So we thought we'd pop into town today to do some shopping(payday an' all). We pick Larnie up as well because I am buying her a new dress(she has a wedding to go to) as none of her old dresses fit her with her baby bump getting bigger! :) David has to work so we pop into the mall to see him and he makes a suggestion that we go and see the butterflies while we are in town and as it's such a glorious day we take on the idea.. for some reason or other I had put on a pair of shoes that are not the most comfortable pair of shoes to wear when doing town walking(but they looked pretty). So after having lunch and finding the right dress(and a pretty necklace) we decide to head on down to the Otago Museum and go to Discovery World and go see the Rainforest and butterflies, something we'd been meaning to do but hadn't got around to doing as yet! It was a hot day as i'd mentioned already, so knew it would be roasting in the butterfly house.. we bought some water and an iceblock each(me, Josh and Larnie) to keep cool, by this time my feet were starting hurt quite a bit(the shoes rub at each side of my feet(big toe and little toe), so was starting to feel a bit limpy but trying not to look so... so we get to the Museaum(just a few blocks away from town), sat down under the trees for a bit of shade and a refresh before going inside. So we go in and upstairs to find the Discovery World entrance and there's a charge(as this is a special exhibitions section, not the usual stuff which is free). We go in and see all the educational stuff first and then make our way to the entrance and it reminds us that it is going to be hot inside with the butterflies and there are educational things like videoes and displays about the areas where the butterflies come from(they are tropical and come from around the world). Well I was unprepared for how hot it did feel.. it's like bam instant heat...phew... but soooo amazing... what a gorgeous sight, there were several levels of rainforest, not a massive area and but pretty amazingly put together... there was a fabulous long drop waterfall, a few ponds with fish and turtles(in seperate areas) and the amazing butterflies.. wow, some were huge(well to be they were to me) I think the largest type they have is 13 to 17cm called a Common Birdwing and yes they did look like birds fluttering about... ohmygosh I gave never been to such a place before and was just taken in by it all.. I loved all the pretty butterflies just going around people, sometimes settling on people(I was divebombed by a pair), the colours were just gorgeous( a lot with varying black on them, but some had gorgeous crimson, some orange(like monarchs), irridescant blues and ultra-violets, bright yellows and all sorts), I traversed all levels, going in behind the waterfall was amazing as well as refreshing and you get some nice cooling spray from it. I was also amazed that butterflies could fly right through the waterfall as it looked like a heavy waterflow. You get a booklet with pics of the butterflies and tick ones you see, but I didn't do that, was more interested in gazing around. The heat was too much for Larnie, she had to leave and cool off. They also had an incubation room with lots of crystalis in there(you can't go in but you can see them at the windows(they also had a couple of other tropical beauties in glass boxes/cages, one was a Chilean Rose Tarantula(made me think of you Joules and Rosa) and a large bird eating tarantula(forgot it's name), glad we don't have such creepy crawlies around the countryside. It was so amazing I wanted to stay all day, but I was starting to sweat a lot, but I had to cross the fantastic glass swing bridge on the upper level.. it was scary and freaky and wobbly(but fairly safe) but still it freaked me to cross it as you can see below you and it's a fair way to drop.. finally I left to find Josh and Larnie sitting inside feeling rather wilted.. we went back to the educational part and there was lots of kids dashing around and whatnot and I just happened to get my feet trodden and danced on by a couple of wayward brats with no parents in site.. this did not help my sore foot situation, made me yell in pain...I was not happy... so we left the Museum and made our way back to the supermarket and it felt like an eon away(my feet were diabolical by this time). I was getting a taxi and no two ways about it... Larnie and I parted our ways as she had a couple of messages to do yet.. Josh and I went home... lovely day, but sheesh next time I need sensible shoes...
Also typical... no camera...
...next time.
Oh yeah, had a fall today(oh joy)(after dinner), was up on a chair taking something down from the ceiling and next minute I'm falling, trying to avoid the other chair and whatever else might be in my way. Smacked my leg and knee and a more personal area.. very very painfull.. my leg still hurts(most likely will bruise)I cried like a baby, becasue it hurt, but mostly because I got such a fright... I started to feel real tired later on after that and had a nana snooze of the couch. Felt like a right git!
That's my weekend done.. work tomorrow and a work meeting.. very exciting...
