...diving the Mind

Now what's she going on about?

fractal figments

Yattering about whatever comes into my head. Could be knitting, jewelry making, books... But just as likely to be my state of mind, or family history. No one ever said I stayed focused.

All Hail The Portland And Gresham Fire Departments!

Or, I Didn't Mean That Interesting!

No, I am not singed. Not even slightly. All is well here, no worries. But you know how I occasionally mourn that I don't get out enough to post really interesting photographs more frequently?

Well, Wednesday morning, I didn't need to get out. I could see some of what was causing all the excitement from my balcony door. Actually, from further back in my living room, sitting at my computer. And that kind of excitement, people don't need.

Seen On Two Friends' Blogs At Least...

If there are one or more people on your friends list who make your world a better place just because they exist, and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the Internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.

...and meant for those two, and a lot more of you out there. Just 'cause I felt like it. And ok, it's also going around. But it never hurts to let your friends know how you feel, even if it's in a blanket sort of statement.

Just rambling today, because it's warmish, but not terribly hot, and I'm feeling awfully lazy. Um, make that more so than usual. ;) So the rest is this 'n that and links and nothing meaningful whatsoever. Plus, with the fan on me and the temperature not bad, it's one of the rare occasions during summer that I'm not - at the moment - actively hating it. <g> In fact, the air sort of feels like warm silk at the moment...

Wanna Enter A Contest? (No, not mine.)

It's hot. Saturday, Portland hit 90-mumble-something (I don't remember, my brain melted), and Sunday was 93. I was out in it Sunday, too, which was crazy, but it was a rare chance to spend a day with Tina. Luckily we spent most of the time indoors at the Portland Convention Center, browsing the Gem Faire until both our brains melted.

Being as nothing earth-shattering happened - well, except the brain-melting thing - plus the fact that I'm rather whacked from heat again, this will be a short post. Yes! A short one! For me, at least. ;) But interesting for you knitters and spinners out there. It's past time I caught up with something I've been meaning to post for a week, and help spread the word about a contest. Heh; watch everyone's ears perk and their noses quiver. What could you win?

Yarn.

Quiet Celebrations

From the above, you might surmise that my 4th of July was very low-key this year. You'd be right. ;)

Not that there's anything wrong with this; in fact, I quite enjoyed doing absolutely nothing much, not even watching the neighborhood fireworks. Although that was by accident.

I Have Actually Done A Few Things! Like, Celebrate A Momentous Occasion.

Admittedly, not much except for yacking on Ravelry's forums - because the writing there is short (usually), and I don't have to think about it, y'know? - and reading. <g> But then, I've still been in the doldrums stage, and the weather swinging back and forth between summer and early spring had an effect, too. Plus there was a week-long or so migraine in there. So I've just been taking things easy. Especially since I really didn't feel like starting another mass photo editing effort to get the last of the Madrona trip pix done.

Yeah, I know, lazy, lazy...but there's still quite a few of those, and the way I go at editing, it's actual work. ;) However, there was another big event, and those photos didn't need much editing at all. (Thank ghu.)

It Lives!...Arguably

Yes, despite all appearances to the contrary, I'm still hanging around. I think I kinda burned out with photo editing <g>, and got blog block. :P And then nasty hot weather - c'mon, 94F for two days in a row, bracketed by another three days or so of high 80's, in May? Holy heatwave, Batman! After coma-ing myself through that, I was kind of tired and lackadaisical; and whoa, before I know it, it's the bloody end of the month and I haven't posted since the first? When Judy left a comment wondering if I was ok, I realized how long it'd been. Eek! Thank you, Judy - yes, I'm fine! Sorry about that, folks. I seem to have a block against making short posts, too. So if I don't have much to say, I dither around and put it off, because I can't believe people would just want to see a few lines. But I keep forgetting that maybe you might like to know I'm still alive, here. Especially since when I'm like this, I get very random about the email, too. *sigh*

Yarn Harlot In Portland 2008 - The Outtakes

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Yep, the rest of the decent - and some semi-decent - photos. And not nearly so much text. <g> Some are pretty blurry. I have got to practice taking action shots! I'm sure my camera can do it; I'm the one who doesn't know what she's doing, and sticks to auto settings. I foresee some intense studying of the manual before the next event I go to. I hope, anyway. Now that I've stated my intention, no doubt it'll take me a couple of years before I get around to it.

So, a mixed bag here; let's get to it!

PDX, 4/22/2008: Among Other Things, Stephanie Could See Over The Podium This Time

If you're going to hold a bang-up event for knitters, like the Yarn Harlot coming to town, make sure a yarn company throws it. Better yet, make sure said company's yarns are wildly popular. Then to add all the toppings, make it a local company.

About 30 miles down the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon, in a smallish town named Scappoose, there's this little yarn company called Blue Moon Fiber Arts. Maybe you other knitters have heard of it?

Whoooooooooooooeeeeeeeeeeee, did we have a fun time Tuesday night!

But it started even earlier than that, for the energetic among us. Get the snacks and something to drink. We're gonna be here a while. I said this was going to be long, didn't I? <eg> Warning: For those of you who haven't been warned before, I do mean long. I'm habituated by con reports, so this is seriously in-depth on detail. Also, of course, I have no life. Heh.

Right. Just a head's up.

A) I'm back. <g> Sorry it's taken so long; panic attacks and leg took me over. Raveltherapy helped.

B) Madrona Part 3 will be delayed yet again, until after next post, because--

C) The 22nd, Earth Day, was the day of the Yarn Harlot's stop in Portland on her current book tour. And if I don't write that sucker up soon, I'll forget half of it!

D) So look for a reeeaaallllyyyyyy long post about Stephanie in Portland either late tonight, or bright and early Friday in the wee hours.
(God willing and the crick don't rise.) Lots of babbling, lots of pix. I've finally got all the links sorted out (ohgawd, I hope so, anyway), and have to start editing the pix; which knowing me, will take longer than anything else. Plus I need to get part of the story from other sources, as I was on the wings of that particular action, couldn't see very well, and we were all laughing too loudly for me to hear. ;) Hopefully I'll get that info soon enough that I can put it in the next post. If not, it'll get its own post. We will not be delayed any longer!

E) Lordy, it's nice to be back. I've missed you guys! Thanks for being so patient, and I hope y'all haven't given up on me. <g>

Onwards!

So, finally I can sit at the computer longer, and start getting back to what passes for normal. Heh. Yeah, I know, I know..."normal" is merely a loose approximation around here. Oh, and I do have pix of the initial leg bruising in this post, so brace yourself, ok? Be glad I didn't have the energy to take more later to gross you out. <eg>

First, since there's a backlog of comments, I'm going to hit the high spots on those, rather than doing my usual commenting back. (Keep fingers crossed, within a few months I hope to have switched to some other blog host where I'll be able to email replies to comments. Oh, the bliss!) While I hate to reply in comments, I hate even worse to lump you kind folk together like this...but it's a choice between replying to umpteen comments or making a post, and I kind of figured you all might like to see something new up here, y'know? Hope I'm right on that. <g>

Thus...
