New Batman movie was pretty good. The Joker was fan-fucking-tastic, but I felt the plot lacked a bit of cohesion, need a bit more of a unified driving force behind it. Also, listing the Scarecrow as a villain because he's in one scene at the very beginning is bullshit.

Head is kinda in a bad place right now. Blah. Sleep now. Want to sleep late but work. =/

12:10 am - Random thoughts
Santa Barbara is only 81 miles away. For some reason I thought it was farther.

Involving money is the surest way to make people behave poorly.

I accidentally ran a red tonight. Didn't even see that it was there til I was almost through the intersection. There was no traffic, but still. Hoping there was no camera on that one.

I finally move into my real room tomorrow, as it is finally vacated. This is very cool. Kinda want to move my shit in now, but way too tired. Sign my lease for real tomorrow as well. $900 deposit is rape though.

I either got my first real hangover in about two years or a bit of food poisoning last night. I really couldn't say which.

Seriously, that deposit is raping me. Fuck.

First night actually living in LA last night. Pretty low key, as I was completely fucking exhausted (didn't finish packing the van until 6:30am, whoops). Went to a nearby bar for a celebratory beer and found that they had a band playing. Which turned out to be pretty decent. Was chatting with one of the new roomies about music between a song, and mentioned my deep and abiding love for ska, and that someday yes I will play ska band even though yes, I know ska is long past gone and only the RBF and LTJ are still making it, and what does the bar band play? Why, a ska song! One that was sadly lacking in horns, mind you, but definitively ska. Verily, sirs and ladies, it is a sign!

Aaaaaargghgh. Last day move out craziness. Also, what the fuck? Roommate chooses the LAST DAY to bitch about "so many messes that [he], [girlfriend] and [other roommate] have had to clean up all year". Uh, if it was that big of a problem, a) why the fuck didn't you say anything and b) please bitch, I've been cleaning up after your asses all year not to mention having to put up with your fucking noise all night because you're too oblivious / inconsiderate of the fact that there are zero walls and doors blocking noise from the living room, dining room and kitchen, even after I mention ever-so-politely to please shut the hell up.

But seriously. On the last fucking day? When I'm trying to move all my shit out and down to my new place 350 miles away? What the fuck?

Things to pick up once I hit LA:
  • At least one of my horns, likely the trumpet as slightly more bands are looking for trumpet players than french horn players.

  • swing dancing

  • parkour

Readygoreadygoreadygoreadygo.

Fuck I hate packing. I just want to be down there now. I think it might be time for a massive clearing out of "stuff". Clear out the closet, junk all of the junk I've accumulated, give up on all the old hardware I kept telling myself I'd find a use for but never did... I can pare this down a fair bit, I'd say. That actually sounds good.

"I used to wake up at 4 A.M. and start sneezing, sometimes for five hours. I tried to find out what sort of allergy I had but finally came to the conclusion that it must be an allergy to consciousness."
  - James Thurber

No Use For A Name has a new album out, The Feel Good Record Of The Year. Definitely one of my favorite punk rock bands. They can keep up the energy and play a melody without falling into the wangst that seems to have afflicted most of the punk that's come out in the past 5-7 years or so. This new album is no different. Granted, nothing immediately grabs me as an amazing, stand-out track, but I also immediately started it up again after I finished listening to it. A solid, highly listenable album. They've gotten a bit older (been around since '87, it's to be expected), and while you can hear it in the music, I'd say they've aged better than NOFX.

The drummer for NUFAN actually lives up the street the from my dad. In the winter he runs a plow business, clearing out driveways in the early morning after big snows. Truly, the life of the successful punk rocker is glamorous.

Holy shit I'm amazed I can actually write anything right now. I'll zone out for a few minutes (or some amount of time), then realize I'm typing and I've written a paragraph or two. Which, really, is good. 5.5 hours til it's due, and I'm at 3.3/9 pages. I really kinda wish I'd been able to fit even an hour or two of sleep time in in the past few days.

SHITTY, SIRS.

Kinda interesting though. When I do have some I am curious about what sort of effect prolonged sleep deprivation would have on me. Not much past 48 hours without, (though, granted, there was not much sleep in the preceding days either) and I get movement when looking at fractals that pop up on my screensaver. Quite curious. I know that hallucination does occur after extended periods without sleep, but this is the first I've noticed even minor things like that. Of course, that could also be in part to do with what is help me stay awake and writing.

CURIOUS, SIRS.

EDIT: 4:02AM 4.5 pages
EDIT: 5:05AM 5.001 pages. Slowing down. Tea isn't particularly helping, but am out of other caffeine substances. Moving around gets me going alright, but it's rather hard to write a paper while moving and sitting down again returns my whole body to jello.
EDIT: 5:15AM Wondering how much I'd get marked down if my final paper is 6-7 pages instead of the 9-10 it asks for...
EDIT: 6:20AM One line onto my 7th page. I might be able to get it up to 8ish, which was really what I was thinking it would end up at anyway.
EDIT: Uhh, at some point. I finished. I turned it in. Therefore I passed. Go me.

3:21 pm - Status Report
Phone interview one: Owned
Phone interview two: Friday, between 11am-12pm

BOOYA SUCKAS

Fucking low-balled myself again though. Wasn't aware quite the extent of housing prices down there. Well, when I make down there for the personal interview right before they hire me, I can work it out more then. It is kind sad when $45k is lowballing. =/

So I always post a lot more during high-stress, finals type times. Method of venting, stress release, etc. Usually it's pretty random crap I come across while studying, avoiding studying, or think of in sleep-dep induced mania. Let them come!

"The use of ADHD medication in children under the age of 6 has not been studied. Severe hallucinations may occur. ADHD symptoms include hyperactivity and difficulty holding still and following directions; these are also characteristics of a typical child under the age of 6." (Source)

I was highly amused. A common protest to dosing kids with ritalin/adderal/etc., but one that still amuses me. Tongue planted firmly in cheek, sir. Removal may be difficult.

... it's 3:30am and I've had around 7 or 8 hours of sleep in the past two days, and probably won't be sleeping more than an hour or two before Thursday afternoon. I might get a little silly.

Telephone interview tomorrow at 1pm for the Autism research company. Here's hoping it goes well! I'm kinda leaning towards finding something in the Bay Area these days, living with Parker would be so much crazy-insane-fun, but as an area I am still a bit more drawn south. Just because I've not spent as much time there and it's all completely new. Regardless! Back to work! Actually reading the textbook! Amazing! (Homework is ridiculously hard and due at 11:45pm tonight.)

Aaaaand I just woke up from a dream where I had terminal cancer, or some related terminal sickness. My initial response after fighting my way to consciousness and out of the dream? Disappointment over no longer having imminent death. I think it might be safe to say that finals stress is kicking in hard...

Woot! Got an email back for a job I applied to a few weeks ago and had given up on. Assistant database admin for an autism research company. Not my ideal sitting-in-a-lab-playing-with-things position, but should pay a hell of a lot better. They are looking for science people with database skills rather than pure database managers types, which was a bit intriguing. Time to bone up on my "How would you describe yourself?" and "What about this job inspires you?" type responses. Excited!

Also, it is in LA proper, not just a random suburb, or Irvine, or what-have-you. Which, to me, is really neat. Here's hoping!

2:34 pm - Midterms, whee!
Got my score back for my comp bio midterm. Originally out of 50, they adjusted for a curve and made it out of 100 total. (Basically making it a percentile trhing.) How did I do, you ask?

100/100

Fuck yeah.

3:54 am - My ears are still ringing
I saw these people tonight:

Dizzee Rascal was headlining, but El-P didn't finish his set til 1:15am, it likely would've been 20-30mins before Dizzee even went onstage and we all had things to do at ungodly hours of the morning (e.g., work/school at 8am). The show was awesome, even if the venue apparently has really shitty audio equipment. It actually made Busdriver cut his set short because it was fucking up so much, and there were constant mic issues for everyone. Still. Great show.

Time to get 2.5 hours of sleep and go to class!

3:10 am - From conversation, some few days ago
On the topic of wasting time on the internet:
Me: YouTube can be fun, but I still like Stumbleupon.
Robin: Stumble video, that's where it's at. You can search whole categories. If you want to watch nothing but cute videos of kittens, you can!
Me: haha Yeah, I bet there are bunch on there.
Robin: Over two hours! I get paid to sit on my ass all day, and one day I decided I wanted to watch kittens. I watched over two hours of them, they're just too cute!

So I got my first callback. Pretty neat job. Well, kinda okay job really. Anyway, I really need to come up with a spiel for "Tell us about yourself." The "Uh, I sent you a resume and a cover letter..." response doesn't seem much of a winner. I rambled for a minute or two. Overall the thing went okay, but they called me right as I was getting out of class so I was a bit off balance. I should hear back from them regarding whether or not I'll get a for-real interview by the end of next week. It's a possibility, but not really holding my breath. Still. First callback! Woo! Now have a semi-awkward phone interview to work from and adjust my tactics towards in the future! Woo!

Also, it is WAY too hot right now.
