On Monday we traveled all over downtown Chicago. We went to the Sears Tower Skydeck and I got to be on the third tallest building in the world. It was rather intimidating because of my fear of heights, but didn't feel like it was moving like the St. Louis Arch did. I know it sounds crazy, but it really felt like it was swaying. Andy didn't believe me. :P Mid-day Monday we traveled through Millenium Park and I got to see this huge fountain that is like a mini-pool with kids everywhere running around and getting wet. If only I had brought a swim suit. Not really, but it looked fun. And I got a picture of my reflection in the great bean as well as pictures from other places in my trip. My favorite part of the trip, besides seeing Corey and Manny, was the trip to the Planetarium. Adler Planetarium sits on the shoreline to Lake Michigan and is freakin' huge but awesome at the same time. Corey took many pics with her digital camera. Tuesday found me venturing out on my own while Corey worked at her job. I went to a used book store in the northern side of Chicago. The store, called Myopic books, is the epitome of used book stores. A three story old looking building filled with musty old hardbacks and paperbacks. Here, I would finally be able to find a copy of Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game along with a gently used copy of a book about the Apollo astronauts I saw at the Planitarium and a gently used paperback copy of the first Harry Potter book which I bought for Kristen so she could get to reading. :D I must spread the addiction within the family. Tuesday night was rather subdued as I was still kind of tired from Monday so we stayed in the apartment and watched the tv and played a little Wii. I got my butt kicked by Corey as Pikachu in Super Smash Bros. Brawl because I forgot to bring my Nunchuk and couldn't do some of my attack moves. Then I ceremoniously spanked her in Wii Sports Tennis and Bowling; something I could actually play unlike Brawl. Wednesday was another subdued day. I stayed back in the apartment while Corey worked her practicum. I watched a marathon of Keeping with the Kardashians (I know, weird for me) on E! while Manny hid under Corey's bed most of the day. Then we went to Navy Pier and had dinner at Joe's BeBop Cafe. Ken had Popcorn Shrimp, Corey had Pulled Pork with BBQ sauce and cole slaw, and I had the Onion Orgy Burger which had a slice of regular red onions with fried onion straws and a green onion mayo sauce with swiss cheese and french fries. It was very good. I love onions! Then Corey and I returned to her apartment because I still wasn't feeling well. I had a small sinus headache throughout the day that evolved into a full-blown headbuster after dinner so I spent most of the evening in pain. I managed to crawl to a 7-Eleven down the street and buy some Aleve (should have took some with me, I know). Then after a cold shower and some Aleve I fell asleep. On Thursday, we checked out a used book store in Wrigleyville and I got to see Wrigley field. The Cubs were playing the Cincinnatti Reds at the time so the whole area was crowded with fans and ticket scalpers. Boy was there a lot of ticket scalpers. No, I don't want to buy a ticket to a game that's already half over!
After a trip down to the Dollar Store to make out with huge deals we found the bookstore that was down the street from Wrigley. There I bought Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, two astronomy books (Planets by Dava Sebol and Patrick Moore on Mars), and finally The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.
Back at Corey's apartment, she, Ken and I played Smash Bros. Brawl after eating Long John Silvers (yum -- even though I didn't finish all my food) and finished the day watching 101 Funniest SNL Moments on E!
Friday morning I spent the day packing up everything and then Corey and I hopped a train and a bus to Union Station where I waited for my bus back to Toledo. Unfortunately, the bus was late, but not too late. Once on the bus, I managed to get my seat in the very back of the second level, like I wanted, and enjoyed the ride from Chicago to South Bend, Indiana, where we made a pit stop at a McD's. After scarfing down food we continued our adventure from Indiana into Ohio and reached Toledo about 10 minutes later than schedule.
Sorry this took so long to post but since being back I've had a lot of stuff to do and only got around to typing up the last few days until now.
