AN: So this is what I've been working on these past months, in my scant spare time. I've always considered Freeport my best fic, if not the most approachable for casual readers. But I was still kinda learning back then, and the style was heavy at times (my exact thoughts, when I opened a chapter to check up a reference on anarchy I'd used, was 'The exclamation marks! They burns us!! They burns!'). I decided to fix it so I could reread it without wincing or rubbing my eyes. The storyline itself isn't changed, though some chapters and expositions have been tightened. Mainly it's for punctuation and readability. This is an LJ exclusive for the moment, as I want it all in one place for further corrections that readers might suggest. Later I'll disseminate it to the various archives (and won't that be a task...)

Ahhh, I just watched the first ep of Slayers Revolution and there were thirty one separate explosions.

I just learned (because I'm always the last to know these things) that 11 years after the last series of Slayers, Lina Inverse and crew ride again. I read a short article in Wiki while sparks fused out of my brainpan. The only words I can remember are 'Lina and Gourry', 'joined by Amelia and Zelgadis', and 'other confirmed characters are the returning Xellos'.

Someone plug me back in when that comes out subbed, kthxbye ^__^

Fairy tales.

Thinking about the above - and Squidlet going through a phase where the sound of my voice was needed as auditory backdrop to exploring and destroying the house - I started telling her my own tales. Then I then put them down on paper, because she won't get them for years yet. I thought someone might be interested in seeing the result.

The idea was to give these stories the feel of a fairy tale rather than a modern story. It's not medieval fantasy stuff, because I totally ignore the condition of women in those days and ages (that'd make for grim reading...) Beyond that, tropes are respected, because as much as it might make me grouse, young girls DO want the happy ending and the wedding and the romance . I know I did when I was young, and maybe I was being forced into the maiden-mother mold by a patriarchic society, but it hasn't done me any lasting harm. (Though I hope to write some more tales without the marriage trope one day...I'll see which ones she likes best, or if she'll even bother with mine or demand Cinderrella instead).

The story here is also more involved plot-wise than some fairytales, as is the language, but my mother read me Lord of the Rings when I was five, and it hasn't done me- well, actually, people who don't write weirdo fanfiction fantasy slash will probably say it DID harm me, but that's a matter of opinion.

So, here 'tis. I have others on the burner, will post them here if anyone's interested.

AN: I thought up this fic waaaaay back when I wrote Yalta, now I finally sat down and wrote it. This is situated in the Yalta story-line, three-four years after the Yalta fic itself and so six years after the end of the OP series. For those who haven't read Yalta, Kaku was seriously wounded by Zoro, resulting in a strong limp which forced him to retire from active duty. He ended up promoted Director of CP9 because he was the one person who could keep the others in line and tell Lucci off if the latter needed it.

Back from 2-week holiday in France. Stop. 8 hour jet-lag. Stop. Spawnlet pretty damn good but even a little bit of tetchiness in an airplane is too much alltogether. Stop. Am going to bed now. Stop. Might have ficcage in a week or so. Stop. G'night. Crashes.

This fic is for emeraldyuna, hinas_otaku and sasori_katana. It's not just dedicated to them, it's FOR them, as the only three people who are likely to enjoy it ^^; Aside from the crack addicts among you...You see, it's a Marco fic! For those of you who haven't had the surreal opportunity to meet him yet, Marco is the creation of emeraldyuna and hinas_otaku to try to get over their trauma at stumbling onto one (or several?) Japanese sites consistently putting Lucci in drag. Yeah, CP9's Lucci. In drag. With sequins and bitch boots and leather and feathers and sequins and a Mardis Gras outfit and yeah...Thus was Marco born, Lucci's cross-dressing cabaret act of a twin brother, because an explanation to such brain-bendiness had to be found. And then sasori_katana got the infection and wrote fics involving him and twenty-eight days later zombies invade London and I'm writing this.

I know that complaining about anime's treatment of women is like complaining that water's wet. God knows, I've learned to turn a blind eye to a lot that should set my feminist instincts to baying like a hound, because, well, I really like anime. And seeing some of the retards-with-tits in anime is no less cringeworthy than seeing some of those preachy and empowered token chicks in our culture's media.

( Breaking news: Feminist ODed on anime, revived in hospital by application of a few positive female characters. )

Now, back to watching Eyeshield 21 (they're FINALLY ending that fight against Seibu, bloody hell, even RL football don't last this long and that's including the Superbowl ads) and oh, incidentally, in case you were curious: Mal is holding down two jobs these days - the day job and the mommy job - and thriving on this regime, as it gives me the best of both worlds. Just...a lot of the best of both worlds ^^; My writing schedule is shot to hell (Veoh TV may have something to do with that too) but I should have a little piece o' CP9 crack to post this weekend, and other projects eventually.

Thank you all for your birthday wishes ^_^ Many of you hoped that office work wouldn't prove too arduous for me today. Well, it didn't, since Squidlet came down with a tummy bug last night and I spent the whole night+day mopping up, washing, playing (she's still full of beans, strangely enough), coaxing down fluids etc.

Happy birthday to meeeeeee, Happy birthday to meeeee (this is actually par for the course, I'm one of those people who frequently has crappy birthdays. This used to incense me, but I've become philosophical about it in my recent years, and simply do the celebration things two weeks ahead of time)

I needed another thing to spend my spare time on like I needed the business end of an icepick applied to my head, but, to make a long story short: after a good year and a half of holding out, I finally caved into my husband's demands for the latest in a long line of 'Uber Shiny Treasure of Geekery +3' and am now the proud co-owner of a PS3.
