New findings

October 13th, 2008 (12:21 pm)
busy

current location: work
current mood: busy
currently listening to: Britney- Break the Ice

So I'm really into a few new (old though) things this past week or so.

1) Heroes - Ok so I know this came out in 2006 or whatever but I just finished watching the entire Series 1 on DVD this week- I wanted to see what all the fuss was about and I am so glad I did! I loved it so much! So I'm gonna borrow Series 2 from my friend asap, I can't wait to find out what happens... :) JD loved it too! Guess who my fave character is?

2) Twilight by Stephenie Meyer- Vampire book, a lot of hype here too but it's lived up to its name so far. There's gonna be a movie version coming out at Christmas with the actor who plays Cedric Diggory- he's playing Edward the Vampire :) woo! Im excited for that!

3) The Myriad- a great indie band that recently toured with Eisley- the missing link between Muse and Radiohead if you will. So good.
Abby- I'm making you a mix cd and there will be some songs of theirs on it for you :)

Other than this shiz, I'm keeping busy with work and life- I'm directing a play after new year but enjoying my break before then. I am also the new Artistic Chairperson at the Barton Green Theatre, which means I get to plan the artistic programme and plays for the year :) I'm excited. Can't wait to go home at the end of next month for Thanksgiving. I'm looking forward to it so much!!!

Ani Does It Again

October 3rd, 2008 (10:30 am)
cheerful

current location: work
current mood: cheerful
currently listening to: Ani Difranco- Smiling Underneath

I just got Ani's new cd- Red Letter Year, and I'm listening to it right now at work. It's so much more modern/new sounding, with loads more electric guitar and new instruments- but still the same Ani- she's so amazing. As she evolves, it's beautiful. Get it get it get it! There's a track about her new daughter too, Present/Infant- it's pure awesome.

So life...lately- it's been good & busy. It's gotten really cold here all of a sudden. So after an almost non-existent summer we move right into winter again. I'm saving money for a new winter wardrobe. Going home 6 weeks from tomorrow for Thanksgiving! Yeay! I can't wait!!! Family, friends and good times <3 Oh to be back home!

I've read a lot of books and plays- now I'm reading Without You: A Memoir of Love, Loss and The Musical Rent by Anthony Rapp. It's amazing. You should all go out and get that too.

It's Friday and I'm happy it's the weekend tomorrow- we're going out for dinner, gonna snuggle and watch movies.

Peace.

today

thoughtful

current location: where I was on 9.11
current mood: thoughtful

yes,
us people are just poems
we're 90% metaphor
with a leanness of meaning
approaching hyper-distillation
and once upon a time
we were moonshine
rushing down the throat of a giraffe
yes, rushing down the long hallway
despite what the p.a. announcement says
yes, rushing down the long stairs
with the whiskey of eternity
fermented and distilled
to eighteen minutes
burning down our throats
down the hall
down the stairs
in a building so tall
that it will always be there
yes, it's part of a pair
there on the bow of noah's ark
the most prestigious couple
just kickin back parked
against a perfectly blue sky
on a morning beatific
in its indian summer breeze
on the day that america
fell to its knees
after strutting around for a century
without saying thank you
or please

and the shock was subsonic
and the smoke was deafening
between the setup and the punch line
cuz we were all on time for work that day
we all boarded that plane for to fly
and then while the fires were raging
we all climbed up on the windowsill
and then we all held hands
and jumped into the sky

and every borough looked up when it heard the first blast
and then every dumb action movie was summarily surpassed
and the exodus uptown by foot and motorcar
looked more like war than anything i've seen so far
so far
so far
so fierce and ingenious
a poetic specter so far gone
that every jackass newscaster was struck dumb and stumbling
over 'oh my god' and 'this is unbelievable' and on and on
and i'll tell you what, while we're at it
you can keep the pentagon
keep the propaganda
keep each and every tv
that's been trying to convince me
to participate
in some prep school punk's plan to perpetuate retribution
perpetuate retribution
even as the blue toxic smoke of our lesson in retribution
is still hanging in the air
and there's ash on our shoes
and there's ash in our hair
and there's a fine silt on every mantle
from hell's kitchen to brooklyn
and the streets are full of stories
sudden twists and near misses
and soon every open bar is crammed to the rafters
with tales of narrowly averted disasters
and the whiskey is flowin
like never before
as all over the country
folks just shake their heads
and pour

so here's a toast to all the folks who live in palestine
afghanistan
iraq

el salvador

here's a toast to the folks living on the pine ridge reservation
under the stone cold gaze of mt. rushmore

here's a toast to all those nurses and doctors
who daily provide women with a choice
who stand down a threat the size of oklahoma city
just to listen to a young woman's voice

here's a toast to all the folks on death row right now
awaiting the executioner's guillotine
who are shackled there with dread and can only escape into their heads
to find peace in the form of a dream

cuz take away our playstations
and we are a third world nation
under the thumb of some blue blood royal son
who stole the oval office and that phony election
i mean
it don't take a weatherman
to look around and see the weather
jeb said he'd deliver florida, folks
and boy did he ever

and we hold these truths to be self evident:
#1 george w. bush is not president
#2 america is not a true democracy
#3 the media is not fooling me
cuz i am a poem heeding hyper-distillation
i've got no room for a lie so verbose
i'm looking out over my whole human family
and i'm raising my glass in a toast

here's to our last drink of fossil fuels
let us vow to get off of this sauce
shoo away the swarms of commuter planes
and find that train ticket we lost
cuz once upon a time the line followed the river
and peeked into all the backyards
and the laundry was waving
the graffiti was teasing us
from brick walls and bridges
we were rolling over ridges
through valleys
under stars
i dream of touring like duke ellington
in my own railroad car
i dream of waiting on the tall blonde wooden benches
in a grand station aglow with grace
and then standing out on the platform
and feeling the air on my face

give back the night its distant whistle
give the darkness back its soul
give the big oil companies the finger finally
and relearn how to rock-n-roll
yes, the lessons are all around us and a change is waiting there
so it's time to pick through the rubble, clean the streets
and clear the air
get our government to pull its big dick out of the sand
of someone else's desert
put it back in its pants
and quit the hypocritical chants of
freedom forever

cuz when one lone phone rang
in two thousand and one
at ten after nine
on nine one one
which is the number we all called
when that lone phone rang right off the wall
right off our desk and down the long hall
down the long stairs
in a building so tall
that the whole world turned
just to watch it fall

and while we're at it
remember the first time around?
the bomb?
the ryder truck?
the parking garage?
the princess that didn't even feel the pea?
remember joking around in our apartment on avenue D?

can you imagine how many paper coffee cups would have to change their design
following a fantastical reversal of the new york skyline?!

it was a joke, of course
it was a joke
at the time
and that was just a few years ago
so let the record show
that the FBI was all over that case
that the plot was obvious and in everybody's face
and scoping that scene
religiously
the CIA
or is it KGB?
committing countless crimes against humanity
with this kind of eventuality
as its excuse
for abuse after expensive abuse
and it didn't have a clue
look, another window to see through
way up here
on the 104th floor
look
another key
another door
10% literal
90% metaphor
3000 some poems disguised as people
on an almost too perfect day
should be more than pawns
in some asshole's passion play
so now it's your job
and it's my job
to make it that way
to make sure they didn't die in vain
sshhhhhh....
baby listen
hear the train?

London life is the same... It feels like autumn/winter already, I can't believe it. Work is work, bleh...but the good news is I'll get paid more this month with the new bonus and tax payment. I watched episode 1 of season 2 of the hills last night <3... JD and me are good as always and can't wait to go back to FL for thanksgiving, I miss my family loads. I also watched "Grey Gardens" the documentary by the Maysels brothers in 1975 about Big Edie and Little Edie Bouvier Beale (aunt and 1st cousin of Jackie Onassis Kennedy) living in a dilapidated mansion in the East Hamptons over run with cats, raccoons and filth. OMG it was awesome, a total cult classic. If you haven't seen it I recommend it. You can also watch the entire film on youtube.com. They made a musical of Grey Gardens in 2007, starring Mary Louise Wilson and Christine Ebersole. It looks amazing, I wish I could have seen it with the original cast. Hopefully it will come to London one day....I'm kind of obsessed with it at the moment.

1975 Documentary                           The musical starring Christine Ebersole

I'm also reading the sequel to Wicked, Son of a Witch. It is good so far, but I hope it gets better.

Other than the normal stuff, life is alright. It's Lucy and Tom's leaving do this weekend- they're off to New Zealand for one year... oh and I've also started help write the Fairy Tales play at The Green, which is going well so far. Dunno about auditioning though, we'll see. More later xx

The weekend was good but weird. We went to the Arsenal game on Saturday, which was fun because we had a pub lunch and Arsenal won 3-0. We got Starbucks on the way home too, which was awesome. My man got me a caramel cream frappuccino yum. Sunday was kinda uneventful- our fridge broke so we got a new one but it's too big and doesn't fit under our counter. So we're using it but out of our small bedroom- we're supposed to get this all taken care of soon but it's really annoying nonetheless. We watched Shooter last night, which I really enjoyed. Mark Wahlberg is a good actor, even if he is your basic meat head... I got paid last week, but once again the fruits of my labor are short lived- bills, food, presents for turkey day, and rent ate most of my paycheck. I'm reading Rant by Chuck Palahniuk at the moment, and it's really good! I talked to my sister last night before I went to sleep and it was nice. I miss her.

Til next time <3

Sucky weather this week. It's been gloomy ever since we got back from Vegas. Life is ok at the moment, not too shabby. I tried a roast chicken & bacon sandwich from Boots last week and it rocked my world, so I got another one today.

I'm really bored...so the US won a lot of gold medals thanks to Michael Phelps...

Oh yeah! JD and I are planning a massive RV road trip of the states when we move there. We're going to rent an RV for a whole month and go all over the US on various routes. It's going to be freaking wicked. Highlights include: Colonial Williamsburg, Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory, The Mall of America, Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park, and Yosemite National Park. I'm really excited and can't wait for that. But we need $. Lots of it. So I better get savin.

Welp...that's all the news here. Later.

So I got stung by a wasp this morning while waiting for the bus. It crawled up my pant leg and stung me on the inside of my leg- right where the knee bends. It still freakin hurts...I got some cream though, so hey. What a start to the day...Also, Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince film release date has been pushed back to January 2009, dang. I am glad it is Friday- only an hour and 10 minutes left of work. Sweet.

So I'm back from my vacation. It was awesome. John met the parents and he did splendidly! They loved him to pieces :) Las Vegas was so much better this time around since I could drink and play the games hee hee. John ended up winning about $170.00 total from playing the slot machines! On my birthday night we went to see the Cirque du Soleil show "O". It was amazing, it is truly the best show I have ever seen in my life- I loved it! This is a pic of the hotel we stayed at, The Excalibur

I also got my US Starbucks fix with these

We went to the Grand Canyon too! It was amazing and so massive! Check out my facebook for all the photos from my trip but here are a few random ones.

1. Me and JD at the GC
2. Me and JD at The Flamingo hotel & casino
3. My mom and JD playing The Wizard of Oz slot machine

It's ok to be back but I'm really homesick this time. I'm really glad Thanksgiving is only just over three months away :) We both can't wait for that! I'm back at work now and it sucks as ever! The good thing is though that the new bonus scheme is in effect and they are also offering flexi-time to leave 1/2 hr early every day and take a 1/2 hr lunch provided you hit your target for the preceding month. Wahoo!

Hello world,
This weekend was very very hot in England. We saw The Dark Knight on Saturday- I really liked it and loved Heath Ledger's character as The Joker- very cool indeed. I also watched a lot of films at my flat- Casablanca, Wild Hogs, The Andromeda Strain, and Gone with the Wind (half of it, need to finish). We're off to Vegas on Friday early morning, woo hoo! It's finally almost here! I have a half-day on Thursday to shop and sort my money out and stuff. I'm so psyched! I got £50.00 from the in-laws for my up-coming birthday, SCORE.

SO yeah, life is ok at the moment. I was offered an interview for a secretary job in Kingston but turns out I can't make the interview and they won't re-schedule it. Dang. Hopefully something else will come along soon! I'm reading The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks at the moment, it's really creepy and good. Read it!

I'll update this thing when I get back or something- everyone take care and be good!

I am sick of being sick. I need to see an herbalist or acupuncturist...or I dunno, something. Over the counter crap doesn't work for me anymore and I don't like going to get antibiotics if I can help it. I just hate this feeling- like a slug and being sick. Whine whine whine, moan moan moan. I want my blankee.
