Apt seeking part 2

Posted by [info]_devillicious_ on 2008.07.29 at 19:39
SO yours truly, as of 7:39pm today, still doesn't have an apt. The girl chose someone else, and the sausage fest apt? I started getting uber concerned when I found out I'd be the only other person on the lease, and the dude on the lease won't be around when I come back from Taiwan, which means I have to go collect the rent from the other tenants in the house, which I'd only know for like, 5 days. And if they flake on me, I either have to cover the difference myself until they pay me, or I get the rent in late, which damages my credit, since I am now on the lease. Paranoia aside, what really topped off the shadiness scale was how overly eager and pushy the dude was for me to sign the lease. He literally wanted me to to go to DC this weekend just to sign the lease, which doesn't need to be renewed until September. I figured I would rather be homeless than get stuck bad credit in a house full of shady dudes. I managed to get out of that one, but I have until 8/3 to find an apt and move in. Worse comes to worse, I get an apt late and my poor, sweet, bestest boyfriend helps me move my stuff in without me there. [prepares to buy a truckload of pineapple cakes for him]

btw, I'm in Taiwan 8/4~8/25!! My supervisor is really Awesome, and is letting me start my job late so I can see my family for an extended period of time before work takes hold. Its been so long since I saw my whole family together...

Ew, boys are GROSS.

The world feels: contemplative
So it just occurred to me to find out how Randy Pausch was doing this morning. I googled and found out that he died last night. Spooky.

This is the man who did the "Last Lecture" series once he was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_Pausch

The last lecture video is here and definitely worth a watch: "http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3115188410730134929"

He did another lecture on time management which is extremely useful:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5784740380335567758

This man will always be an inspiration to me in how he led his life and how he dealt with inescapable adversity. The world is a poorer place today.

For you computer geeks.

Best. Error. Ever.

Error    1    Validation (XHTML 1.0 Transitional): Text is not allowed between the opening and closing tags for element body'.

I don't comprehend how this makes the slightest lick of sense.

Huh. Apparently I figured it out. And now it makes a lot of sense.

Free-floating text isn't allowed between the body tags. All text needs to be enclosed by other tags like <div> or <span> to be rendered. It just took me by surprise. NO TEXT IN THE BODY TAGS. WHAT?

Let's do a conversation!

Scarlett's Corset

Posted by [info]xjapanfangrl in [info]corsetry on 2008.07.24 at 23:46
Hi all,

I'm at San Diego Comic Con for the weekend. After reading this community for awhile, I think I am FINALLY going to buy a corset! Scarlett's Corset is at the con and they fitted me today and I took a look at some of their corsets. I liked what I saw, but I've never bought a corset before, so I was curious if any of any of you had any opinion about them.

Thanks!

Hullo.
I've made myself quite a few corsets, having sucessfully drafted my own patterns, but corsetry is expensive, and I would like to challenge myself by making a corset for a different body type, so I was wondering if anyone was interesting in comissioning an affordable, semi-custom corset?

I'm experienced with neo-victorian underbusts and overbusts, not for waist-training, but very sturdy three layer corset, using a full set of your measurements.

My rough price would be around $120 USD, depending on the amount of boning, cost of fabrics, and bearing in mind that I live in New Zealand, and I'm not sure how the currency conversion works via electronic transfers. This covers the cost of hardware and fabric, and the approximate time it takes to make the corset.

I usually take roughly two weeks to finish, depending on outside interference.

A comment on here is fine as initial contact. You can also email me at peoplecomeandgo (AT) hotmail (DOT) com.

26" Amy Butler print cincher, $75

Posted by [info]lace_d in [info]corsetry on 2008.07.24 at 21:24
Hello everyone.. After recently moving and expecting two corsets in the mail in the next few months, I decided it's time to clean out my closet a bit to make room.

I only have the one picture of this corset on my computer right now, but if anyone is interested I can take some more in the morning. I am asking $75, which includes shipping in the US. I can ship outside of the US, but I will have to find out how much it would cost.

One reason I am asking so little for this cute little cincher is that when I opened the box it came to me in, I accidently put a little tear in the binding.

Few more pics here : http://flickr.com/photos/jillscorsets/page2/

The corset itself is made with Amy Butler print cotton fabric, double boning. The binding and laces are made with pink satin. There are also four garter loops.

The waist closes at 26", there is a modesty panel.
underbust ~ 28-29"
hip ~ 34-35"
busk lenght ~ 10"

OK, so Captain Rainbow might actually be a really cool game...

...if only because it apparently co-stars a whole host of old Nintendo characters, for some reason. As evidenced by the newest trailer - subtitled! - which is narrated by Little Mack, of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out fame! Only... he's not so little anymore, it would seem! (:

The first trailer has been subtitled too, which offers a bit more insight into the game, now that I know Catherine = Birdo. Yes, Birdo from Super Mario Bros. 2. That creepy love-stricken bird with the androgynous voice is indeed our old egg-spitting foe, rendered in glorious 3D! (:

I thought Love-de-Lic might be getting a little stale, but now I see they're just as weird as ever. One more Wii title to add to my list, I guess! (:

Said 'Friend" Keeps bugging me.

Posted by [info]maikujaku on 2008.07.24 at 17:06
A conversation between me and Corsi about her.

[13:39] Jetta Bentham: Apparantly she thinks I'm gonna be stupid enough to answer my phone to her
[13:39] Corsi Mousehold: LOL Keeps calling?
[13:39] Jetta Bentham: I left her in my phone so I'd know when she's calling since I can' block her number from the phone
[13:47] Jetta Bentham: Of course I renamed her to Dumb Bitch
[13:56] Jetta Bentham: Heh, that's funny, she says I can't sing, I can't dance, and I can't draw. Well, lets see, I'm the lead female singer in 2 bands, she's not even a member of a band. I know I can't dance, I just try to have fun. And I definitely know I can't draw. I never said I could.
[13:56] Jetta Bentham: She also claims everything she decided to do I HAD to do first. Like dying my hair red. LOL
[13:57] Jetta Bentham: I dyed my hair red before we even started hanging out again for one thing. Heh
[13:58] Jetta Bentham: I think the best part is, I deleted and blocked her from everything yesterday. And today she says SHE'S done with me.
[13:58] Jetta Bentham: So once again, I did it first
[13:58] Corsi Mousehold: LOL
[13:58] Corsi Mousehold: Funnyyyyyy
[14:00] Jetta Bentham: Even funnier is for years she's treated me as if I was inferior to her. If I was so inferior, why did I do everything first?

__________________________________________________________________________

She called me up to insult me yesterday, and I was right, it all did boil down to her never having forgiven me for what happened between my ex/her current boyfriend. I also figured out why she was sooooooo keen on hanging out with me. Cause for once I've had a successful relationship for almost 3 years, and she wanted to show off her new 'older' man. It's funny, back in high school the cute guys and girls who chase after me today, would never have given me the time of day. They'd all go to her, cause she was popular and I wasn't. Now, I'm on my own, while she still lives at home with mommy, and her kid. You know, she threatened to call up Mike and tell him all sorts of stupid things that she thought he'd believe from her. My last words to her yesterday, before I baleeted her from every device except my cell phone, were "At least I didn't get knocked up by my so-called boyfriend, and left alone because I decided to have his kid." The guy told her he was gonna leave her if she decided to have the kid, and she chose to be left alone, a single mom, having to try and hide her pregnancy, lest she be kicked out of college.

__________________________________________________________________________

Also, apparantly I stole all her dreams and made them mine. Bitch, I had dreams to be a singer before I even met you. I'm finally better than her, because I'm not bitter, I'm not sitting here constantly calling up someone and insulting them for things that happened 8 years or so ago. And on this note, this is my last entry about her. I'm moving on with my life and the best part is? It doesn't include her anymore. Goodbye Candace, learn to forgive yourself, then maybe you can find hope for true friendship again.

Ode to crabs; not of the STD variety.

Posted by [info]_devillicious_ on 2008.07.24 at 15:15
One of the things you must enjoy while you're in Ocean City is steamed crabs. Delicious, savory, translucent crab flesh delicately spiced with bay seasoning, pulled straight from the exoskeleton of a poor creature I would have more pity for if he didn't taste so damn good. This is the 3rd time since I've been here that I've feasted on succulent crab meat, and I will say this: Fresh crabs= much, much better than frozen ones. And screw crab cakes; why mix good, natural crab meat with crumbled saltine crackers and god knows what else? Why not just eat the crab itself? Even with just plain vinegar, the meat is sweet and absolutely tasty. Of course, if you don't have the stomach to pull open a whole crab and wallow through yellow and white guts, gore, and gills, you can always settle on the meat in the claws. 9.5 crabs later, I've come to the conclusion that the claw meat is much stringier and less tasty than the meat in the main body, and if you don't want to miss out on the REALLY good stuff, prepare to get your hands dirty. There is this one place called Higgins that serves up whole steamed crabs completely slathered in their unique bay seasoning, and the only eating utensils you get is a wooden mallet and a little metal blade. The mallet comes in handy with the claws, but the metal blade is good for lifting the top shell off from behind the crab, and slicing away the gills, tendrils, and other doohickey appendages that you don't want to eat, or if you're like me, don't want to see while eating. The place offers you butter and vinegar if you get tired of the bay seasoning; I don't think the butter goes all that well with crab, especially since I've heard that crab is already pretty loaded with cholesterol. The seasoning Higgins uses is a mix of Bay, crushed sea salt, spicy red pepper, cayenne, and other stuff that makes it just plain addictive, and even more so when dumped on crabs [hence the 3 times I've been at Higgins so far]. If I weren't so soft hearted, I'd go crabbing myself and steam those suckers homestyle. But again, I feel bad for those poor little critters. Poor, tasty, delicious critters. I swear, I'd be a vegetarian if I didn't love meat so much. [Internal torment] Anyways, if you haven't had a chance to get some crabs straight from the bay, you're realllyyyy missing out. I just might have another 3 before I leave OC, I can't get enough of them.

That means I can pop some advil and keep on truckin.

That's about the best I was hoping for ^.^

So right now and hopefully forever

I'm in love with tristan, I don't believe the crap you're saying, and the next time you shoot your mouth off, give me some concrete proof. I don't know and I don't care why you want to ruin his life and mine, but I suggest you stop it now. I'm a gemini afterall, and getting on my bad side is a very bad idea.

The world feels: okay
Just a few things I vaguely felt like writing about lol...

#1: It only took 20 years, but for the first time, a song I recorded has made it onto an officially-released CD... one that you can actually buy (but probably won't lol). The CD is called "Auto-Pseudo-Mondo", and it contains 18 recordings of the same song-- each one recorded by a different artist from the February Album Writing Month project. Here's the press release: )

So, yeah. That's kinda cool. *^_^*

#2: A couple of nights ago, my brother was over my place, and we were watching an episode of "Ghost Hunters". We were sort of MST3K-ing it as we watched, cracking jokes whenever the opportunity arose (and sometimes even when it didn't lol). Anyway, in this particular episode, the woman who took Jason and Grant on the tour of the place they were investigating was named Candace, but she distinctly pronounced her name is if there was a second N in there-- like "Candance". It struck my brother and I as pretty odd, so for the rest of the episode, we were making jokes that involved inserting extra N's into words. For example, Candace said something like, "Several people have died in this hotel", and I would go, "Really? Several people have dined here?" OK, I know, not so hilarious lol... but this continued during the commercial break, where a fortuitously-timed ad for a popular TV show gave me the opportunity to say, "Cesar Millan is... the Dong Whisperer" LOL.

#3: Alright, where are my "Avatar" fans at? (I'm lookin' at you, [info]xilvrin lol.) Nickelodeon finally finished the series up last week, and it was pretty damn sweet. I'm not going to post any spoilers, on the off chance that anyone who gives a rat's ass about the show and hasn't seen the finale yet is reading this, but I have to say that I was not disappointed. Pretty much every character got a chance to shine either in the finale itself or in the episodes leading up to it, and there were many moments that filled me with absolute giddiness. Best of all, they unmistakably set the stage for a spin-off. I can't wait.

#4: I was taking out some trash tonight when I noticed that there were a couple of slugs on the back stairs. It had rained a little while before that, and they're always out and about in back of my building after a storm. I brought the trash back to the dumpster, being careful to look out for slugs as I walked. Then I headed back to the back steps, where I crouched down for a minute to observe a little slug as it crawled along. When I got back up to leave, I saw that I had stepped on another one that I hadn't seen :( ... I felt horrible. I know, it was a mistake... but I also know that most of you on my friends list also don't like to kill anything you don't have to, and you probably understand how I felt. Poor little thing. Just minding its own business when some clumsy monster comes along and obliterates it. Oh well... how I reconcile that guilt with remaining a confirmed carnivore, I'll never know lol.

#5: The first volume of "Tiny Toon Adventures" comes out on DVD this coming Tuesday. What has two thumbs and is excited? This guy lol.

Meme time!
