01:53 am I'm still out here, in the blogosphere. Am taking a further hiatus from this blog, and am now joining iamjenjenjen and tatianaskye for our collaborative blog, UpDownRight

We've decided it'll be a good way to challenge ourselves to shoot more, and to keep up on each others' lives. So, I don't know how to make an RSS feed for it (yet!), but if you're interested, please keep up with me there.
I miss you guys.

Black-Eyed Susans along the highways in New Mexico

It's been a while, but I am back at adding my photography to my LJ. Right now iamjenjenjen and I are on a road trip from LA to Chicago (largely along Route 66), and there are some great shots to be had here. In particular, New Mexico was beautiful.

Flash Lesson

caliskye taught me about how to use the slow synchro flash during my past weekend in Seattle. See the above photo for my three different flash settings. (We were amused by the fact that we closed the sun roof on that poor tree. We don't get out much.)
On the left: Tatiana with no flash. A little drab/washed out (sorry hon), and a little blurry if you zoom in. (When you shoot with no flash the camera slows down its shutter speed, making it blurry.
In the middle: With flash. Sharp Tatiana and leaves, but whoa, it looks pitch black outside!
On the right: With the slow-synchro flash. What the camera does, is it uses a quick burst of flash to illuminate the subject, but not as much light as a normal flash, so it ALSO slows down the shutter speed. You end up getting to preserve a lot of the natural lighting (welcome back, trees & bushes in the background!), but if you hold still, the up-front stuff will stay sharp.
If you don't hold still (or your subjects don't), you get the effect in the Reggae picture I posted earlier... still kinda cool!
