hello! andrew over at thinkspace gallery interviewed me a few days ago, right after i returned from my solo show there, Raveled, from august 8th.
normally i am not fond of interviews, but since i email back and forth with andrew often, i answered them with a bit of comfort and ease... maybe too much? i didn't know it was going to be posted so fast, and on other sites (i saw it on juxtapoz too), so i apologize if it sounds too casual and scattered. oops. the original version here on their blog if you're interested.. or under the cut below. (thank you, andrew! <3)
( the interview )
+ above photo is of the mural i did in the front entrance of the gallery for the show. i didn't take many photos, but will post some from the show soon...
+ and huge thanks to everyone that came out to the show!! i really can't thank you all enough!! <3<3

.....................................
i've finally finished and shipped off all the paintings, and am now finishing up some tea-stained drawings. almost all set before flying out for the show next week! :)
i'm also planning out a mural to paint in the front room - nervous! hopefully i'll feel more comfortable than the last time.
also, i thought i'd share some pics of the progress (before & after), and some other random photos below...

 { some pieces in progress for my next show }
throwing paint, pushing it around... feels good to be rough and loose.
summer days and bike riding make for a slooow progress, but one bad spill last week is now forcing me to paint a little more. (luckily fell on the left side so my painting arm is fine...)
ughh... maybe it feels even slower because i work on many pieces at a time. i just don't know how not to. |

| the long overdue site update! |
[Jun. 6th, 2008|02:00 am] |
 new front page!
finally!!! i have gotten off my lazy ass and updated my website!
i know it's not brand new, but i'm still so excited!! all the paintings you've seen on this journal are updated now, and kind of re-arranged the layout.
i think the art page had been shamefully neglected since 2006 or so. O_O thanks to pictobrower, i don't need to do much more than just simply updating my flickr - no more formatting new pages!
though it should work pretty well, please let me know if you see any glitches, typos, or any other problems. |

beautiful rural japan. on our way to tokyo from narita airport.
tokyo was great. i surprisingly had a hard time liking it the first day or two, which was because we were mostly in shinjuku and shibuya. the next few days were the best, hanging out in some great, slightly tucked-away neighborhoods, eating yummy food.

finally got around to going through my 4000 photos from asia... the sheer amount of photos i took made me procrastinate and sit on them for so long. but here they are, as a shrunken version!

| solo show recap |
[Apr. 25th, 2008|04:10 pm] |
opening night at gallery 1988 in san francisco... march 28th.
hello!! i'm finally back home from a 3.5-week-long SF-seoul-tokyo trip. :) i've been back for several days yet just been sitting on all the photos, feeling too lazy to look at them and instead distracted with so called 'experiments'... (which i may or may not share later depending on their disastrous-ness level. haha.)
when i get out of my travel coma and have enough courage to face the 3000 photos from korea & japan, the scary photo dump will come again.
but for now... i know it's old news, so with apologies for tardiness, here's what i have to share from san francisco :

 my humble studio
i recently got a new camera and thought i'd take some photos of my painting studio, which is actually just an odd nook in our apartment. i've been a little shy about sharing these things, this year i'm hoping to be able to share a few pics with my works in progress, etc...
so please peek if you're interested!
( messy corners and shenanigans )

as Hagu in honey & clover
watched hana and alice, then honey & clover(above), mostly because of Aoi Yu (蒼井優). <3
audrey's posted this paper cup ballet scene before...
( look how cute )
+ EDIT: the anime version IS much better!!! manga and anime definitely have a certain nuance and subtle senitivity that gets lost when translated into live action films, like different languages... :)
+ started another blog here... even more scatterbrained than this one. because i don't waste enough time as it is... |
