( Project Runway ) OCT 1ST; 10 05
Wow, I can't remember the last time reality TV has pissed me off that much. >:(

Well, okay, I was pretty mad at the premire of ANTM. But. But. But. What the hell, Project Runway?

( Hard Core BZUH? ) SEP 21ST; 11 58
So, I knew there'd been some talk of making a sequel to Hard Core Logo -- a movie I repeatedly advise everyone on my friends list to see, as it is extremely good -- but I'd always kind of dismissed it out of hand. No spoilers here, but the way the first movie ends doesn't really... encourage a sequel.

Now I find out that they're making not one, not two, but possibly three sequels (note: I couldn't find a single article on this that didn't completely spoil the first movie, and it is worth it to not be spoiled, so uh... if you want to know, just google "hard core logo sequel").

I... there are so many ways to say "What the actual fuck?" but I think I'm just going to have to settle for what the actual fuck???? This is one of the weirdest ideas for a sequel I think I've ever seen, and I'm including shit like The Little Mermaid 2 in that. I mean, I hope it's (or they're, I guess) good, but I don't see any way for it to not be an unmitigated disaster.

Okay, this literally made me cry with lulz, so I am sharing it with you, friendslist. What's your Sarah Palin baby name?

In other news, Entourage keeps getting both better and gayer. I freakin' love this show. Keep it going guys -- especially you, Jeremy Piven.

Dear John McCain,

I know you're desperate to win back women voters after all the rampant, aggressive sexism that's been coming out in the press (and that's to say nothing of his policies!); and its funny that you think women are so dumb and self-obsessed that picking one of us will bring us all over to the McCain camp.

Unfortunately, your candidate is just about as crap with women's issues as you are (to say nothing of her other policies). Good job, getting a candidate who was openly rejected by NOW. I appreciate that. It really makes me feel like your woman-hating is at an end!

I hope this bites you in the ass a lot.

-[info]arxev

(PS for non-John McCain readers: I don't always agree with feministing.org, but they have a pretty good piece about this. I particularly like the line: "In other words, the [Republican] party is pro-woman-candidates, as long as they enact anti-woman policies." Well said, ladies.)

I didn't get my license. I don't want to talk about it, suffice to say that I didn't fail the test because I never got to take the test. It's a long, stupid story of stupidity and I really don't want to talk about it. Anyway, I guess instead I will be getting my license in New York in November or December.

This month sucks.

( Because an update was promised ) AUG 22ND; 5 04
I've been fairly lax on, well, pretty much everything lately. I'm behind on work, writing, LJ, even cooking. IT SUCKS. But now that I'm back home (I'll explain soon...) and trying to piece myself back together, I promised an update and an explanation as to what the hell has been up with me, so here it is:

Spiders.

He is not our hero, damn you TMBG )

Unfortunately, this has all meant that my life has become incredibly scattered over the past week. Everything has kind of taken a backseat to, well, SPIDER HELL. Now that this saga is hopefully drawing to a close, though, I'm trying to get things back on track. Just in time to move. Woo.

In happier news, though, I'm taking the NH driving test on Monday. Wish me luck!

I just finished a reread of Watchmen. While, incidentally, wearing the super-spiffy Dr. Manhattan shirt that [info]derrygodo made for me.

But oh my God, I love that book so much. I was already worried about the movie sucking because of Zak Snyder, now I have to hope that Warner Brothers and Fox don't ruin it with the business politics and money stuff. I want so badly for it to be good! It deserves to have a movie that deserves the source material it has.

( Because food. ) AUG 15TH; 12 47
Okay, okay, as a self-proclaimed food lover, I realize I should probably do this meme that's been going around. So...:

Ganked from everyone on my friendslist )

64/100. Clearly I must do better. Maybe instead of the "100 things every chef should cook" list, I'll try tackling this one instead.

In food-related news, I made corned beef and cabbage for the first time earlier this week. It was, um, pretty much the awesomest. Especially having the leftovers for sandwiches for the rest of the week. Far from being sick of it, I'm tempted to go down to the co-op and buy another. The other big Meal O' The Week was mac and cheese with butternut squash, which I'm definitely going to try to make again at some point. It was good this time, but a little too sweet, and I don't think I had enough cheese.

Otherwise, I've actually been feeling a little uninspired the past couple of days. I'm running low on food, so I really need to cook, but nothing is really drawing me. I might just make a whole chicken and live off that for a while. It's kind of a good default. Plus, I make a really good chicken.

I did get a nice piece of corn from the farmer's market last week and still have yet to eat it, so I think that's happening tonight with the sirloin I've got in the freezer. Quick, easy, and delicious. My favorite kind of food.

And here we have yet another addition to the "why I loathe PETA" list.

Veg*ns, I'm all in favor of you, but you all need to start doing something about these shitheads who want to make the world think they speak for you. This is so tasteless that it's actually erased the taste of my delicious lunch and replaced it with pure ugh.

( My apartment is a Hellmouth ) AUG 4TH; 11 34
Things which make me seem more like a possibly functioning person: paying my bills; taking a driving lesson.

Things which do not:

I found a huge spider in my bathroom this morning. Needless to say, if you know me, it's still there. I know people say it's more afraid of me than I am of it, but obviously those people did not see me whimpering like a hurt puppy when I tried to catch it and it had the audacity to start moving.

Also, while I was on the phone with my dad (having, naturally, called him to cry about the giant maneating spider), something crawled up onto my hand. I may have shrieked and done a little dance.

The truth is, my apartment is constantly home to all kinds of creepy-crawlies, and I do not understand how they get in here unless they have supernatural powers. We're on the second floor, we have a double entrance, and screens on every window. Despite this, not a night goes by where I don't see some horrible little insectoid zooming around or making itself comfortable on my walls. I've managed to get rid of a lot of them, but this hellbeast of a spider has defeated me.

Anyway, I found a little hurty spot on my back that looks like a zit, so obviously it's a horrific bite that will kill me in days. Just so you all know.

(Apologies to [info]edward_hyde and any other creepycrawly-lovers on my flist. You do what I cannot: have love and compassion for these demonspawn. Truly, you are the Buffy to my Xander.)

( Screenwriters report in please ) AUG 3RD; 10 16
Now that I've left the hallowed halls of university and have struck out into the real world, I find myself with a certain dilemma on my hands; one that I hear is in fact very common to people of my ilk, i.e., burgeoning wannabe screenwriters. With this in mind, I submit this age-old question to you, my friends list:

Final Draft or Movie Magic Screenwriter?

I was raised on Final Draft, as I think most film students probably are, and I know it's still seen as the industry standard. But, I've been doing some poking around, and nearly every comparison review I've found says that Screenwriter is a much better piece of software. They're the same price, but I obviously can't afford both. So: your thoughts?

(In other news, The Dark Knight was awesome, but you all knew that already.)

Part II: This is awesome!
Part III: OH WHAT THE FUCK.

( I am a free woman ) JUL 15TH; 9 14
Today was my last day at work. Am a little too brain-dead to talk about it, partly because I did not get enough sleep last night (partly because I went out for drinks with my students, which is one of the perks of having adult students) -- but I'll say for now that the last couple of days actually turned out to be a lot of fun and I'm going to miss most of the gang. Actually, being alone in my apartment is kind of lonely now.

That said, I'm looking forward to returning to incipient lazy-slob-hood for a little while longer. After getting home and unpacking and dealing with various grownup things -- it turns out my electricity was almost shut off while I was gone, which is superfun -- I spent my entire evening having a Buffy marathon.

AHHHH PEOPLE ARE GETTING MARRIED EVERYWHERE. Watch as [info]arxev wigs out. I'm too damn young for this shit, okay. I have hit the next bizarre milestone, where someone I used to date, my highschool sweetheart, if you will, is getting married (hi bb, congratulations!). I'm super happy for her but that is just too weird for words. I am wordless.

Also congrats to Dave and his lady, who got married last night. Unfortunately I had to miss out on the wedding because my job is still not over. Almost there is what I have been telling myself all day. Almost there. On Tuesday I will be free.

Only two students showed up to Independence Day. I think the Koreans are all canoodling and the Spanish speakers are all out drinking or something. Clearly they do not know what they're missing! I may be biased, since I have a giant crush on Jeff Goldblum and a slightly smaller one on Bill Pullman. But come on, Will Smith punching aliens.

Vera is either a mystery wrapped in an enigma inside a conundrum, or a 21-year-old student of Dartmouth College. She might possibly be a double Japanese/Film Studies major. She may sometimes dabble in RPGs and other such geekly pursuits. She should certainly be considered armed and extremely dangerous... or harmless as a flutterby.
