You should totally buy this house

fantastic Winter Garden Florida house

It belongs to [info]crowjoy so any questions about it ask her. I've never wanted to live in Florida but this house is so lovely it's tempting.

My next post will be from San Francisco!

I don't know much about yoga but they are all ones that emphasize getting into a series of positions fairly quickly, like they have a thing called sun salutations where you get into about six positions within a minute or two. I don't like this. For one thing, it bothers my knees. But mostly I never feel like I have gotten any of the positions right and I'm always struggling to keep up. So I'm looking for some other classes that emphasize getting into one position at a time and doing it well. I think I will take a few yoga classes privately and then mostly stick to pilates at the Y.

I went to a few open houses today that were in my neighborhood. The houses were only a few blocks apart but were very different. The first one was 59k. It was a 3 bedroom, 1 bath on a pretty busy street. It was kind of dirty inside, including a bunch of chunks of burnt wood or something in the upstairs hallway. I couldn't believe they didn't spent 30 seconds with a dustbuster or broom before the open house.

The other house was very nice, and a bit of an oddity. It was much more like houses you see in California than the ones in Syracuse. It was 109k and three bedrooms one and a half baths. It was set into a slight hill and had a garage on the bottom story. Next to the garage was a family room and then the usual cellar stuff was in a small room. Most Syracuse houses have a seperate garage, frequently in the back of the house. It had a loft style hallway, that is the hallway to the bedrooms upstairs was open to the living room. The washer and dryer were in a small closet off the upstairs hallway. I would love that! I don't even do much laundry but it's hard to have it in the basement and my dresser is two stories up!

The ceilings were wood, which I liked. It had a deck and a great backyard, not too big or small and nicely fenced. I would love to live there if it was in Tipp Hill. I like Eastwood but it's not as fun as Tipp Hill and it's further from Downtown where Dave works and where I hope to get a job when we come back.

barettes

These are two hair ornaments I made by gluing rhinestones from a too small dollar store bracelet onto plain hair clips.  They came out really  nice.  I'm enjoying having bangs and shoulder length hair.  I can put it into so many different styles.  I'm planning on making myself a lot more hair clips.

Stuff I did today

Then I went to the gym where I am also making lots of progress. It was my first trip back to the gym after being stick and even though I didn't feel like going I did it and at the end I felt very good.

When I came home I tried on some of my pants that I used to wear to the job I had this spring and they were much larger than they used to be, especially in the thighs! That made me very glad that I have been going to the gym regularly. I think I have recently lost some weight off my face too. I'm looking much better in general.

We are buying a house when we get back from California. It will be a lot cheaper than paying rent. Syracuse is a city where there was never a real estate boom. Houses are at a level where the average person can afford the average house and it's cheaper to buy than to rent. We are moving to Tipp Hill. That is an area west of Downtown, so Dave will be closer to work.

I will be getting a job when we get back from California too.  I'm going to save up and buy a rental property.

To anyone who is buying a house in an area where it snows and there are basements I highly recommend this book:
A carpenter's guide to buying a house
It's been really helpful to me in learning about what to look for when looking at basements, attics and wiring. I scanned the checklists he has in the book and will take them with me when I go to look at houses. I think the book would be of limited use to someone buying a house in California though.

Summer Fragments
Originally uploaded by Melsky

It's a word fragment painting, that is it uses text as a design element and has bits and pieces of dreams and random thoughts in it.

I started this painting when I did the Art on the Porches festival. I had my watercolors with me and I wanted to make a painting with a guitar and a woman's face on it. The guitar turned out fine and so did the cats but the woman's face looked horrid. I put it away and forgot about it until a few days ago I was unpacking a box that had stuff in it from that festival and found it. I started putting acrylic paint over the woman's face and did a lot of highlighting and outlining with acrylic and ink. I like the way it turned out.

It's much more pink and purple than my normal color scheme.

It is listed on Etsy - Summer Fragments painting

I'm really liking the technique of painting with watercolor than using acrylic on top of that, and sometimes ink and collage elements.

I am not a big raffle ticket buyer but for some reason I bought ten tickets for five bucks. To make a long story short, I WON! 380 bucks in cash. Awesome.

In other news, I have just listed a bunch of paintings on wood in my Etsy Store. These are some of the ones I made for the Art on the Porches festival, where it rained and I barely sold anything. I don't know if I will be doing many more of these. I need to settle on a direction for my art and this is not really it.

Also, DOG SHAMPOO.  I don't have any dogs or ever write about dogs or shampoo in this blog that I can remember, but when I hover over the links for this post I get a preview of my etsy store and then a bunch of keywords.  The keywords are different on each link and most of them make some sense (today show, dollar store), but on both of them it says Dog Shampoo.  So I'll see you later.  I got to go lather up some pups.

On edit - now it doesn't say dog shampoo anymore.  But it did!

I did sell enough to cover my costs and make about 28 dollars. I gave out business cards to some people too.

The weather wasn't bad, but the weather reports predicted thunderstorms and I think that kept many people away. We had periods of light rain.

At least I have lots of new things to sell on Etsy and I'll be putting those up throughout the week.
