8/20/08 11:18 am - Oh yeah, Bri-pie? Well this is how _I_ feel today!

8/18/08 09:53 pm

So... true story...

Olivia bought me a laserdisc player from a pawn shop for my birthday.
I've been trying since Saturday night to get it working... different universal remotes, scouring the internet for manuals, prowling around Pioneer/laserdisc message boards, SOMETHING that would help me get this thing working. It also plays CDs, with a 5-disc carousel. It played CDs just fine, but if I loaded in a laserdisc it would just whirr and ka-chunk until I power-cycled it and pried it back open so it would spit my disc back out. I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what could do, or maybe if the laserdisc mechanism was just, you know, broken. It happens. It's like a broken PS2 that'll play CDs and PS1 games but not DVDs or PS2 games. (Yeah, I have one like that.)

So after a couple hours of tinkering around with it tonight, I hit it. First on the right side, then on the top left.

Now it works fine.
...
I laughed really, really hard.

(Also, she got me a hardcover of the Secret Diary of Laura Palmer, which means nothing to any of you because none of you are Twin Peaks dorks. AAAAAHHHH!)

Well, it looks like my poor old laserdisc player finally bit the dust. It served me well, but I guess it's finally given me its $5 value. Gotta open it up to make sure there's not still a disc in there. I'm afraid there might be. Here's hoping it doesn't have a hole through it or something horrible. >_< (Did I ever tell you about my bad experience getting a CD stuck in the player of my old Buick? Well...)

If any of you guys see one for sale for, say, under 50 bucks, please let me know. There are plenty to be had on eBay, but these things are so heavy that shipping is a real bitch (more than the player itself, in many cases). If I was to get a decent one online I know it would be at least $50 after shipping, but I'm hoping I could find one locally for less.

FWIW, I updated Nerdgasm! today.

There is a pair of 40 x 30 Polo jeans in my house.
Having questioned the usual suspects, I still have no idea whose jeans they are.
Does anybody want to step up to claim them?

8/6/08 09:27 am - More videos

Utena music video - This Was Never Meant To Be
One of my favorite anime, and my favorite Sting song. Actually kind of an old video.

Snickers commercial
I guess this was a Super Bowl commercial a while back? Not the gay one (which was awesome, BTW).

Monsters From Mars - Toxic
Live cover of the Britney Spears song. This is actually pretty good.

Top 10 Joel-Era MST3K "WTF?!" Moments

I love #8, try to guess why. :P Also, #2 gives me flashbacks to 'Night of the Living Dorks'.

Nekromantix - Gargoyles Over Copehagen
I hadn't seen this since [info]yukihoshino  first showed it to me a couple years ago. It's... it's actually not a bad song.

Johnny Cash on the Muppet Show
He's singing 'Jackson' with Miss Piggy. There are no words for how awesome that is.

Johnny Cash as Elvis Presley
lol whut

Susan Ivanova/Talia Winters - "Memories"
This video makes me wanna cry. ;_;

Your result for Which Ghostbuster are you?...

Raymond Stanz

You are Ray. You know a ton about the occult and paranormal and have spent a long time researching it. Your energy when dealing with ghosts is very high and you find it hard to contain yourself during a new important discovery. You are the driving force of the Ghostbusters, since none of this probably would have happened without your constant enthusiasm and push.

Take Which Ghostbuster are you? at HelloQuizzy

-----

Sounds about right. If you've ever seen me hunting for paranormal phenomena, or even just talking about it, really, you know this is the case.
Strictly speaking, I tied for Egon and Ray, but it gave me Ray as the result. Makes sense, since Nene insists I'm like a horrible lovechild of Ray & Egon...

7/15/08 11:08 am - POOL'S CLOSED

I LOLed.
Also, fail @ reporting.

Rock-a-billy goat.

7/13/08 03:27 pm

I may be requiring bangs for my hair very soon.
I have never had bangs.
Does anybody have any advice on how to best do this on a low budget?

6/27/08 11:46 am

Actually, before I go - - is it wrong that this picture makes me incredibly turned on?

It's work-safe. I'm just weird.

6/24/08 05:46 pm

Meh. I though I had a great idea for a "Why so serious?" 'shop of Serious Cat, but apparently it's already been done. Found on photobucket.

6/23/08 04:05 pm

Man... Walter Koenig's work as Alfred Bester has totally ruined Pavel Chekov for me. I used to think Chekov was all lovable & stuff. Now I'm watching Generations and when Chekov's on screen I just want to yell "Aaaah! Nooo, Kirk! He's evil! Don't trust the Psi Corps!"

Fun fact: Alfred Bester was named after an actual sci-fi writer. I did not know that until today! Thanks, Wikipedia!

6/23/08 11:38 am - Hypothetical question

If a straight girl falls in love with me, but she still only dates men and her feelings towards other women (or her lack thereof) are unchanged... does that make her bi?

Discuss.

6/20/08 12:04 pm - Best AIM conversation today

[11:44] Me: Also, I dunno if you've already been there, but this site has some pretty neat articles: http://lifehacker.com/
[11:46] George: you going to ugly your bike?
[11:46] Me: was planning on doing that anyways XD
[11:48] George: ... because by default you are tacky?
[11:48] Me: Yes
[11:48] Me: It's a natural occurrence
[11:49] George: and you put tacky stickers on anything that sit around long enough for you to apply them?
[11:49] George: Mirrors, Cars, Fridges, Front Windows,
[11:49] Me: Exactly
[11:50] George: ... air bags covers
[11:50] George: stereos
[11:50] Me: I like the way you described that
[11:50] George: Monitors
[11:50] George: Record Players
[11:50] Me: I'm totally posting this to my LJ

LOL... he knows me too well. I bolded my favorite line.
(And if you haven't been to my house... no, he's not exaggerating. All those things have stickers on them.)

6/20/08 10:42 am - I have had this song stuck in my head for DAYS. I am absolutely in love with it.

I know you love me
I wanna wad you up into my life
Let’s roll up to be a single star in the sky

I hear you calling me
I wanna wad you up into my life
Let’s lump up to make a single star in the sky
To you, to you

I’m so in love with you
I wanna wad you up into my life
Let’s roll up to be a single star in the sky

I need you to feel me
I wanna wad you up into my life
Let’s lump up to make a single star in the sky
To you…

I know you love me
I wanna wad you up into my life
Let’s roll up to be a single star in the sky

I hear you calling me
I wanna wad you up into my life
Let’s lump up to make a single star in the sky
To you, oh to you

Yes, to you

6/14/08 03:45 pm - Interview from Rachael

I admire your love/care of animals...where did it start? Did your parents nurture it?
Oh yeah. My mom especially. We had tons of pets growing up (dogs, cats, iguanas, squirrels, birds, hermit crabs, turtles, hamsters, lizards... maybe a couple possums along the way... pretty much everything but fish!) and my mom would always take care of animals we found that were sick or injured... I guess I learned from a very early age that taking care of animals was the thing to do.

Was Rocky your first theatre-related experience?
Yeah, I actually think it was. I always wanted to get into drama in high school but I was too busy with the visual arts program. Rocky was my first time being on stage (aside from school or ballet recitals when I was a kid).

What was it like the first time you played Magenta?
Scary. :P And I missed the ring-around-the-lezzies scene... heh. But I felt great after it was all done. I had wanted to play Magenta ever since I first saw the movie (when I was 13 or 14), so I was so excited to get to finally do it. I'm trying to remember who my first Riff was; I think it was probably Steve (he's pretty much the ONLY Riff I remember from back then).

What if your favorite memory that we have shared?
Hmm... I think a couple of my favorites are Moulin Rouge and the Scottish highland games :D

Why do you like horror films so much???

Ooh... that's a good question. I think I like different ones for different reasons. It's really hard for a movie to scare me, so I like finding ones that actually get my blood rushing... some of them I like because I like to study how they did the makeup or special effects... some of them are just funny, either because they're badly done or because they've got a twisted sense of humor... and some of them appeal to the sort of primal, redneck part of my psyche that just wants to see how the next person is going to get butchered and then cheer like I'm at a football game. :P
