, and a group of us went.
The area was like one giant small town- which was really neat to see- the anti-sprawl demon in me wanted to not like it, but it was so green. everywhere. so much green.
It wasn't too bad temperature/humidity wise- the angle of the sun was an old familiar feel though. I actually enjoyed my time in the sun, and didn't burn.
I just wish I hadn't napped so much.
Lots more to see, another time.

    1:50 am
Dave, Heather and I went and saw a play my coworker is in tonight after getting there too late yesterday (seriously. 1.1 miles, 2 stoplights. HOW, SEATTLE, can this take 20 minutes if I average over 10mph... bizarre.)
It was hilarious, and alot more fun than I'd expected. All I knew was it was silly and had something to do with relationships. Dave later told me it was based on an old old greek play.
It was quirky, silly and solid. The theater was verrrry small- maybe 80 people, but that made it better, a tighter presence to it.
This is the last week for the show- check it out if you can.

    hotness

It's rather amusing, let alone effective using an Israeli gas mask when doing wood work. Mmmm, sawdust free eyes n lungs. Easy cleanup too " smack me in the head with the rag!!! now the face!".

I've a feeling I'll be a master of rebuilding small engines by the end of this summer.

    Nekkie photogs and their work.
I completely forgot to advertise it, but I wound up dragging roomie Dave to this event at Artwalk tonight. Got to see a bunch of people I haven't seen in forever who were presenting, several others I see fairly recently, and got to hobnob with teh Da3n again. I got to meet Cambler finally, but completely forgot to introduce myself. Lj-familiarity syndrome will do that sometimes. Kevin was a beehive, so that didn't happen either. Luckily I wasn't viable for the Kenalog shot, or my paycheck would be in his liver by now. Angel was there too- Dave liked her Icing image, and might wind up buying it,. She was entirely too sweet to me.

Verotica143's mime work was neat- she's got a crazy expressive face. Hands of Kali was fun, causing me to bump into Tiphany, whee.

The framing that Nicole (gAk) did on her images was neat as hell. Totally fit the work. Kevin's stuff was huge, and clean, but stood out really well on the wall. Rayce's framing and mattes were just a nightmare ;P

There was some neat sculpture in the back, unrelated to Sake, a reallly cool giant penis lamp (not dirty, just a rad style to it), and also a neat water fountain design- like an ankh without the crossbar, but solid.
Ugh, ti totally sounds like I'm name dropping, but I'm just noting who's stuff was there, and people I know/have met and who do good work. At some point, I really need to do the bio update/post to promote all the creative folk I know and their output. that's going to be quite an effort though...

    12:58 am
I realized while at BTC this afternoon just how much I miss hearing church bells toll the hours ( Yes, I know it's a recording in Bellevue, but I grew up with several sets of actual bells). Before moving to Factoria, I can't recall not having them within earshot.

I also came to notice that I'm constantly amused by personal mythologies. In no part due to being the target of quite a few. What are some of the mythologies you/your social group(s) engage in/recognize?

Also, allergy season has been MILD this year thus far I'm mostly just slightly congested, not dying. I'm not diabetic (I'd peak at 200ish, and wake in the 80s when I was being realllly careful about sugars.) I might be RIDICULOUSLY pre pre pre diabetic but the numbers, considering what else my body does to everything I put in it, aren't out of range for someone who's led a soda fueled 3 decades and a body that tolerates it well. I got new boots, with the proper height lift, so my hips should realign. I found a guy in Edmonds that's also into the crazy sculpting/casting/molding fun. Halloween should be rad as hell this year.

Work remains awesome, and I'm only a few months behind financially, mostly due to other folk being douches. The roof gets replaced soon, and I'm likely to install a solar hot water preheater on it, and a panel or two for feeding a battery array so I can experiment with lighting my room on LEDs alone. If it works ok, I'll convert the entire upstairs to the system. Joule thieves and other fun to keep it low on the power needings.

So many projects this year. Lawdy. Oh, and our master bedroom is available now, if there are any sane employed people left needing a place.
