1:47 pm - Welcome!
Hello and welcome to Adam "LAGtheNoggin" Hodgson's Sketchblog at Live Journal, the blog detailing a first-wave-conscript on the battle fields of artistic endeavour. Will he come through victorious and draw to the very winds, or end up crushed beneath the tracks of surrealism? Hit the RSS feed or add to a friends list and find out! Activities broadcast weekly, sometimes more.

Constructive Criticism approved and appreciated.

Thank-you and enjoy looking around!

11:51 pm - going to the moon brb
I'm just back from a week at the Art Institute at Bournemouth, the place where I'll be studying animation. It was an introduction week of sorts to meet fellow first year students and get used to the place, consequently;

Three things I didn't know about Bournemouth:
) The night life is crazy.
) The Dorset accent still exists.
) Animation attracts furries like a bucket full of yiff.

Well, I'm off to Paris to sketch up a storm for you guys. But before I scoot, here's some scans I've had lying around.

11:07 pm - I'M A ARTIST
A foundation artist of Distinction, which I assure you is one above an artist of Merit. Which in turn means I got top grades - I do arts good!

Or at least if you need a television stripped bare I can do it in under a minute. Here's my final art foundation piece linking to a handy dandy set of images and it's construction:

IMG_1107

Academic art eh.

If it takes your fancy: 5 new gesture sketchbook scans on my Blogger. Go see!

And should you still be fancying; a couple figure drawings behind the cut.

1:54 am - All done :)
Well that's my foundation course at Croydon College cleared. Results come in three weeks time and private viewing for our work is on the 24th of June, 7 o'clock; just a mere 5 minutes stroll from East Croydon Station. Come see! The gallery will remain open throughout that week.

However I must mention this isn't real art, it's conceptual art - art which from a conceptual artist's or gallery's perspective is the realest art of the real, but whatever, it's all about ideas and as far as I consider that's not something very tangible. So yes, don't come expecting 4 years figure drawing to be evident in any way at this showing, I couldn't even get away drawing a face for one year.

Overall though, the time here's been fun and I readily recommend the course if you're not looking for technical skills. The only thing that's disappointed me is my own laziness, and that isn't the worst way to come away from a year's classes :)

So! The future beckons... I have a few months until I'm required in Bournemouth so in the meantime I'll get back into the drawing groove and get uploading. Which of course requires being at a scanner.

I'll get back to you on that.

12:18 am - No time home
Hey guys, the art foundation course I'm doing is wrapping up with final major project showings in June (you're all invited!) and my boss wants me working 22 hour weekends in Richmond. So all in all I won't be getting much time to say hello for a while; don't worry, I'm just busy wracking my brains for conceptually-allowable-yet-mass-media-pleasing art and watching the latest DVDs with people arguing in French and/or blowing up cars.

Speaking of films, Michael Moore's Sicko may be horrendously biased rallying babble but it makes me happy to be a non American for once - afterall the US gets all the cool stuff.

By which I mean machine guns.

Also, two new sketches on the sketchblog.

1:13 am - OK BLOG
Sketchbook gesturebook #4 has several new posts over on Blogger. Go see!

Uhhhhm, other than that I am rather busy with things other than the internet. We're drawing up to our end of year show at Croydon and things are getting interesting. Also; I am into university! BA Animation Production! And... kind of worried.

After studying foundation I've developed a taste for artistic adventurous, and well, the Art Institute at Bournemouth just isn't. Hopefully the added figure drawing everyday will make up for it :)

12:43 am - OH BUSYS
OH ME OH MY I haven't posted for three months! I must get back into this, even if only for the sake of keeping myself coherent. Which is something I feel I'm losing the hang of through the sheer volume of normality my life seems to have adopted.

First things first: I'll be posting sketches over here now. It's a little more convenient to post to and doesn't contain any mad rantings (yet):

- LAGtheNoggin.BlogSpot.com -

Now to other things: Let's see, let's see... Yes. The last few months have been rather busy. Foundation Arts at Croydon is going swimmingly, albeit very conceptually. And by conceptually I mean what is this nonsense conceptually. Also, I get rolls of paper and HIT THEM WITH PAINT (fixed link).

All of which have lead to an interview at Bournemouth Arts Institute on the 21st, hurrah! The best animation course in the UK! That's three years I've wanted this day, three years! And now it feels, well, mundane.

That's life eh?

Best when it's boring.

9:43 pm - Polo polo
Did you know they don't actually hit the ball with the end of the hammer (croquet style) in polo? They hit it with the long side. That's totally gip.

It's like the day I discovered shooting clay pigeons isn't done with slugs, it's done with lead shot that gives you a 1 meter spread.

Anyway, Polo:

The Orange Box is wonderful.
It's so delicious and moist.

Also! I have a new Canon printer scanner so my scans now look weird in highly fastidious ways. I'm not sure I prefer it over my (rather good) 8 year old Epson scanner. Tell me if you notice any difference.
