After regularly reading requests for feminist book recommendations I've decided to create a community for that very purpose. The Feminist Library is a community in which members can recommend books to others. With the use of the tags and memory feature it is hoped that it will eventually provide a resource to the countless requests for book recommendations on feminist sites. Books do not have to be explicitly feminist, just be of interest to some one with 'feminist ethics.' By this we mean it may have a strong female role model, show gay families in a positive light, include strong characters of colour (not just token references) or positively present children doing things that are gender non conformist. This community was mainly set up for people looking for books for their children and teenagers who were disappointed with many of the themes and messages in the books aimed at those age groups. However it is open to books aimed at any age group. Both Fiction and Non-Fiction can be posted as long as they have a feminist message and are tagged correctly. This is not a place to request a certain type of book. You can do so at communities like Edited to add: This community is not supposed to tread on the toes of the library thing, LJ Feminist site, simply to provide an alternative. Or, not. ( Cut for piccie ) That's a Frazetta sketchbook... I considered about getting Testament, but this was a special offer and besides, sketches-doodles-concept art FTW. There's stuff I've never seen before and that I wish he turned into full paintings... Who knows, perhaps he did and I just don't know, lol. The man has painted so much. But also - and those of you who dabble in art making might understand my squee at NEW DRAWING TOOLS ZOMG - a Pentel brush pen and its brother, the Aquash! The brush pen, in case you don't know, works pretty much like a fountain pen, only it has a brushlike tip. The Aquash follows pretty much the same concept, only you can fill its barrel with either water or any other liquid medium - although I've been told that India ink might be too thick and get stuck in. It's very clever because, in case you want to do some watercoloring around, you just bring your colors and the water comes with the brush. Idem for the classic brush pen... I often suffer for the lack of proper inking tool when I doodle away from home, lol. So, this is my first tryout sketch, on a Moleskine page. It sucks of course, but mostly because I haven't practiced inking for too long. ( Norwegian wood ) ZOMG it's so hot in this room today. I should... work. And make myself some coffe. Jesus.lizhand, posting in theinferior4 @ : Julian Barnes on Penelope Fitzgerald http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2008/jul/2Novels are like cities: some are organised and laid out with the colour-coded clarity of public transport maps, with each chapter marking a progress from one station to the next, until all the characters have been successfully carried to their thematic terminus. Others, the subtler, wiser ones, offer no such immediately readable route-maps. Instead of a journey through the city, they throw you into the city itself, and life itself: you are expected to find your own way. kristenmagoo @ : Me! Engaged Idealists are extroverted and helpful. Others find them to be very congenial and inspiring - especially as they are always willing to see the best in the other person. Their humour, their energy and their optimism attract other people. Engaged Idealists are very good at communicating and are good at convincing and firing on others. That is why it is a matter of course that they often take over the leading role in groups. This personality type often produces very charismatic persons. Engaged Idealists have an unusually strong ability to empathise. They are tolerant and generous towards others; they sometimes tend to idealise their friends. They always try to suit everybody and want their relationships to be harmonious and satisfactory. To achieve this, they are prepared to invest a great deal and to put their requirements last. As Engaged Idealists are very considerate, there is the danger of them sacrificing and overexerting themselves for others. In their job, they therefore have to be very careful not to develop a burnout syndrome. Engaged Idealists are reliable, well organised and love structuring complicated situations. They have difficulty accepting criticism; they quickly feel hurt and misunderstood. Their perfectionism also influences their love life - they look for the perfect relationship for life. Once they have made their decision, they are faithful, well-balanced and loving partners. However, should they get involved with the wrong person, it can happen that they allow themselves to be exploited for a long time before they end the relationship.
