Congratulations, Lady of Shame [Dec. 10th, 2004|05:46 pm]
Just read the< a href=http://www.shamelady.com>Shamelady</a> news. That's awesome.

I made a longer post about it on http://www.pdxbars.com

You should go there and write reviews of Portland Bars that you like. There are some regular posters there, I'm thinking of adding a thing where registered users can post links, and tally their post count. I don't know. Maybe I will.

Go there...NOW.

Portland Bars [Nov. 29th, 2004|12:38 pm]
After a great amount of programming work and data entry monotony, Jason and I have a working version of our Portland Bar directory up.

The goal is to slowly build it as a community of belligerent drunks. I'd like to keep it from becoming a BarFly replica (besides the only way to find the BarFly is if you know of the BarFly), or a CitySearch type site.

While it isn't complete, we are hoping that our friends will also take the time to write up quick bar reviews and add to the site.

Any way, here is the url http://www.pdxbars.com

We'll also be doing link exchanges with anyone who contributes, so if you want a little extra traffic to your website, hit me up: kyle@pdxbars.com

Bars [Nov. 7th, 2004|08:56 pm]
I am building a local directory of PDX bars. I've build a solid foundation for traffic/search optimization (see my article on using MOD_REWRITE), and hopefully will have displaced citysearch which currently dominates results pages of google and yahoo when searching for information about a specific bar.

One thing I'm building is the ability for promoters/managers/bar owners to generate calenders. Given the incredible amount of flakiness I'm noticing in people, it's hard to tell if this will be used. So many people buy shovels then never dig the hole, ya know?

I'll also love it if people were to post reviews of the venues. I'm planning on including the option to post your url, and with my incredibly spider friendly pages, should help get you crawled by the major SE's.

One thing I am considering including is an all ages venue listing on the same site. While it is primarily a bar directory, I think it would pick up traffic for all ages venues considerably. Lets face it, most of the local websites for venues suck, and can only be found if you already know the URL, which kind of defeats the purpose.

Good ideas? Bad? Some what craptacular? Is my penor large.

Oh yeah, and Kyle web design tip # 4343: Never Screw Your Web Designer

I'm trying not to talk about politics. What can I say, I'm a fatalist with a slight Libertarian lean.

Anyway, here is my helpful article: Image Search Optimization

Attachment update [Nov. 2nd, 2004|02:33 pm]
It is wise to compress images from your digital camera BEFORE you send them. And just because you have superduper high resolution camera, it doesn't suddenly make you Ansel Adams. You remain you, with a high resolution crappy snapshot.

It is also wise to make sure the pictures would be of any interest to the person that you accidentally emailed them to.

Funky girl making wacky face in front of a hot dog stand, at 3mb, well, that just sucks. I don't even know who funky girl is, or why I should care.

Do not email me large attachments [Nov. 2nd, 2004|01:37 am]
30mb attachments aren't funny, and for some reason, they brought my mail server to a halt. It looks to be approximately 13mb in size. All I know is that disk space for that account is eaten up, and even on 768kps (well, as advertised, fucking comcast) it has taken nearly a hour to download and a small fraction of the message.

I have no clue who did it, my mail hasn't downloaded from that account...yet.

But, as it is, it is also preventing me from viewing essential business oriented messages.

So please...If they are bigger than 1mb, DO NO SEND.

Don't know how to tell if they are bigger than 1mb? Right click and select "properties" on the file you would like to send. If there are more than 6 digits followed by the words "bytes", don't send it. If it says "this file is 2.4Mb or 1.45 Mb." don't send it. I'll like you better that way.

So thank you, large attachment sender. If I wake up in the morning and things are still horked, I'll be very angry with you.

Just a quicky [Nov. 1st, 2004|02:17 pm]
After numerous friends asking me the same fucking questions over and over about how to get traffic to their websites, I wrote a little article about how to promote a band website if anyone is interested.

And for friends who I've hooked up in the past - Sorry, no more freebies. I've got bills to pay.

Just acting like an asshole [Oct. 27th, 2004|11:24 am]
Because I'm evil and hungry for traffic and realized it probably gets a few hundred searches per month, I purchased Shanghai Tunnel.

Additionally, I'm am turning Kyle Ritter into a blog, focusing on geeky internet stuff. Daddy needs to make him some mulag.

And my friends suck. When the fuck are you going to come out here for a little visit, you lazy pieces of shit?

what a great night` [Sep. 30th, 2004|12:22 am]
Aside from parties and weird biker things, I've never played a show before. Tonight was fucking awesome. There were like 150 at this damn little bar, we played 8 goddamn songs, and had a great time. The sound was great on the audience end, but the onstage monitors sucked ass until the sound guy got it right halfway through. Feeling damn good. I'm going to drink lots of whiskey, and not really care about working in the morning, since come Friday, I'm not an employee anyway!

I must find some folks like this to rock with in pdx.

Countdown [Sep. 29th, 2004|04:44 pm]
At this time next wednesday, I will be unpacking the u-haul and putting shit in my new place in NE PDX. Short timers syndrome at work has me by the balls, I haven't done a damn thing all day.

I'll be doing some work for Flying Rhinoceros after I get up there. Great company, really creative stuff. I've been on such a basic anti-artistic $$$ oriented design MO, it'll take awhile to reaquaint myself "I'm the artiste, you are the web guy" ego that pops out every once in awhile. I'll even be working along side my old creative director from Eyescream, The Maestro of POW Wrestling infamy.

Tonight, the boys and I have a show at this 30+ bar with a surfy punkabilly band. That will be the last time I get to play with the guys. It's been fun and simple, loud metalish with lots of the power-rocker soloing and harmonic trickery, Robert is the master of that shit. And I get to pound on the damn drums as hard as can. As T-bogg puts it, those stupid pop-doo-pop-pop beats.

It's a wonderful morning [Sep. 18th, 2004|12:02 pm]
[mood | relaxed]
[music |Spilt to Bill]

Starting waxing nostalgia - 10 years ago around this time, on a morning like this morning, I'd pop up on Saturdays, and sit around and smoke pot with Blanchard, Dandy, and Sody. Then I'd go skate with Chris Hurley, and try to figure out how to go about humping his sister. Built to spill was always playing in the morning.

So that's what I'm listening to now, and applying for a job I just saw on Craigslist.

My grandparents are visiting so I'm going to take them to dinner tonight, then go have a few beers with my grandpa. He is fucking hilarious.

I'm still not the number one asshole yet, but apparently, many Kyles are assholes:

Kyle is an asshole [Sep. 16th, 2004|02:55 pm]
I'm moving back to PDX, PDXers. Worked a sweet deal with my boss to work on a contract basis and shed myself of this shithole.

And in addition to that, I'd like to redundantly add that I overheard some chick tell her friend "Kyle is an asshole" last night. So I figured I'd become the number one asshole named Kyle on google, just because.

Paste this into your favorite journal or website or whatever to make me an asshole:

Evening of rock [Aug. 27th, 2004|01:33 pm]
I guess we are playing at this motorcycle event tonight. Should be fun a 45 minute set of rock, I guess there are going to be around 1000 gnarled old biker guys and trashy women in confederate flag bikinis. That will so fucking lounge.

band with no name [Aug. 9th, 2004|09:20 am]
[mood |fuck the fuck off]
[music |The soothing voices of loud Southern salesman]

What a weekend. That music outfit I've been engaging in the rock with played at this chick's house out in the country. It ended up pretty much being a harley gang party, which was kind of funny, because they were like Hell's Angels Lite.

Rick quitely mumbled "Kyle, this is your fault. Guys I hate to say it, but if we get in a pickle, does anyone know any Skynryrd riffs?".

So we played all seven songs that we have written so far, and they wanted us to keep playing to which we just fucked around.

In the end, they invited us to play at their club house anytime, where I guess activities include gangbanging prospective member's ole' ladys, holding fundraisers for numerous charities, and $1.00 draft beers not subject to Alcohol commission regulations.

I keep imagining a PeeWee's Big Adventure/Blues Brothers type scenario going on.

I'm sleepy.

Found some oldies but goodies [Aug. 2nd, 2004|10:52 pm]
I thought the cartoons and games I made for zthing were gone forever. Amazing how many people will archive their shit. These are two of what I consider to be my best ones.

Special Winter Olympics
Easter Egg Hunt

If I can remember all the file names, I might be able to dig up all of the ones I had a hand in. That would be sweet, and this time I'll remember to save the fuck out of them.
