James McAvoy... I liked him in Becoming Jane and now I pretty much just want to violate him. His voice + accent = love.

12:19 pm - Great!
Our part-time operations VP is going to be living in the apartment next door to me when he's in town. Joy. And he has the head HR lady in there right now cleaning getting it ready for him. I'm hoping that is a one-time courtesy kind of thing.

22:53 pm - cockroaches please god no
So I sprayed Raid by my balcony door which is in my bedroom just to help keep out bugs and I came back a few hours later and there was a dead cockroach.

I'm pretty sure it was a cockroach.

I've never actually seen one before. In person.

Isn't the rule with cockroaches where there's one there's... more... gonna hurl.

What should I do? I don't leave trash out or throw away food trash anywhere but in the kitchen... cat food bowl is in the bedroom though because I moved it there after the ants got it in the dining room.

..this would also explain the bug leg I found on top of my dresser. Oh god.

edit: okay so the apt manager said they hadn't had a cockroach problem in many many years and that this one was probably a water roach (doesn't make me feel much better) and i found another dead one under my dresser that the leg definitely belonged to. my apt should be getting sprayed friday.

13:22 pm - kinda morbid for a monday
Do you visit graves?

I was thinking about that earlier when I realized I hadn't visited my grandpa's grave since he died... five years ago? And a great uncle of mine just died, don't think I ever met him though.

My parents are awesome, though, my mom just called and told me that they want the following:
1. To be cremated
2. Put in a ziplock bag and mixed around so they're stuck with each other forever (??)
3. Covertly split and spread somewhere near the koala and red panda exhibits at the Columbus Zoo (pretty sure this isn't legal =D I have images of my brother and myself skulking around with a strange backpack...)

10:08 am - yami no matsuei
So I was poking around the online viewable stuff on Netflix and found an English-dubbed Yami no Matsuei and I remember that being a pretty big fad a few years ago.

But omfg, I wasn't actually expecting it to be actual yaoi/shounen ai/whatever it is classified as. I'm so used to stuff that gets fangirled not having any technical canon events... but wow, seriously. Muraki is a creepy bastard.

At the grocery store I saw this little kid with a box of Lucky Charms clutched in one hand and Fruit Loops in the other and the expression on his face was like Santa Claus had just come up to him and told him he was getting a pony and every Lego set in existence. It was hilarious. XD

Flight of the Conchords is hilarious, go listen to Robots/The Humans are Dead. binary solo <3<3<3

06:47 am - earthquake, wtf
I thought I was dreaming early this morning when I felt my room/bed shake, because what the hell could it be in the Midwest?

An earthquake, apparently. Earthquake rattles Illinois.

That explains why my cat was hiding under the bed... I, of course, went back to sleep about 30 seconds after waking up. I react well in potentially bad situations.

13:45 pm - Sense & Sensi... fuck that shit, Alan Rickman = <3
After having a random impulse to watch Becoming Jane, I decided to watch movies based on Jane Austen's books because I truly cannot focus on the books themselves, my tiny brain can't wrap around the language. Or at least it couldn't in high school, and trying to read them again didn't seem terribly appealing.

Anyway, just finished watching Sense & Sensibility. I found it quite enjoyable for the most part, especially because zomgzomg Alan Rickman was in it. I love that man and I'm not even sure why. I also really liked the actress playing Elinor. Kate Winswhatever... not a fan, and her character was kind of annoying but ehh. Good movie overall.

17:11 pm - Hmm. I thought job satisfaction was abnormal?
I had an interesting day at work. I actually... enjoyed it.

Now that it's become official/known information that I've moved to full time, I've sort of become the engineering team catch-all as far as testing and building goes. This week I've been doing a water test to see if our products leak, and I've discovered a few design problems.

Since I was doing this test outside, people walked past a lot... at one point (when I was showing my boss and a mechanical engineer some test results) we ended up with a strange gathering of almost 10 people standing around "hmmm"ing. It amused me greatly.

I've also decided that the other engineers have a plot to box me into my corner desk. They keep piling up carts and boxes around it. x_x

Cable company is supposedly going to reimburse me for the desk so that'll be $200 back off my credit card in the next, oh, 6 months.

I did absolutely nothing at work today. I opened up a spreadsheet, moved some things around on my desk, and opened up cnn.com and overheardinny.com in tiny windows to read.

Speaking of CNN - You'd think a headline like "North Korea: on brink of war" would draw quite a bit of attention... but on CNN.com's "Most Viewed" list it is #2.

What's #1?

"Seinfeld OK after rollover crash"

......................................................

North Korea may be blowing up Japan or something, but thank god Jerry Seinfeld is alive.

09:52 am - DIE DIE DIE DIE
GODDAMMIT GODDAMMIT GODDAMMIT

So I got a new fucking desk yesterday because my old one was tiny and falling apart, and today when the cable guy comes to hook up my internet and shit HE BREAKS IT. WHY GOD WHY WHY CAN'T NEW THINGS I GET STAY THAT WAY FOR MORE THAN 24 HOURS.

Theoretically I'm going to call their office and they'll reimburse me for the desk since it's two days old so yay free desk with a giant crack on the top.

16:57 pm - Apt & moving
Thankfully my credit is excellent and I haven't committed any murders than have been recorded in a legal fashion, so I landed an awesome apartment. I'll probably put up a few pictures once the move is over.

In other news, holy cow my brother is big. Seven and a half years younger than me and I feel tiny next to him.

14:23 pm - jobsssss
My work finally decided hey yeah maybe it would be a good idea if I moved closer so I could work more and not spend $300 on gas a month.

...Except they told me about two weeks too late and now the one apartment place I was looking at suddenly has no units available until the end of April. Yay. Now I have to call around and crap and find other places that aren't in the not good end of town that accept pets. Though it just occurred to me that I should see if they have two bedrooms available.

I also got a new desk area with 3x the space I previously had but it's in an even more populated walkway. Hooray. They even gave me a phone.

What could possibly be more fun that removing and replacing tiny capacitors for hours on end?

Staring at bright lights!

What's more fun than staring at a panel of LEDs emitting bright light?

Staring at seizure-inducing FLASHING bright lights!

What's even more fun than that?!?!

Trying to stick a measuring device between them to get to itty bitty pins on itty bitty ICs!

Care to guess what makes it even BETTER?

I can either
1.) not wear my glasses that I need to SEE so I can wear mirrored sunglass things to sort of save me from the blinky lights, or
2.) Wear my real glasses and go blind.

But wait... it actually gets better.

After I'm done taking all the measurements I possibly can on the flashing bright lights, I get to... take off a bunch of capacitors! AND THEN MEASURE IT ALL AGAIN! YAAAAAAAAAY.

current mood: migraine.

Most of the water has gone down but we're still technically in "flooding" conditions, something about the water flow being pretty high. There's mud and dead fish everywhere. My apartment complex was specifically mentioned in the weather.com Flood Warning a few times, it amused me.

My aunt, who hasn't had a working computer/internet in her house for like two years, finally got a Mac - but now she's scared to click any hyperlinks, fill out any online forms, log into webpages, etc. I'm not sure what the point of her having a computer is.

11:46 am - Flooding!
I don't recommend living by a river.

Flood stage is 11 ft, river was at 24 ft, good times.

Pictures because it's weird to see things underwater. Also, there was a freaking beaver about 10 feet away from the road. )
