Stumbling on Air.... (about art)
Last week kozy and I were interviewed for 89.3 KPCC's show, Pacific Drift (which is like This American Life but for Southern California) for a story about the new Comic Exhibition at the Hammer and MOCA Museums here in LA.

The program aired last night, but the archive of our segment of the show can be found HERE (almost at the bottom ofthe page).

We were asked to talk about Chris Ware, our artwork, and comics influence on a generation of young fine artists in Los Angeles. I think we both had a lot in mind to say on the subject, but as soon as a big microphone was stuck in our faces in the middle of MOCA, we totally forgot eveerything and ended up sounding utterly incoherent. Oh well.

Nice job! It's really cool to listen to you guys talk being that i've never met you face to face or anything.

Was this this the cover he was refering to during the interview:

One of my favorite designers did that, Chip Kidd!

there is a 'this american life'-esque program for southern california??? o_O

that might change my life. i'll check out the show. jimmy corrigan is one of my favorite graphic novels. i haven't seen the moca exhibit yet...

i think your interview didn't go too badly. i liked what kozy said about your art being one frame of a comic. like your other commentor said, it's cool to match voices with photos with art with you guys! :)

You should check out the show. They've had some good stuff on it from time to time. Also chekc out the MOCA and Hammer exhibits. There is good stuff in both.

Hearing our voices on air was torture though for sure...

you sounded incoherent? no, you sounded so cute, nice and informed...enjoyed hearing kozy too!

(to be honest the guy interviewing you sounded like he was perpetually on the verge of going to hiccup or something. he was giving me near anxiety attacks because i was just waiting for it. and it never happened!!)

Ugh - i sounded terrible! "you know, you know, you know" all the time! argh. so awful.

Kozy had a pretty bad cold at the time as well, so she doesn't really sound like that.

Did they do any editing for the interview? I was on the radio the other day and there was NO editing. So I wasn't as conversational and glib because I didn't want to put my foot in it, and a couple of the questions stumped me. Cringefest.

I thought the interview flowed nicely. Even if you guys seemed a mite nervous, it was real and sincere.

Oh they did a TON of editing. At the end of the interview, I told the host "We were awful - we sounded do dtupid!" and he told me "Don't worry, we've been here talking for a half hour but the segment is only four minutes, so you only need to sound smart for that long - I think we can do that no problem."

I think they must have had quite a challenge!

Yes - so do pretty much all comic artists. And actually most other artists, ourselves included. Thank god for hands!

I didn't think you guys sounded all that bad, either. It was nice to match voices with faces, too!

hey i just listen to that, that's cool !
Both your voices are actually much lower than i thought (but kozy had a cold, so ok)
I like low voices ! Kozy's voice actually made me think of a singer i love, sarah bettens (singer of K's choise)
She's belgian, so she has a slight accent like Kozy, and a very low and beautifull voice. You should listen to her stuf by the way ^_^ K's choice's one of my favorite bands
