Jet-Setting Anna

Jul. 14th, 2008 | 09:54 am

Yesterday we headed out to the lake for a fire department picnic thing at the lake house of the chief. Anna has a cold and was coughing like crazy yesterday. Claritin and the nebulizer did nothing to help the poor girl. She was coughing all the time. It was a dry cough and it didn’t matter if she was outside, inside, sitting or playing, she would cough. Yes, I am taking her to the doctor today and in typical kid-fashion, she is not coughing today. Since this is an on-going thing with her, getting a nasty cough while being sick, I am going to see what the doctor thinks can be done. If any of you mommies or daddies out there have a child with a similar issue, tell me what you have found that helps!

Despite her coughing, she wanted to go swimming in the lake. Her idea of swimming is getting in the water with one of us holding her. I will admit, the lake floor is all rock, so I don’t think she liked that much. However, she did love riding in the boat.

Two other girls her age went on the jet skis with their parents. Anna wanted to as well. I was not worried about her riding so much as worried that once she got out on the water she would scream bloody murder.

Nope. She loved it. She loved it so much that asked to go again. So Neil took her out on the jet ski again. They were zooming around and having a good time. I had Sam on the shore with me and was just sitting with him. I looked out at the lake and saw the jet ski, but no one on it. I look closer and see two heads bobbing in the water. Anna had a life vest on. Neil got her back on the jet ski and was stuck there since he could not get on without flipping the thing over again. The fire chief went out with the other jet ski and rescued them. They were fine. I was amused and, of course, the other firefighters gave him a hard time.

Anna was relatively calm. She whined a little when she first fell off, but trusted her daddy enough to listen to him and get back on.

And in true form, she wanted to get back on and go out again.

Sammy's Doc Appointment

Jul. 10th, 2008 | 08:36 am

Sammy had his one year checkup yesterday.

Weight: 23 pounds (60th percentile)
Height: 30 3/4" (80th percentile)
Head Circumference: 19 (90th percentile - we all have big heads)

I checked Anna's stats from her one year appointment quickly last night. I think she was 3 pounds heavier and about the same height.

He is crawling, climbing and cruising, but not walking yet. He is eating pretty much anything you put in front of him. The doc gave us the green light to give him anything to eat as long as it is not a choking hazard.

She also said to do time-outs for biting. That struck me as weird, but she explained how to do it and it made sense.

The strange thing is, I keep thinking Sammy cannot do or understand as much as he actually does and that Anna understands more than she does. Make sense?

Sort of sad

Jul. 2nd, 2008 | 09:54 am

Sammy can have whole milk now. So no more pumping since he is rejecting breastmilk at school. :(

I am sad, but then again, I was getting tired of pumping. He still nurses at night, so I am not going to wean for a while I guess.
