About Converse. Those original shoes pictured above have lasted me over PHOOOOOAR (4) YEARS now and still refuse to die. It's funny because when I first bought them I had to buy a freakin' shoe horn to help me get my feet in, but since then they've loosened up and pretty much become my personal favorites. I bought a pair of Shaqs a couple of years later but they actually started coming apart even before the Converses. (Note to Mr. O'Neal: If you go to a cheap shoe manufacturer to produce athletic shoes that are cheap to the public, they will end up owning cheap shoes.) And the Iverson Reeboks I bought about a year before the Converses, they always had problems squeaking and now the damn things are eating themselves away on the inner heel. ANYWAY.
What really made the Converses so awesome was that, because of the black soles and glossy design, I could totally get away with them at work because from a distance they look reasonably dressy. The only problem was that, after about 4 years, they were kinda starting to get scuffed, so the "dressy" part was becoming less and less so.
Ideally, I just wanted to buy a new pair of the exact same shoes :p but the wiles of the industry don't let you do that. So the hard part was finding another pair of shoes that will do the whole "athletic comfort but masquerading as business-casual" thing ... and who'd have guessed, Converse totally has another design which Shoe Pavilion was trying to get rid of at their store liquidation sale.
At least I won't need a shoe horn this time.
