AHAHAHAH LOL [06 Oct 2008|09:30am]
[ mood | amused ]

My beloved LJ friends, I am having the biggest laugh I have had in a long, long while.

Once this is over, i'll be able to tell you all about it.

Suffice it to say, the sheer fucking dickery of some people gives me the absolute LULz.

I love the world.

Removed some people who never post, or who have removed me. Some of the people who don't read me anymore kind of hurt, but whatever.

Childhood memories [03 Oct 2008|11:48am]
[ mood | nostalgic ]

My mother was asking about this last night, so I thought I'd ask- does anyone remember Metal Mickey? Apparently it was on the ABC every night at six pm, as a filler between stuff like Degrassi and other stuff. They've released the first season on DVD.

Hoshit, he's on Wikipedia!.

So. Anyone else remember?

Today has been a good nerdy day [02 Oct 2008|03:06am]
[ mood | pleased ]

As above.

I have managed to get one character petted on the head by someone it dearly loves, have another scare people down to their socks over a post that wasn't even pointed at them, and another want to sent people into a situation that will probably mean death.

Tonight, I remember why I deal with the bullshit. It's good to be me.

So, footy violence is more valid than video game violence? [26 Sep 2008|01:35am]
[ mood | disgusted ]

I'm not dreadfully good at these current affairs posts, but this one cried out for my attention.

Essentially, a guy climbs into the back seat of a woman's car so he can rape her. Part of his defence lawyer's strategy is he plays 'an aggressive contact sport', IE footy. The drugs probably didn't help, either.

So, being involved in a 'culture of violence' like footy, is highly socially lauded and used as a defence, where as being involved in a 'culture of violence' like video games, is to be used by the prosecution, and a sign that obviously the people involved were evil in the first place?

Apart from the act (which is dreadful in itself), this whole fucking situation makes me sick to my stomach. It's absolute balls.

Gaming Meme [24 Sep 2008|12:06am]
Roleplaying Meme ahoy! I am such a sucker for these things.

Warning - some adult concepts (sex, violence) contained within.

I've edited it a little. Because i'm a great screaming nerd. And I know i've analysed some of these a bit much, but damn, I haven't thought about some of these girls in literally years.

Borrowed from [info]zeusgirl, [info]babykitty, [info]blondofborg and [info]twicedead.

A culture of hate [12 Sep 2008|06:54pm]
[ mood | thoughtful ]

It's Renewal Season again- how can I tell? A bunch of people are spewing angry rants all over everything about 'Fuck the Cam and everyone in it'.

Honestly, it makes me a bit sad. I have the utmost respect for people who draw the line and walk away, sure- you've got more stones than I have, doves. But when it comes to such ugly utter nay-saying about the entirety of the club, it does nothing for you other than make you look like a bitter jackass.

Some people- in fact, most people who leave- have their reasons, and will be especially negative if those reasons were thrust upon them suddenly, or if they become aware of the reasons after a long period of things being wrong. I understand that, i've talked to plenty of people who've walked, hell, I've run through a lot of those reasons myself. If you feel the need to ignore the good things that you've experienced with the Cam (and hell, if you don't think you've experienced something good, then look at it again, i'm sure you'll find something), then hey, I'm not going to stop you. I think you're missing out, but it's your choice. However, statements like 'I've grown up now' are not strictly correct, and frequently massively offensive to us 'children'. You've evolved past your need or desire for the Camarilla, or decided to remove yourself from a situation which is negative to you (the latter of which is a very difficult thing to do)- there is a difference.

You are entitled to your beliefs. You are entitled to think that we're idiots for being part of the Cam. You are not, however, entitled to make us feel like idiots because we're not done yet, just like we're not entitled to make you feel like an idiot for leaving. That goes for individual venues as much as it goes for the whole club.

Go out. Enjoy your new spare time. Channel your creativity in new and interesting ways. If you're really over the Cam, then BE over it- let the past be past, accept the role it had in your life for a time, and move on, rather than trying to make those of us who still enjoy dressing in silly costumes and pretending to be other people feel like fuckwits. If you spend all your time spitting and cussing about the Cam, you're still as ruled by it as we are, if not more so.

I've left this unlocked rather than putting it under my Cam filter so that everyone so inclined can see it. This isn't aimed at anyone in particular- it's something that's been stewing in my mind for a while (literally, years). Think about it.

Supporting the awesome [26 Aug 2008|04:05pm]
Hey everyone,

I normally don't spam people's flists like this, but I promised [info]nash076 I would, and well, he deserves it- I haven't been pimping his show hard enough.

Some of you may be aware of an odd little show I listen to on our Tuesday Morning (their Monday Night) called Radio Dead Air. It's where Conservator and In The Butt came from. It's run by the aforementioned Nash, who is a love.

This weekend he'll be at DragonCon, and will be broadcasting live from 9pm Saturday (EST), which translates as about 10 or 11 Sunday Morning for most Auswegians. If you're cruising the tubes at this time, I suggest you listen in- it's well worth it. The number of times he's made me laugh so hard i've been crying cannot be counted, plus he has a bunch of interviews with folk at D*Con, as well.

On top of this, he has his regular show, starting at the same time Tuesday morning (for Australians, Monday Night for everyone else), and it's well worth listening too, even if it is in the background.

It's comedy gold, and the music is great.

OK, done plugging now. JUST LISTEN, AND BE AMAZED! Connection details and stuff can be found at [info]radiodeadair

A random quote [20 Aug 2008|03:45pm]
[ mood | silly ]

Last night, in conversation, my mother said to me-

"I like to hear about your life, Katie, as long as it makes sense."

I replied-

"What doesn't make sense about giant goats?"

So I put the question to you, dear readers!

Book review! [19 Aug 2008|06:53pm]
Now, instead of bitching and whining about my life (what else is LJ for?), I thought i'd do somethinc constructive- a book review.

No, this isn't a gaming book. It's actually something I picked up a little over a year ago, and have found it surprisingly useful since- and not in the dodgy way you might think.

The book in question is the Howdunit Book of Poisons- A Guide For Writers by Serita Stevens and Anne Bannon, and it is a veritable treasure trove of information. Not only is there nearly three hundred pages on poisons of many different sorts- everything from household poisons to poisonous animals and plants to medical poisons to biochemical weapons, with toxicity ratings, symptoms, reaction times and treatments- there are sections on the history of poison, a glossary of the medical terms used to describe symptoms, guides on making your own fictional poison believable in a story, case histories of poisons being used in literature, movies and real life, and indexes on poisons by toxicity, manifested symptom, appearance, and the time in which they react.

It's very up to date- as I said, I bought it a year ago, and was surprised to find it referencing things such as House episodes and the death of Steve Irwin. I have no doubt that the information will become dated, or has already done so, but it is still amazingly accurate. I know I love a reference book when I can go to the index, look up 'Poisons that cause Hyperglycaemia/Diabetes', and find several listings that are relevant to what i'm doing.

In short, this book makes me very happy, and has payed for itself over again from the looks people give me when my sisters shout "Katie, where's your book of poisons? I wanna read it!" So if you want a useful research tool for writing, characters, or just a fun read, I reccomend this one whole heartedly.

Notes of Annoyance [12 Aug 2008|04:26pm]
From the weekend-

Dear Fuckwit,

The comment 'But you're too young to have arthritis' is never appreciated and never appropriate. It's like saying 'but you're too black to have cancer', or 'You're not gay, you can't get AIDS'.

Do not speak to me until you work this out.

kthx,
luv KT

From Today-

Dear Old Bitch,

You watched me fall over while I was running for the bus- I saw you standing up and looking out the window at me. I don't appreciate having to shout 'Please hold the bus' when I am winded, and simply turning around and waving vaguely will not usually attract the attention of the bus driver. Smiling when i'm in obvious physical discomfort and saying 'You'll have to wait for an hour now!' is not at all helpful, you spiteful cunt.

kthx,
luv KT

I know it's whiney of me, but the things above irritated me. Otherwise, things are good.

A message from Central to the participants in World Youth Day [16 Jul 2008|12:27pm]
Dear Rock Choppers,

I don't know where you came from, but I just have to ask, is it considered polite to jostle someone walking with a cane so hard that they drop said implement and break a chunk off the handle? And then walk on without an apology?

I was willing to come into the City because I held a few moments of mistaken belief that people who had travelled halfway across the bloody world to take part in a celebration of New Testament-based sentiment might be a little more considerate of the people around them, especially those with obvious mobility problems. Guess I won't be doing that again, huh?

You're lucky I didn't beat you about the fucking kneecaps with it. I don't care if it's a cheap piece of drek, it's MY cheap piece of drek.

Take your self righteousness and cram it,
Morag

PS- The red looks really dreadful against your skin tone, sweetheart, you may want to look to blue next time.
