[Mar. 24th, 2006|07:43 am] |
So, I was looking at Wikipedia, and found this alternate language site: http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
Apparently, it's simple English. They claim the target audience is people who do not speak English as a primary language, but I think it's also targeted at "slow" wikipedians, specifically after reading about how even some pictures were "too complicated."
Enjoy. |

[Jun. 14th, 2005|07:59 pm] |
General Update:
I have not updated in a while. Here is what has been going on:
I graduated from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology with a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science.
I accepted a job with United Space Alliance in Houston, Texas.
I am getting married on Saturday to Amber.
We are moving on the 23rd and I start work on the 27th.
My e-mail address is firstname (dot) lastname (at) gmail (dot) com (replace firstname and lastname with my First Name and Last Name).
My wedding registry list is at Bed Bath and Beyond. Gifts are greatly appreciated.
If you did not get invited to the wedding, and wish you were, e-mail me, or something. If you're cool, I'll tell you where and when it is.
Also: Amber is so beautiful.
Furthermore:
That last bit did not quite do justice to who Amber is to me, so I shall elaborate.
Amber is the most wonderful thing to happen to me for quite some time (maybe even as long as I can remember). I am so glad to have met her as she has revolutionized my life.
I remember when we first met at the BBT all-nighter, passing like ships in the night, and then how we met formerly at the mall the following weekend. I remember liking her immediately, as we found so much in common and laughed at the same things, like John Thefyeguy. I remember falling in love with her as I returned to school, but not allowing myself to come clean with said feelings until getting to spend more time with her. I remember watching movies with her: Fight Club and Dangerous Lives of Altarboys. Asking her out ever so timidly, and hinting that I would like to kiss her. I recall her coming to see me perform in Damn Yankees, how we got to spend time together, kissing each other in my dorm room. I remember the wonderful summers we had together, and how I still thought she was beautiful even after she had her wisdom teeth removed. I remember how hard it was to go back to school every September, and how joyful I was to return home every summer and every break. This last break especially: Graduation Break. From now on, every time I have to go somewhere, I know it's possible for Amber to come too, how we never need to be apart ever again. This is good for two (at least) reasons: firstly, Amber has my heart. Without such, I am a cold, emotionless iceburg. Secondly, I have Amber's brain. (It's okay, she laughed at that). Thirdly, well, we'll be together.
These facts and more make me glad that come this saturday, I will be less of a single person, and more of a unity between two. I will be husband to my beautiful wife, Amber, and we shall live happily ever after.
The End....

Slant rhyme, I guess.

The earwax flavored one (aka, the ginger flavored one) seems to have triggered a desire in my to forcefully vomit.
I hear that there are worse flavors.
Comic Book News:
"They seemed to believe that the head of 20th Century Fox called me up and persuaded me to steal this screenplay, turning it into a comic book which they could then adapt back into a movie, to camouflage petty larceny." This led to Moore giving a ten-hour deposition - he believes he'd have suffered less if he'd "sodomised and murdered a busload of children after giving them heroin."

Also:
Got an IM from someone saying--
check this out, is that you?
Where the "this" was a link to a site. The link redirected me to a file download called somethingsomething.jpg.exe. Clearly a virus.
So, I internic'ed the site, and found this about the owner--
Registrant: Dominique Haesevoets nick@tech-nick.be 31596-633665 Dominique Haesevoets Berkstraat 7 Diest,na,Belgium 3290
Really has nothing to do with anything, just curious. The www prefix page mentions that his site contains funny stuff. The photo prefix page contains a bunch of gz's and zips. Very interesting.
So, if you sent me that message (you should know who you are), and you read this blog (which I doubt you do), get a virus scanner on your computer stat.
Musing on Fantasy:
So, ignoring for the moment that Lord of the Rings exists, what's the deal with modern fantasy movies? Have they become less popular? It seems that all the great fantasy flicks were made during the mid 80's and early 90's, or I am biased that way due to formative reasons. (I understand that there is Harry Potter, among a tiny number of recent fantasy releases)
No, LotR exits. Does this mean that other potential fantasy films are daunted by this film, having to overcome its epic proportions?
I think not. In fact, I think that within the next ten years, we'll be swamped with fantasy films. This will be the next big thing (kinda like epic battle films which were big the past few years). Granted, I would be saying this even if I didn't know about all the business with buying book rights to various fantasy authors (Tolkien, Lewis, White, to name a few).
They will be nothing like the fantasy films I grew up enjoying, but surely, they will be worth my time.

CSI came on at 8 o'clock. I turned on CBS and got the last bit of Entertainment Tonight, and immediately after the end credits ran, the television screen turned blue. I flipped to other channels and saw that ALL THE OTHER CHANNELS WERE NOT BLUE!
Apparently, this was just on the east side of New Apts, as the west side got their Tarantino fix.
Le Sigh.
I'll see it eventually.
Tomorrow is Muppets. Maybe I'll lose ABC from 7-9 tomorrow. Hehe.
Also:
Working on a writing project. I hope it works out well. I'm totally neglecting the fact that the audience reading might feel that my killing off of characters is sad or bad or *ad. We'll see.
If it gets published, I'll donate a copies to the HSS profs, or something, 'cause they helped me be a better writer. |

A New Low:
I have a Hershey's Milk Chocolate bar with Almonds, and, I kid you not, on the package, it says "Lift & Pull Here" and below the bit of wrapper upon which that is printed is a big circle that says "Hold Here."
I don't know about you, but this really, really helps me with my candy bar opening skills. Previously, I would gnaw on the wrapper until I tasted chocolate, then gnaw some more until the flavor stopped. |

| | Yoko Ono - Walking On Thin Ice (Peter Rauhofer Mix) | ] | The Game:
I was reading "Player Piano" and I saw mention of a game for to swindle people out of money.
There are three rows of "things," one row has cardinality three, the next five, the next seven. Players take turns removing "things," and the one who picks up the last "thing" loses.
On a turn, a player may take one "thing" to n "things" (where n is the number of elements left in the row from which the player is taking "things").
A board might look like:
{* * *} {* * * * *} {* * * * * * *}
I have three goals:
- Implement a GUI to play the game
- Perfect my 1337 skills at this game
- Make an AI to play it
Then I can build a robot to play the game, and swindle people out of money at bars. Huzzah.
Phat Strat:
Get it to be your turn with only one row left. This involves forcing the opponent to take the last element of another row, which stems from the opponent have to take the last element from the other row (loosely).
Argh:
From IMDb--
We have not been able to add this title because the information currently available suggests its context is too local to be of "general public interest".
Solution:
Film Club needs to hit up the big film festivals. |
