5:38PM - Looks like this may end up being a weekly update. :)

Well, I had my stress test Tues. Haven't gotten the official results yet, but the nurse who did it said it look okay with nothing alarming showing up. I had a low blood sugar attack on the way home, which really sucked. A ton a cold sweats, nausea, weakness and I thought I was going to pass out. Horrible, horrible feeling. Thankfully Linda (MIL) was with me and made me drink a Coke and after about 10 minutes I felt better.

My weight this morning was 233.6. Down 1.4 pounds from last week. Not too shabby considering we ate out the majority of the time my FIL was here. I made pretty decent food choices I guess. :)

I'm starting to keep my food journal on fitday.com and by entering each thing I eat, I'm more in control.

Just getting ready to go to Wal-Mart. I'll update more when there's a reason to. LOL!

12:23PM - Yeah, yeah, I know

I haven't been updating. Haven't been on the treadmill either. :( But, things have been super crazy with work and we were trying to get the house ready for my father-in-law coming, so I was moving around a lot more than usual and I consider that progress.

Plus, Matthew brought home head lice from school. What a pain to try to get rid of. Not only did I have to do his hair numerous times (and give him a buzz cut), but we're talking stripping all the beds, washing all the sheets, pillowcases, blankets, comforters, shams AND pillows. Vaccuuming the mattresses, etc. UGH! THAT was exercise too. LOL!

My father-in-law came in on Weds. He's staying till Tuesday. He can't believe how much Matthew has grown. :) Matthew just LOVES having him here.

On the weight issue, I have been eating better despite going out to eat a lot with FIL. I'm down to 235, so that's 5 pounds since I posted last. Not too shabby if I do say so myself. :)

Gotta run and get some work done before Matthew gets out of school. Just felt like updating while I had a second.

Oh, I got my labwork back from the doc (can't remember if I posted this yet) and my cholesterol was down to 150!!! Haven't had it under 200 in close to 20 years. LOL! Still need to work on the triglycerides and HDL. Eating better will whip those into shape I hope, as will losing weight. My A1C, which is a 3-month measure of blood sugar was 5.6. Anything under 7 I believe is good. No diabetes.

As I posted before, I'm a bit paranoid of my family history of heart disease, so I talked my doc into ordering me a stress echo, which is a treadmill heart test with an echocardiogram. I think once I have that next week and it clears me, I'll feel much better about getting on the treadmill and doing more. I haven't told many people, but that's part of the reason I haven't done more. I'm scared I'm going to have a heart attack or something while on the treadmill. :( So, this test will ease my mind.

Okay, now I've really got to get to work. See ya!

11:17AM - Day 1 - On track so far. :)

Just finished up 15 minutes on the treadmill. 0 incline and 1.5 mph. I'm happy with that. :)

Oh, and I had just completed about 10 minutes when hubby came downstairs and gave me a morale booster. I couldn't stop then so I did another 5 minutes. :) Thanks honey!

10:15PM - New year, new me

Okay, so I might be dreaming or hoping or whatever, but I really want this to be the year that I get healthier. I'm not asking for a lot. To be able to go shopping and not get winded. To play with Matthew and not have to stop after 5 minutes. To clean the house and not have to rest between chores unless I want to, not because I HAVE to. I'm only 40 and feel like I'm 80. A FAT 80. We're planning on going to Vegas in June. Right now that thought scares me because if we did any amount of walking, I wouldn't be able to. It's gotten that bad. :-(

My goals (maybe if I have them out here for all the world to see, I'll finally follow through) for this week are to walk 5 minutes a day on the treadmill. Yes, I'm that out of shape that that is a BIG deal. Number 2 is to read more of Dr. Phil's Ultimate Weight Loss Solution. I bought it and the companion food guide today. And the third is to start making smarter food choices.

I'll try and post here daily on how I'm doing.

My starting weight is 240. My goal for Vegas is 200. That's 40 pounds in 23 weeks or a little less than 1.75 pounds a week. Totally doable if I improve my eating and keep up with my treadmill plans.

If anyone is reading this, PLEASE, post a note of support. Sure could use it. :)

11:21PM - Beach day!

Went to the beach with Jeannine and Andrew. We had a blast. I actually dunked completely, TWICE!! The water is COLD, but it felt nice. Got some good color and didn't burn this time, thank goodness. :-)

Came back to Cindy's house and got cleaned up. Went over to Jeannine's so the boys could play. Andrew was misbehaving a bit, so he got sent to his room and he was crying some. Matthew says "Andrew should stop crying. He's a big boy and big boys don't cry." Jeannine asked Matthew if he cries. Matthew replies, "No. Not usually. Usually I don't cry." LOL!

He also asked me on the way to the beach today what "yield" means. He read it on a highway sign. He was also reading the menuboard outside of "The Cupboard". The biggest one he could read? "pepperburger". Mind you, this is from a 5 1/2 year old that's supposedly of low intelligence. ROFLMAO!!

Cookout here tomorrow and big parade downtown. Haven't decided yet if I'm taking Matthew to the parade. He HATES loud noises and really is afraid to go. If it wasn't such a pain to leave those things in the middle, I'd take him and leave if I had to, but half the roads nearby are closed or blocked off. :-(

10:08PM - Not bad

Matthew had a lot of fun with the daycare kids. He mostly played with a little 4-year-old girl named Stephanie. there was another little girl, Alexis, who is 16 months. This kid blew me away. She talks and was saying numbers when playing with a little boy who was making the doors of a toy pop up and she'd smack them down while saying numbers. Really amazing for a kid that age. She knows the names of all the other kids.

Matthew and I took Norm to the grocery store, then to Comp USA. I got a little retractable travel mouse and a cell phone holder. We then went to Denny's for dinner. Then back to Cindy's. They were going out, so it was just Matthew and I. Matthew freaked when they left. He wanted to go with them. But he settled down soon enough and we had a decent, quiet evening. Got Matthew into bed early. He needed the extra rest.

Our tree bit the dust. We had some wind and the limb just slowly fell to the ground. A nice guy from the end of the court came over with a hacksaw and chopped it up so that Scott could get out of the driveway. We also found out that this poor tree is a walnut tree (or what's left of it.) Scott's got a tree guy coming next week to see what we can do with it.

9:58PM - Moving on

Decided to switch houses. Now staying with my cousin Cindy. Got our own room. 2 fans. Tv (but no cable), own bathroom. Lots of kids during the day for Matthew to play with. Cindy does daycare in her house. We'll sleep here tonight for the first time.

Went over Jeannine's house today. Matthew was just ecstatic over an accordian door she has on a closet in her living room. May have to get one of those there doors. LOL Matthew and Andrew had a BLAST playing together.

9:56PM - Fly away

Headed back to MA today. This travel day was a bit better, as there wasn't a 3 hour layover in Detroit. We had enough time to make the connection, without a lot of time to wait. Worked out good. I'm going to miss home though.

8:44PM - I lied

It's starting back up again. I LOVE summer storms. Just glad I'm not where my MIL is. Her power is out and a tree limb fell across the road just past her house, so no one beyond her can get out as she lives on a court too. This heat with no A/C must really bite.

8:39PM - Storm from nowhere

We just got hit with the storm from nowhere. It wasn't cloudy. No wind. As I'm sitting at the dining room table, I see a flash and then hear a BOOM!!! Next thing I know I can barely see the house 2 doors down. It was crazy. The tree in our front yard looks like it's split down the middle. :-( Matthew's little Cozy Coupe car rolled down the driveway and to the end of the court, bumping into the rear tire of a parked car. I asked my son if he has insurance and he said no. LOL!

Looks like it's easing up now, but it sure was a funky 10 minutes or so.

Current mood: enthralled

2:40PM - Ready, Set, GO!

Just getting ready to head back to MA. I got my hair cut today, it was driving me nuts, hanging in my face all the time. It's a bit too short right now, but it grows fast.

I have to say that I have a pretty damn good mother-in-law. She paid for my hair cut, bought Matthew and I lunch, AND gave me some money for the rest of the trip. :-) I was running kind of low and was wondering how I was going to do stuff when Penny and Jacqui got into town, but I should be all set now, as long as I'm not stupid with it. I also told her to go ahead and pick out a color to paint above the chair rail in my dining room while I'm gone. As I said before, she's got good taste so it's not going to be outrageous and I'm not picky anyway. I'll just be glad to have it done by the time I get home. :-)

I've got a headache and just want to sleep, but got more laundry to fold. :-(

7:40PM - Eval day

Well, we had Matthew's eval at the Child Evaluation Center and the end result is that he's PDD-NOS. His verbal IQ was 90 and non-verbal was 60 or something and combined it was 74. Basically, 90 is considered average, 60 is mentally "inadequate" and 74 is low intelligence. The psychologist did say that because of the high variance between verbal scores and non-verbal scores that the results are skewed and to not put a lot of stock in it. He did have trouble with visual-spatial skills, but we have to remember that he had eye surgery less than 2 months ago.

I asked her if Asperger's was a possibility and she said that it would be possible, but for the fact that he had a significant delay in talking, so it's ruled out.

She said we'd receive the written report in a few weeks and all their phone numbers are on it and we're free to call with any questions. You mean like why a child of "low intelligence" taught himself to read at the age of 5??

11:02PM - Damn obsessions

Yesterday after we got home from the airport, poor Matthew was having a major garage door attack. That's all he wanted to do. Most of the people I know in MA don't have garage doors, so he must have been going through withdrawal. It was pretty sad the way he was NEEDING to do it. Almost like a druggie getting his fix. :-(

Current mood: distressed

7:58PM - Is this kid 5 or 15?

We were all in the car coming back from lunch and I was talking about what we're going to do in the fall regarding his bus issue. They want him to take a "regular" bus, but I think if the ride is too long then it will be way too much commotion for him and make life more difficult. I had gotten a call last week from the JCPS saying that the school I want him in doesn't have a special needs bus. Well, we think that if he were the last one on in the morning and the first one dropped off in the afternoon that he would do okay, cause it's not that long of a ride. So anyway, we were discussing it in the car and as usual, he's got a hundred questions about it. I told him that he doesn't need to worry about it. Mom will take care of it. He says "But it's MY bus. I have to worry about it." *sigh* He's right of course. It IS his bus, but he doesn't need to worry about it. LOL

7:53PM - Forgot something else

He also had a handyman here and fixed the hole in the basement wall from where he had fallen, put a new toilet paper holder, and 2 towel racks in the big bathroom, fixed the drawer that kept falling when you opened it in the kitchen, and fixed the storm window in Matthew's room. He and his brother put Matthew's bed in the basement so that he (Scott) could sleep down there while I'm gone since it's lots cooler (I knew he was doing that). Since Matthew's room is basically empty now and we're going to get granny's double bed frame for Matthew, I picked out a color for paint for the room and it will get done while I'm gone again. I also told him and his mother to pick out a nice silk tree for the corner in the living room where the boxes had been stacked. She's got good taste (VERY good taste actually), so I have no qualms about that at all.

Darn nice house, if I do say so myself. :-)

5:28PM - Holy Crapola Batman

You should have seen my face when I came home last night! Scott had cleaned the ENTIRE house, with the exception of the basement where all Matthew's toys are. I mean, the living room had NO MORE boxes in it and you can sit on the couch. You can walk through it at night with no lights on and you won't trip on anything. The dining room and kitchen weren't too bad to begin with, but he cleaned off all the kitchen counters and the top of the microwave. The family room was done too. No more of Matthew's toys everywhere. No more my piles of crap everywhere. And the bedroom. All the clothes and stuff on the floor were gone. UNBELIEVABLE!! Haven't gone looking for anything yet, but he says he didn't throw out that much. Just consolidated the boxes and put them in the basement and garage. Now, if you can all say a little prayer that I can keep it this way. I like it, I really do, but it's not ME, so I'm going to need some help.

10:22PM - Leaving on a jet plane

We had to get up at 4:00 a.m. in order to get to the airport by 5:30 or so. Everything went fine in that respect. My little guy was quite funny when I woke him up. I usually wake him up when I go to bed so that he can go to the bathroom and not soak through his Pull-Up. Well, I woke him and he was peeing and he says, "After I pee, we're going back to bed, right?" "Nope, we're going to the airport." "But, it's still DARK." LOL

He did quite well on the planes. During the layover though, he asked an Amish (I think) woman if she would take him on the moving walkway. :-( I've stressed to him over and over we don't do stuff like that. I really wish I could find some way to get it into his head that things like that aren't safe. He just LOVES people and people are drawn to him like moths to a candle flame. I'm so SCARED that some day the wrong person is going to come across him.

I had bought a cheap reading comprehension book just to see how well he REALLY understood what was read to him. I read him a short story from it, and asked the questions that came after. He did really well considering that most of the time he was looking around at all the people and stuff that was going on. Instead of having him read the story, I read it to him. I then had him do an exercise that came with it of matching words to definitions. He read all of it and did good with that too. One smart bugger once you get him to pay attention. LOL

Murphy's Law at work: I get home and see my husband for the first time in 2 1/2 weeks. Guess what also shows up today. :-(

Okay, my eyes are closing. I'm exhausted. Going to bed now.

10:42PM - Beach day!

Kristin, Matthew and I went to the beach today. Man, it was gorgeous and made me realize why I love this area. 'Scept now I have a pretty decent sunburn on my chest, arms, shoulders and back. :-(

We're flying back home tomorrow for Matthew's evaluation on Monday. Excited about it and dreading it at the same time. Definitely dreading the plane ride and the 2 1/2 hour layover in Detroit. Luckily, Matthew's usually pretty good on the plane, he just gets bored and wants to talk to all the passengers. Plus, the plane leaves at 7:00 a.m., which means we have to leave here by 4:45 to get there by 5:30 at the latest, which means getting up before 4:15. YUCK!! Guess I should be in bed, huh?

2:50PM - From the Mouths of Babes

"Why do you think mommy is a good mommy?"

"Cause you lay with me. Cause you watch TV with me. Cause you wear pretty clothes. Cause you do things with me."

As for the pretty clothes..... Well, baggy t-shirts and athletic shorts? Short overalls and tank tops? Oh well, the kid is happy with it. :-)

11:13PM - Last day on the road

Woke up feeling refreshed. Norm had Matthew outside the room loading the car. Norm noticed that quite a few of the rooms had newspapers on the door handle, but not ours. He sent Matthew into the room and was about to take the paper off the door next door when Matthew turned around and saw him. He says, "That's not our door. That's not our paper. You can't take that." LOL Smart boy he is.

You try finding an exit for a pit stop in Hartford during rush hour. Not easy. No accidents although it was CLOSE!! Damn obsessions though. We had a major temper tantrum over Matthew not being able to play with the store room door of the convenience store though. :-(

We arrive in Gloucester about 7:00 p.m. I stop at Dragon Light for eggrolls and fried rice on the way to Norm's house and Meghan and Brent had to stop at Mike's for a pizza. Strange how the first thing you look for to find "home" again is food! The eggrolls and fried rice were as good as I remember. Bummer for Melanie though, cause she had made tuna casserole for everyone.
