| | The Organ | ] | Is everyone else having as craptastic a year as we are?? Not just us, but everyone we know is having the worst year ever. And I don't mean a 'my car broke down' kind of year, but a 'someone else is dying?'' kind of year.
Things are starting to turn around though *fingers crossed* which means that we're back in the studio.... Expect lots of sad songs. :) |

| | Crashing - Heart Beats Broken - Lipkandy | ] | Someone asked me recently, why we give away songs online. They seemed to be really concerned about the people who bought CDs, like we are cheating them, giving away something they've already bought. And, of course, that we're cheating ourselves by giving something away for free.
So, here's the deal: the songs online are heavily compressed into mp3 format. They're not the same quality as the CD. Sorry, but we have bandwidth limits. Also, when you buy a CD, you're doing more than buying a plastic disc with music on it, you're supporting a struggling, brokeass indie band. This isn't free. Guitars, amps, web servers, and recording equipment cost money. When you buy a CD, you're actually helping to pay for the next album. You're investing in lipkandy. :) |

Or you can download it straight from here if you want. The song is equation from our last album, Heart Beats Broken.
Also, some fuckwit hacked our guestbook and deleted it all, if you're wondering where your tag went (not to mention the hundreds of others).

Did you vote? |
|
|
| |
[Oct. 30th, 2004|03:52 pm] |
Okay, this election has made me a nervous wreck. Really. I can't sleep. Our music isn't exactly political, so I thought I'd get political in the journal because this really is the most important election of our lifetime. Here are a few resources for Americans of voting age:
People for the American Way - a progressive resource for the pro-choice, pro-environment majority.
Election Protection - a great resource for all the voting info you need: where your precinct is, where the fraud and voter suppression hotspots are and even tips on how to make sure your vote is counted. There is also an 800 number you can call if you see evidence of voter suppression.
Download Fahrenheit 9/11 here . An incredibly generous guy is paying thousands of dollars to host this movie so that the rest of us can download it (and the truth) for free.
If you live in California, check out Paper or Plastic to learn about your rights regarding those wonky electronic voting machines.
Know your rights! The Democratic National Party has Voter Bill of Rights for every state.
Also, we highly recommend The Daily Show on Comedy Central. How ironic that the only place for legitimate news in America is a comedy show. Or maybe it isn't so ironic since all of our media outlets are owned by giant corporations.
Don't be owned! Know your rights and use your voice, people. If they try to shut you up, yell louder and to the right people. This is our country, we are the majority and it's about time we take it back!! :)
Also, in actual lipkandy news, we're still recording and working on a show in Lousiville in November so stay tuned... |

| banazan!!! |
[Sep. 10th, 2004|02:04 am] |
I don't think we've gushed enough about Banazan Records. We've dealt with a lot of indie labels in the past and we're just in love with Ruby and banazan. She releases some truly wonderful music. The stuff you can't get out of your head. The songs you put on mix CDs for that girl or boy you're interested. Songs you listen to over and over again. Luscious indie pop loveliness... with substance. |

| review me, baby |
[Sep. 8th, 2004|01:26 am] |
we've been reviewed at girlpunk and it's a good review and we're very thankful they took the time to listen and write the veryt well-written review, it's just...sometimes I wonder what album they're listening to.
I know it's the arbitrary world of opinion. everyone finds something different in our songs. And this reviewer seemed to concentrate on the 'high school' references, which is kinda odd since there really aren't that many. hmmm, guess I'll never figure it out. at least she liked it. really liked it apparently. :)
although, 'self-identified lesbians'?? *checks wallet for ID, nope no lesbian ID in there* why did that have to be in the review?? maybe they're trying to subtley warn their few narrow-minded readers that we might mention a girl every once in a while? maybe I'm paranoid. :) |

| the coolest gigs in louisville |
[Aug. 2nd, 2004|08:18 pm] |
so, I don't think I said anything about Salena and her valiant attempts to make some sort of scene in Louisville. the chick is unbelievable! she's honest, incredibly nice, cool and she works her ass off for the bands she books. plus, she plays the hell out of just about any instrument you can think of including bass for her band, venus trap.
salena also sets up shows around Louisville for queer-friendly and grrrl bands. anyone on tour who fits this description should let me know and I'll put you in touch with her (I don't want to post her email addy here). she really is the bee's knees. |

| new songs! |
[Jul. 18th, 2004|12:49 am] |
we're getting ready to record again right now, which for some reason involves lots of beer and antibiotics for Jonathan and lots of antihistamines for the Melissas. hmmm, could have something to do with the fact that it rains every fucking day here!!! when did the climate shift and the southeast get shipped to the pacific northwest?
also, melissas are working very hard re-mastering early stuff. I'm typing this because MANY lovely people have emailed and asked about it and I'm not sure we responded to all of you. you wouldn't believe the amount of spam we get, so if your email subject was something that could be interpreted as a sales pitch...sorry.
today I'm listening to: the new Traci + the Plastics and our new songs. people need to get the new Traci +the Plastics album because it's lovely and strange. |

| no pride |
[Jul. 2nd, 2004|11:39 am] |
also, we got heckled at Pride. Pride!!! we've played some of the straightest, whitebread clubs and bars on the planet and never been heckled or even sneered at, but we play a Pride Picnic for free and get heckled by two redneck rasta wannabes. it was surreal. they kept telling us to get off the stage or play some reggae. reggae, people!!! until Melissa S. threatened to play thrashpunk and death metal solos for three hours. that shut them up.
everyone else was incredibly nice especially Dean, Chris and friends who skipped up to us after the show and were all shy and sweet about the set.
note to selves: never play an outdoor show again without TONS of sunscreen...and maybe a tent. or just never play an outdoor show again. lipkandy just doesn't tan. burn, baby, burn! |

we've been asked to play some acoustic shows -- no, not completely unplugged, that would just be *shudders* so wrong -- just a softer, gentler sort of lipkandy. it's kind of odd, 'cause we're really not that kind of girl...I mean, band. or something. although, long way and dear you sound pretty wild and sad all slowed down and re-arranged. hmmm, does this mean a side project is in the works?? |
|

| The Dame |
[Jun. 23rd, 2004|12:43 am] |
incredible show!! really. the other bands (ulysses and Big Fresh) were fun and wonderful to play with. all of us play very different brands of pop (lipkandy being at the very hard edge), so it was an eclectic mix.
also, The Dame is run by some really incredible guys who actually care about music. all you bands out there, if you get a chance to play lexington, try The Dame.
we've avoided playing lexington for years (mainly because the scene was ridiculously sexist for a long time) and were a tad pessimistic about the show, but it was a total fucking blast. plus...fun-as-hell after party with the other bands: Nick (Dame publicist extraordinaire), Jeremy, John, Ben, Robert (I wanna call your satellite down), (Uncle) Bill, Cole, Haviland (so pretty in pink), Vanessa (the Contessa), Max (roadie extraordinaire), Marcy..it's all a blur. wait a minute, how did we end up partying with so many guys???
( check out the evidence ) |

[Jun. 4th, 2004|08:13 pm] |
so we've gotten a lot of emails asking about jonathan, so there's a pic under the cut. not good enough for ya? guess you'll just have to come check him out at one of our gigs. heh.
and yes, chrisomatic, we know he's not as pretty as you, but who is?

[May. 10th, 2004|12:22 am] |
ahhhh, there's nothing like a crowd of sweaty, dancing hotties to get us going. really. it makes all the 'technical difficulties' go someplace far, far away.
louisville, you rock!
blurry, drunken pictures to come. so stay tuned... |

| | absolutely fucking furious | ] | if you've gone to our website recently and gotten a "Connection Failure" notice or some other error thingy, it's not our site that's the problem. It's your ISP. Alltel has apparently banned our server address so any customers (including us) of Alltel won't be able to access the site.
We've tried contacting alltel, but so far we're getting the runaround. Since there's no pornography on our site, we're assuming it's the queer and trans-related links they find objectionable. Next stop, the ACLU. |
