    Happy 4th of July
Just found out Jessie Helms died. Of course the internet lefties are breaking out in chorus about how great this is. Yea, the same people who got upset when people made jokes about Ted Kennedy's tumor. Hell of a fourth.

    USSC affirms the 2nd Amendement
It's nice to see at least 5 of the justices on the USSC aren't willing to say the 2nd Amendment isn't unconstitutional.

    Stuidity...
But Kennedy said the absence of any executions for rape and the small number of states that allow it demonstrate "there is a national consensus against capital punishment for the crime of child rape."

Yea...just like how there's few states that limit abortions it must mean that Americans love abortions. Maybe Kennedy would be making more sense if the USSC ruled in the 70s that rape was not proportional to the death penalty, thus overturning all laws concerning rape as a capital crime, there'd be more states with the death penalty for child rapists.

Now if we can get enough states to just make being a USSC Justice a capital offense it'll pass the legal muster that Kennedy has established.

I'm confident by the time I am an old man, the idea that there's nothing worth defending about America will become quite popular.

    Disgusting
    Yes...the USSC ruling is disgusting.

    On a related note:
A Massachusettes politician had this to say concerning mandatory sentences for children who accuse adults of rape:

“I’m gonna rip them apart, I’m going to make sure that the rest of their life is ruined, that when they’re 8 years old, they throw up; when they’re 12 years old, they won’t sleep; when they’re 19 years old, they’ll have nightmares and they’ll never have a relationship with anybody.”

And you think the victim doesn't already? Try having a relationship with the victim of child sexual abuse. You'll see how much they get over it. The depression...anxiety. It's awful. It's only made worse by assholes who are hellbent on ripping them apart and calling them liars.

Sometimes... I wonder why we stopped lynching politicians.

    Usenet
I really like Usenet...but God is it a lesson in anarchy. Sometimes...you just don't know what you're getting till you get it...and all you can do is try to unsee what you've seen. It'd be nice if there was a bit of honesty and some groups would just put out a tag saying "absolutely nothing redeeming in this group...we should all be shot dead"

If Usenet represented the real world I'd say it's all pirates, spammers, and really sick people.

John McCain wants to kill your children
We've got to band together to stop the fearmongering Neocons.

In related news, the guy who created the "Daisy "ad died the other day. The one that said if you vote Republican, you're voting for little blonde-haired girls to get nuked.

    The internet has become worthless...
...as an information gathering tool. It's simply too cluttered by shysters and online sales people jamming every search engine with ads and pleas to buy thier products.

Even if it can be monetized...give up looking for it. Have a problem with an appliance...heaven help you if you put in the model number because all google will give you is ads and e-tailers trying to get you to visit their pages to sell you the product. Reviews? Yea right.

In a way it's made me go retro and just go to stores and ask sales people their opinion on products because of these online bastards. Especially the ones that just serve as a search engine catch-all with absolutely no real benefit except advertising sales- yea, looking at you bizrate and nexttag.

    What's not to get Barry?
Obama: "But I can't understand why he would line up behind the President in his opposition to this GI bill."

McCain: "The most important difference between our two approaches is that Senator Webb offers veterans who served one enlistment the same benefits as those offered veterans who have re-enlisted several times. Our bill has a sliding scale that offers generous benefits to all veterans, but increases those benefits according to the veteran's length of service. I think it is important to do that because, otherwise, we will encourage more people to leave the military after they have completed one enlistment. At a time when the United States military is fighting in two wars, and as we finally are beginning the long overdue and very urgent necessity of increasing the size of the Army and Marine Corps, one study estimates that Senator Webb's bill will reduce retention rates by 16%."

To which McCain followed up with: "Perhaps, if Senator Obama would take the time and trouble to understand this issue he would learn to debate an honest disagreement respectfully. But, as he always does, he prefers impugning the motives of his opponent, and exploiting a thoughtful difference of opinion to advance his own ambitions. If that is how he would behave as President, the country would regret his election."

Yea, I'm sure McCain just hates Vets, Barry.

    Hypocracy
Now that Kennedy is possibly dying, I expect a chorus of lefties, who cheered and laughed about the death of Reagan and other right wingers, will now rise up to badmouth all the awful vile Republicans who aren't remorseful about his demise.

    Spoiler: People are the villains
Figured I'd ruin the big secret about life that you're not supposed to find out till the end of the movie. That is if you can navigate the many illogical and nonsensical twists it'll take and come away with any understanding of the plot. Like a M. Night Shaymalan movie, life really does like to throw out some twists that really if you look at it really make not a damned bit of sense.

Why is that? Just look at us. Everyone talks about how we need to embrace reason and logic and then they piddle all over it in order to hold to their bigoted (yea, the real meaning of the word and not the bastardized term PC fanatics throw out to describe hicks) ideas or simple vices. Here's a twist, I know when I'm sinning and enjoying vice. I don't try and cover it up or explain it away. I can't stand people who know they're screwing up and that the slide in their life is so incredibly obvious but they find some reason to justify it. What I try to do when I'm messing up is pull myself back from the edge and actively try to not do those things.

It's not hard to be the hero. But that's just it. We want to see the hero... we talk about wanting to be the hero but few actually want to take the incremental steps to actually becoming the hero. We can't think for just a second and overide the most basic concepts in our head that are born entirely of the most primordial parts of the brain so we lie, cheat, steal, and commit vice because it's just so much easier than actually denying these things and becoming better people. And then we act surprised!

You want a happy marriage? Work on being happy and don't do the crap or tolerate the crap that breaks them up. You want to raise a good kid? Then teach the kid everything they need to know to be good. Tired of your neighborhood being run down. Then run down the people hurting it. All the solutions are fairly obvious but they're not easy. And that's the point.

Life wasn't meant to be easy.

For millions of years evolution has forced biological creatures to being antagonistic towards each other for purposes of genetic domination. Let's just admit this. All these notions about people being good deep down inside is really nonsense. We are the products of an early primate that chased down and massacred his rivals so he could eat their food and mate with their women. Biologically in all respects we carry that same baggage. There are exceptions but we're kidding ourselves to think that we're natively humble. Being humble is something we have to work on being despite our urges. So should we deny these urges?

Because we have cognicance. We have souls. Somewhere along the line we realized that being primitive butchers was wrong. We can make the active choice of choosing evil or good because of that. But few ever really want to be evil. That is they don't want to make the acknowledgement tha they chose to be evil.

I think that's why we invented politics. That way we can hide all our vices behind a representative. Want someone to be forced to do something for you? Well just elect a politician who'll make them do that. Think something ought to be done to help the poor(virtue) but don't have the moral strength or conviction to do it yourself(vice)? Then get a politician to do it for you. You can mask everything to get praise or to mute the criticism of vice. Virtue by proxy is as good as actual virtue today aparently. Then every couple of years we dump the guy/gal and bring in a new one to start the whole process over again.

Expecting Obama or McCain to educate your kids is like expecting your bookie to help train the teams you bet on. They want what you can give them and there's really little they themselves can do elsewise. I think the founders realized this but America has fooled itself into believing otherwise.

Eh...I'm just rambling at this point.

    A meaningful post...
I was added by veryone on my friends list because of who I am. That is as short and obvious a statement as I can make. I have really done a disservice by not posting my thoughts and giving people a reason for having me. I feel saddened slightly whenever I'm dropped by someone because it represents someone that just doesn't care about reading what I write. But ultimately, it's my fault for either not posting something worth reading or their error in ot wanting something I've written. And clearly I have been offering nothing worth having for quite some time.

I first came to be online because I had time to kill on Collegeclub and I fell into a great group of people who were lively, open, and honest. And it does sadden me that I don't talk to most of them anymore. Realistically group politics and a few issues caused that. I'm saddened probably most of all by the defriending that happened because of small grievances.

Now, to the real substance of this post beyond ultimately meaningless sorrow.

I am a fairly spiritual person. I keep it close to my chest though because I find most people to be spiritually shallow. By that I don't mean they do't practice religion or that their faith is superficial. I mean rather that their spirit is weak in its ability to connect with a deeper meaning. Most of these people do tend to cover it well. With that, let's go to the Christian faith.

I have a lot of prolems with many people who identify themselves as Christian. They were the label like one wears Armani or Gucci. It's simply a status symbol at best and an excuse at worst.

Going to break it here for people with a short attention span. Stay tuned for part 2 later today.

I am officially a beneficiary of slavery
Looked through some geneology stuff today. Found a record showing that my father's father's father's mother's mother's father(great-great-great-great-grandfather) owned 4 slaves on 17th of July 1860 when the census was taken.

Odds are there's many more as the document I have includes a lot of familial surnames on it. So what's my liability for reparations?

In celebration of his birthday along with my dad's....
    PJ O'Rourke-

Under collectivism, powers of determination rest with the entire citizenry instead of with the specific citizens. Individual decision-making is replaced by the political process. Suddenly, the system that elected the prom queen at your high school is in charge of your whole life. Besides, individuals are smarter than groups, as anybody who is a member of a committee or of a large Irish family after six in the evening can tell you. The difference between individual intelligence and group intelligence is the difference between Harvard University and the Harvard University football team.

I do read almost all the friends posts I see. I have it set as my home page and it's been that way for about 6 years now. So if I don't respond by no means think that I ignore you or don't want to be a good friend. It just means that I have nothing to say.

    LSU
What gives with LSU constantly facing #17 and #9 ranked teams? If we can get by Alabama with a decent win then we'll be safe for the rest of the season.

    Can Ohio defeat #12 Michigan?

Gotta give Boston College props though for beating an 8th ranked team though. Realistically the ranked teams are the real threats. Unranked teams act as spoilers but realistically a #1 shouldn't lose to them.

Speaking of which. What happened to Kentucky? They messed us up....then proceeded to slack off. If they weren't committed to getting a bowl game they should have just laid down and not messed up the 800lb gorilla with a chainsaw for a penis.

    WW2 POW's condemn torture!
    http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/P/POWS_TORTURE?SITE=WWLAM&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

The twist that seperates this story from that "other" one is that in this one the article wasn't meant to serve as propaganda and as such actually has people not commenting on issues they're not intimately familiar with.

It's nice to see someone who knows the difference between bashing and guarded criticism.

For the backstory on why there's stitches on my chest... well, they had to excise the atypical lymphocytes somehow.
