I sometimes wish that a book was a legitimate reason for taking a personal day.

I've been reading The Yiddish Policeman's Union by Michael Chabon. I was reading it on the bus the other day while on my way to work. During this short bus ride, the book went from pretty damn good to OMG this is incredible. And then it my stop came up, and I had to close the book and enter the salt mines.

Why is Law and Order, in all of its various incarnations, so damn addictive? Seriously, someone should do a study. I'm an episode and a half into a SVU marathon, and I foresee that I may be here for several more episodes.

You might not see me for a while.

I come to preach to you today about Mary Doria Russell. She is a wonderful author who only has three published books so far. Two are science fiction (The Sparrow and Children of God), and the other (Thread of Grace) takes place in Italy during World War 2. It's as if she's writing just for me:) I've read The Sparrow and Children of God both in the past month, and I'm a quarter of the way through Thread of Grace.

She does have another novel coming out in a few weeks called Dreamers of the Day. It's about how France and England divided up the Middle East in the aftermath of World War !. I can't wait.

Your Score: Eddard Stark

You scored 190 Adaptability, 130 Humor, 300 Integrity and 150 Activity!

If you would take a man's life, you owe it to him to look into his eyes and hear his final words. And if you cannot do that, then perhaps the man does not deserve to die.

You are Eddard Stark.

Also known as Ned, you are a pillar of morality in a corrupt world. No matter what kind of people or situations you encounter, your sense of honor remains as strong as it can possibly be. You are rather introverted, but you are deeply caring person when it comes to your family and friends. You are forthright and often disgusted by people who are sneaky, deceitful and manipulative. You are serious, reserved, and righteous.

You are also similar to Catelyn Stark and Brienne of Tarth. Your polar opposite is Euron Greyjoy.

There Will be Blood-This was pretty good for the most part, and then it fell apart in the last half hour or so. The ending just kind of made me say huh? Whatever is making critics go crazy for this movie I'm just not seeing.

Juno-Once it stopped trying to so hard to be hip and quirky, this was a really funny and touching movie.

Cats no doubt spend a great deal of time lamenting the fact that they do not have opposable thumbs. However, the feline species has not consider that lack of opposable thumbs means that they never have to worry about knitting #@*&^+%! thumb holes for gloves!

I hate knitting with cotton. And I loved smoked cheese. Especially smoked gouda. Okay, I just plain love cheese, but especially smoked gouda.

Let me know if you need any more information about me.

fingerless gloves, Blade Runner, and cookies

I am making excellent progress on my fingerless gloves. The pattern I’m using is fetching from the spring 2006 issue of knitty. The pattern calls for cables; at first, it was a bit tricky to make cables on dpns. But I’m getting the hang of it. I’m a little proud of the fact that I’m getting over my dpn phobia with this project. I’m getting some practice with cables; I’ve only done them once before and I didn’t do them properly

I bought the new Blade Runner dvd set. You get four versions of the movie, including the so called final cut that was recently released. The final cut has three commentary tracks. You also get a making of documentary that is almost three hours long I think. That’s a whole lot of Blade Runner. I haven’t seen the movie in about ten years and it is still amazing. Except for the cheesy prog rock/synthesizer soundtrack.

I made white Russian cookies last night for my office’s cookie exchange. These are basically chocolate chip cookies, but with white chocolate chips and kahlua. I’m going to toot my own horn and say that these cookies rule. I put a good amount of kahlua in the batter; it’s a good thing alcohol bakes off otherwise my cookies would probably get you drunk.
