After the summer [Jul. 24th, 2008|03:55 am]

[mood | awake]

As summer winds to a close several ongoing event came to completion.
I took Bus Cal This summer, My one and only math course needed for my Major. It was every week day for an hour for 2 months. I selected this course because it was taught by Mr. Chow. He instructed my Bus Stats I class, which was challenging but interesting. So for Calculus I decided that to do this right I must go to every class, and do the homework. The goal of never missing a class was a dual purpose. 1. he gave a 2% boost to your overall grade if you missed 1 class or less. And 2. If I go to every class I will not be surprised by material. But in the end I had gone to every class but I had missed one homework assignment. Lucky he went over the homework before collecting it, so I had time to copy and fake it. when taking the final I was thinking to myself that he could have made it much more difficult. I felt kinda bad that he held back.
The day following my final I worked. He came to my store with his wife and daughter. When he asked me a question about a movie I in return found the movie and inquirer on my overall grade. He was unsure but thought that I held my B together. I felt rather bad that he bought overpriced DVDs from B&N music store but I did not feel comfortable to suggest that he go else where. His visit on my work day brighten it up, so that it was not the worst closing ever. I say that it was almost because a Co-worker did not show up. She has been having relationship issues with her Husband for the last few months. as an example she was so tired on day that she could not stand up straight, customer complain to the manager. anyway in addition the being undependable she currently has no phone. Which means that B&N can not call her to tale her that she should be here. The other half of this almost the worst closing day ever was my Pleasant but quite sick Co-worker Robert. He had a bad migraines and stomach issues. His parents that saw him before he came to work felt that he should call in. But He knew that bad thing were afoot and Barnes and Nobles need him tonight. And after we had closed we discovered that the cafe only had one closer, 2 is standard but one is not unheard of. This meant that we could get no aid from our coffee slinging comrades. at the end of the night Robert said that if he had closed with Carolyn like the schedule was originally he would have left. Just given up this job and walked off.

Next day: Wake up with out getting enough sleep. Get in some semblance of order and Meet Sara and Jordan for Lunch at Bangkok Thia on airport. Sara had wanted more people but she could not arrange a go time, considering that I had to work that afternoon and other people had to work. It was good, we even got Jordan to have some simple chicken on a stick, and plain fried rice. I return home after this and play Dwarf Fortress until I absolutely have to get up and get ready. Just as I am stepping out the front door, the back poach is having work done, I see a box. Monday my father paid off a cerdit card account that I charge too, eh then asked how much it would be to get the rest of the computer I am building. I said $600, he said OK!! But after looking into it buying the level of parts that I want required more. $125 more. But I did get a bargain on an open box 9800 GTX OC Video card, and I bought Ram of a cheaper brand, it is still Top tier. But that was Monday, what is in the box. even thought I was running late I had to unload this first shipment. I received by motherboard, Processor , RAM, and Hard drive. This also included the free rainbow six game that came with by Video card. I installed the Mother board, processor and Ram tonight I hope the morrow brings the other half of by computer. sigh. The one down side is that I have on O.S. for it currently. I thought the I could get one through the MSDNNA, a deal were Microsoft gives Operating systems and non office utilities to computer students for free, but I was cutoff when I went to download my 64 bit Vista. This means I will have to weasel it out of Ian.

Day 5 [May. 20th, 2008|12:53 am]
[Tags|, ]

I was awoken in the night due to cold. My head was uncovered, so I had to cover it with my vest. when I got up a found that it was so cold the water faucet drip had created a stalagmite of ice. shown here.

so It was cold as I packed camp. I drove through the beautiful mountain pass as I headed towards Denver. Here is a picture of some mountain cliffs.

I ate breakfast in the Town of Eagle Nest. I had good hearty waffles and sausage. I eventually drove out of the mountains to the flat lands of Colorado. This is a Butte it was used as a landmark my people traveling southern Colorado. It is called El Huerfano.

My next stop was the city of Colorado Springs. I traveled through the city to the National Monument "Garden Of the Gods". It is a group of Red stone that suddenly stick out of the ground. The presentation is very impressive. The name comes from early Europeans that settled the area. since the surrounding area was very good for farming, and called eden. And since the native Americans worshiped on and around these great red outcropping the Europeans called it "The gardens of the Gods". anyway here are some pictures.

After this I made my way towards Florissant Fossil beds. It had a huge supply of Eocene Epoch period fossils. over 1,700 different species. but when I got their it was about to close. So I when to a nearby park to camp. It was $20 to enter and camp. the most I have paid so far. anyway after I set up I went to the nearby town to a pizzeria. At the pizzeria I had the largest meal I have had in many moons. It was composed of a large calzone with spinach, mushrooms, Italian sausage, and garlic, a lemonade, and tiramisu for dessert. It was large and fattening. It was Also too much. During this meal I was writing up some earlier entries. When I finished and pay, I left, went to camp and slept.

Day 4 Taos [May. 18th, 2008|12:47 pm]
[Tags|, ]
[Current Location |Home]

I drove through sevreal towns in the mountains, one of them was a town called Eagles Nest. It was based on a mountain lake. very Pretty.

I left the mountains for the flat desert. Taos was on the horizon. I slowly weaved through the crowded tourist infested down town. At this point I was quite hungry. Very Hungry. I stopped first at a bakery. It was closed. I stopped at another bakery, also closed. But next door was a shop that only sold paper good. I went in and got a card for my Mother.

It was a boutique shop. I would have bought some paper and nice envelopes if I had wanted to spend like $12 on ten. so I found no place to get a snack. I next looked for internet. I tried the library but you had to have a card to use their computers. Failing this I went to the parking lot and made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a turkey & cheese sandwich. when the sandwiches were finished I considered my next move. My laptop still did not have a stable power supply. I when in search of a store that would have a generic one I could use. I found a wal-mart in the urban sprawl. I asked if I could still bring it back if the packaging was open. They gave me the evil eye and said that is would be ok. Upon opening the power supply I see that it does not have any of the tips save open. Which does not fit my lap top. I bring it back and try to explain that it is missing parts and I thereby was defective. They could not comprehend the fact that an unopened product could not have all of its parts. The idea of manufacturer's error was anathema to them. After some convincing they opened the single other sealed power supply box and gave me the other tips I needed. during this whole process I was hoping that the new tips would work and that I would not have to make a scene to get a full refund. I was feeling quite abused by the corporate system. anyway I left going up to the mountains for camp. I stopped at a self pay campground, got change from a large group of campers, and I set up and cooked in darkness. it was cold that night.

Day 4 until the mountians. [May. 17th, 2008|02:12 pm]
[Tags|, ]

I started early and windy. after I checked out I when to get pictures of the petrified forest.

They had a corresponding trail, I hiked it. It when from the bases of these short mesa up a rocky path to the top of that mesa. It continued and met a longer trail. I kept going until the other trail ended a the road to nearby Kenton. Their I walked back to my car and drove to Kenton. The trail was about 1.5 miles, not a bad start for a day. In Kenton I when to the single store. Inquired about Ice. Which they did not have, and inquired about directions to New Mexico. They gave me rough directions but since their is only one road, it did not matter. As left Kenton I passed few Mesas including the black Mesa. The picture below is a nice looking Mesa.

and the one here is Black mesa.

you should be able to see that Black mesa has the dark volcanic stones on its top. They erode slower that the stones of other mesas, so Black Mesa is taller, and flatter. I had a picture of its flatness here.

When I exited Oklahoma, I saw a sign. "Next 17 Miles Unpaved." I though back and recalled the merchants of the Kenton store telling me this. It was fun. I took most of the road at around 55mph. It felt like flying. I never had the speed or desire to put the car into a drift around a corner. I knew that if my car failed on this road I would be quite alone. I got to Capulin Mountain national Monument. It is a dormant Volcano that is part of the Raton-Clayton volcanic field. I drove up to the cone. I decided that I wanted to hike the path around the cone. It was only a mile long and had 305 feet of elevation change. Hilly but not to difficult, right? wrong, the altitude just took my strength. The trail started at about 8400 feet up. I later learned that at 9000 you should worry about altitude sickness. That one mile high took about 45 mins, not the 20 you might expect from a normal trail.BUt I did get some pictures of the volcano range. here.

I have a corresponding picture that describes what you are seeing here.

when I hiked in to the cone. I ran into a city planner from New York city. The was on a road trip as well. When we got up we talked to two nice people from Colorado Springs. but when the conversation moved to the topic of baseball I politely excused myself, and left. I decided to drive to a large city to get a replacement power supply for my laptop. The nearest city of any size was Taos NM. To get their I had to take a mountain pass. The mountain pass took awhile due to is winding roads, and slow speeds. I will give a rant about my experience in Taos Next time.

Day 2 last half and three [May. 14th, 2008|12:18 am]
[Tags|, ]
[Current Location |laundry room in Chatfield state park, CO]

after Dallas, I got lost trying to find Quartz mountain state park. A local helped me find the proper park. I had a shower, a nice shower. but Since I did not buy food yet on this trip I when to the nearby towns to buy some. First I when to Lone Wolf. it was about 9:45pm and all shops where closed, even the gas station. Next I when to Granite and the story repeats. I return and eat cold rice, and bean salad. The next morning I wake up early and get a bacon egg and cheese sandwich from the granite gas station. also I got a picture of Granite's welcome sign because I like the idea that a town is named after a type of rock.

after this I drive to Texas, buy food at the town of Shamrock, and get to my next destination early. Black Mesa. I probably told most of you this before but for the sake of completeness I will tell it again.

Eleven years ago, by brother, mother, and I took a trip to the western lands, not unlike the one I am taking now. One stop was Black Mesa. Black Mesa is the highest point in Oklahoma. My mother wanted to hike it. Lewis and I did not think that it would be fun. Being that it is a Desert, summer, and a long trail. 3 1/2 miles. but Mom convinces us. I take one quart of water, Mom takes one quart of water, and Lewis takes the extra gallon. we hike up the mesa no problem, our water is running low but Lewis has enough. Lewis unhappy with out slow pace said that he will wait for us at the car, mom gives him the keys, and he walks off. About an hour later both Mother and I have run out of water. half an hour after that I begin to despair. My spirits are lifted when I recall that I have half a chocolate bar in my pack left over from last nights s'mores. we press ahead and reach the car. Our thirst was so great that Mother and I ate ice from the cooler. once we reach Black Mesa mercantile, the only shop anywhere near black mesa, mother confesses that the hike was twice as long as she had previously stated. Lewis and I used to refer to the even as the deception at Black Mesa. Also note that Mother was the only one seriously dehydrated.

So this place has some sentimental value. I did not hike black mesa on this trip but I did see dinosaur foot prints,

and the relatively interesting Colorado, New Mexico, and Oklahoma tristate marker.

I return to a very windy camp set up my tent and tried to cook. I tried to start a charcoal grill, with little success. And my camping stove is so frustrating that I eventually take all the flammable things out of my hatchback, and cook in the rear of my car. I then discover that my grill has some heat coming off of it. I cook two of my marinated pork chops on the stove, and two on the grill. I save the grilled ones for breakfast. with the pan fried pork chops I have mac and cheese. the kind with the cheese liquid cheese packet, not the powder. Then I sleep.

end day three.

Days 1 - 5 [May. 11th, 2008|08:15 pm]
[Tags|, ]
[Current Location |Divide, CO]

Day 1:
It began far to early for me. I was tired and not finished packing. Because of these facts I left an hour late. Leaving at around 11:00am. I had a pleasant ride through Mississippi and Alabama. Here is a pretty picture of the highway from Mississippi. I liked it so much I had to turn around to get a good picture.

Louisiana was not bad. I noticed that in Alabama and Mississippi I saw Hawks circling the Highways and Interstate, This is fairly standard from my experience. But in Louisiana when ever I saw a large bird it was an egret I think. Weird. During most of the drive I was pushing my car and my speed to get to the camp with day light.
Upon actually entering Texas I tried to use my printed directions to get to My camp site at Caddo Lake. I got quite turned around and lost my path. Then I switched to my back up plan, the laptop based GPS. It got me where I needed to be with out to much confusion. but I had not had enough time and It was way past night fall. As I entered the last leg of my Journey the rain started. real heavy rain. When I got to the park the ranger was siting in his car by the entrance. While we spoke about my check in the rain slammed down and he returned to his car. I made a night deposit and went to a site. It was dark and rainy. Setting up the tent was even tougher because this would be the first time setting it up. I put on my single LED head light and put it up in about 45 mins. the only food I had was old bean salad my father made and rice. I had some high protein bean salad and left my car for my tent. I took off my wet clothes and tried to sleep. I was woken up my being cold and the sounds of something brushing against the tent. The cold I decided to ignore but the sound of the scratching seemed quite loud. It did not go away. When I reached an appropriate level of frustration I grabbed my book light and when out side. I looked around for a few seconds, and It was a frog jumping against the tent. The light scared it away. I think I was the only person their over night.

Day 2:
I woke early, Like 7:30. And considering that I when to sleep tired and late I was surprised. The park was quite nice in the early morning. see here.

I when to the local gas station for breakfast. The had a short order chef. I got a chocolate milk and a bacon egg and cheese biscuit. they were quite good. When I left I noticed that the name of the town. Uncertain.. here is a pic.

It amused me. I really enjoy good names for towns.

I set out across the great flatness of Texas let me show you.

when I got to Dallas I shopped. I when I saw my favorite Store Fry's electronics I looked for a good 45 mins, and finally got a 6 LED flashlight. I also got directions to REI, a very large camping store. Their I picked up some more supplies and was on my way to Quartz Mountain in southern Oklahoma.

The shop I an in is about to close so I will finish up later.

My trip begins today [May. 7th, 2008|12:27 am]

[Current Location |Home]

I am leaving on a trip to the western lands. My current route includes the following stops.

1. Caddo Lake: it was the only naturally occurring lake in Texas until the early 1900's when it was damed. This is a state park, it has some trails but I am going to mainly enjoy sleeping there.

2.Quartz Mountain State park OK: A park in southern Oklahoma, it main feature is a large granite mountain. It has a good numbers of trails that climb the mountain. But again I will mainly be using it for a rest stop. I may spend an extra day here if I want too.

3. Black Mesa state park: This is a park that is linked with the highest point in Oklahoma. Eleven years ago my mother, brother, and I hiked this mesa to its top. We could not find the plate that denoted the the highest point in the state. giving up we hiked back to the car, Lewis got feed up with our slow pace and speed up, leaving mom and I. He was carrying the extra water and we ran out long before we reached the car, where Lewis waited. Looking back we called it the Death hike on Black mesa. on another note it was also the campsite had the clearest view of the star I have seen with out enhancement. I plan on spending a day or two there.

4. Capulin mountain: a volcano that was active about 56,000 to 62,000 years ago. It has a trail in the the collapsed cone. My mother suggested it, she remembered it being rather interesting when we went their on the trip eleven years ago.

5. Florissant Fossil Beds: A bed of late Eocene Epoch fossil. including imprints of lots of incests and plants, including flowers. Also has a some of the largest diameter perified trees. These trees are Redwoods and Sequoias.

6. Rocky Mountian National Park: Think rugged mountains and snowy peaks. These are them. I will be sleeping a nearby state park, the Colorado State Forest State park. It has a number of nice camp grounds,a dn trails, but I will spend most of my time at Rocky Mountain park and in Denver.

This is the primary leg. I will try to post with updates about my adventures. But here are a few picks of my equipment...

Ghost in The Shell: Innocence. [May. 2nd, 2008|04:20 am]
[Tags|, , ]
[Current Location |Home]

I just finished watch Ghost in The Shell: Innocence and I was impressed. I had watched half of the movie the day before and I had a few issues with their over use of CG and lack of dialog. But as I watch the second half I see how the creator used these elements to build the desired affect. I was impacted deeply by this Movie. It showed me what I like about cyberpunk, and futuristic settings. This is important because my friend Ian wishes to run Shadowrun soon after I return from my trip. I wish I found more American cinema that affected me in this deep meaningful way. A few weeks ago I watched Harakiri, an anti samurai movie done by Masaki Kobayashi, a long time writer that worked with Akira Kurosawa, it deeply impacted me as well.

I digress. Also on my mind, a new season of anime started in Japan last month. I found several show that I like. First out the Continuation of xxxHolic. The last season abruptly ended a year or so ago, and the new season does not pick up where it left off. but being very Episodic in nature it is not a big problem. The other series that I picked up was Kurenai. it is about a 16 year old kid that works as a "dispute Negotiator" (read hired Muscle) that is hired to take care of and protect a 7 year old girl that is running from a Yakuza family. Their is more to it than that but it is not for me to say hear.

On another note Finals are over as of today. I helped Sara move out of her dorms. And My trip is set for take off. I will leave Monday or Tuesday after my car is fixed. It had air conditioning problems, that found out that a relay was bad, took the relay from my fog lights and fixed that air with it. So i have to call Monday to see if they have the part in.

Dreams of travel [Dec. 4th, 2007|01:22 pm]
[Current Location |Home]
[mood | hyper]
[music |music will confuse the loose grip I have on this awsome dream]

This is my dream of the night it is very surreal and strange. I will say things about geography and relationships that do not make sense but where common place in my dream setting.

it begins with Jordan, Sara and I going together to Madrid Spain. We are with a normal tour group. we set up in the back of the plane. The plane is not normal. everyone loads in specialized wheelchairs and the rear of the plane is raised. SO from where Jordan, Sara, and I are we can easily see the rest of the plane. on my wheelchair we have brought a small algae eating sucker fish that lives in the pacific reef environment. currently he is just sucking on my chair like he would a tank. Now we are traveling to Madrid as I said but to get there we are traveling to this cool resort in Hawaii. The resort has appeared in my dreams before. It features many different pools for visitors to swim. Each pool is a different water based ecosystem. The large one is pacific reef ecosystem. I take my chair to this pool and roll my self in. I swim about and get out. then pull out the chair. we see many more of the same sucker fish on the chair with the one we brought. every other sucker fish is lighter than the one we bought and delivered here. we leave him and his kind in the pool and move on. I go in search of a fresh water pool deep in the strange hotel. I recall this pool are a square cut from earthen red granite like stone. The pools it just beautiful in my mind. the water is some clear and the artificial sun light is place in such a way that the water's surface reflects no shine to your eyes. you just see and very well shaped hole in the red rock and a slight blue tint as you look below the water line. It feels very dry in that room, like a desert. Now the hotel is tropical in some points but also feels like an alpine resort in others. Like you can find visions of snowy mountains and pine trees. Look in thought this place is like investigating a haunted mansion. some doors lead to strange rooms some doors are locked and some doors lead to normal scenes. I walk around investigating for a while and find a room that just has padded seats in it. I look up and see that the roof of the room is very high and determine that it is a drop ride. I recall this room from a previous dream. But I not do not ride it, I am looking for a rest room. I find a clothing workshop littered with felt pieces, like they just finished making costumes for a low budged Christmas play. I move on. finally I meet up with other people and interact with them. I recognize this one guy, he is a regular at the computer lab in the CIS area. He has always been pleasant and he is in the dream. I ask if he knows where I can find some thing to eat. he promptly gives my a large loaf of sour dough. I take it thankfully. He tells me to turn around and I find what I am looking for Allanah. She is dresses in her normal style of fashion but her hair has changed. it is now shoulder length with little green and yellow orange bits tied in small pig tails. the over all shape makes a round frame of her face. I as the man about the bath room and he directs us. We go. The bathroom is large, run down and unisex. we do our business and meet at the sinks. we wash our hands are begin the talk. the conversation is not like thoughts I had had with her for some time. It is more like the Allanah of high school that I recall so well, with bits and pieces updated to fit the modern Lady we know and love. The important thing is that she we not currently in a relationship and we talk about her last one. Then we discus my few miss adventures in romance and just talk for a while. I begin eating my bread and we find clean cups to drink water from. I offer her a piece of my bread and she said that she no longer eats bread. some dietary constraint akin to veganism.

I wake and record all I could recall.

I relize more and more... [Jul. 28th, 2007|03:44 am]

[mood | blah]

That my friends and I are disconnected. My fault really. I make only a little effort into trying to connect. Danm, it sounds like an emo post already.

Let me explain. wait never mind. Better to say, I really expect to much out of life, and people. I expect understanding, I expect closeness, I expect sensitivity. I really only feel this way around, 2 people outside my family. And I want to bang my head into a wall. Why only two people? I have guesses. but no real answers. I need to reset...

Edit: Hot DAnm. weird fan service anime is downloaded. I feel less emo.

P.P.S: I relized that I really just want something new. I was in a non anime mood for weeks. why? because I had just new episodes of old series to watch. as soon as I got new things to watch I feel like more anime.

My life, it is only simple when I do not post. [Jun. 1st, 2007|02:04 pm]
[Tags|, ]
[Current Location |home]
[mood | mildly amused]
[music |my house]

As I said I rarely post when my life is nice and simple, this is not good I know but that is the way I feel. Now Things that complicate my life in order of date, altered my occurrence.
     1. My favorite co worker, who I hit on repeatedly, moved back to Mississippi to live with her mother. I found out that She had just broken up with her Lesbian partner and moved out. I had no idea that she was a lesbian or that she was in a relationship. I could tell she something was up because she always held back about her past relationships, and claimed she was single. I thought that she had just dated a jerk previously and was possibly afraid to start a new relationship. But a lesbian, danm, I feel dumb.
    2. my computer died, like no turn on kinda death, not software. To fix it I persuaded my father to buy pieces to fix it. First a power supply. I reasoned that it should be the first thing to test. before I bought a new one I tried and old, low power power supply and had some small success. It did not fix the problem. next I took the computer apart and reassembled it. no change. Next I looked at the chip, it had no marks or burns and we got a new motherboard. that worked but I had to load a new version of windows on to my almost full storage drive. This means that I can install very little. And apparently my dvd burner and my floppy drive died with the old mother board. so I had to get a new Dvd burner as well. Exhale.
    3. The last thing is that my compressed logic class started. I don't like it. and it is two hours a day for a month. danm, my teacher is nice but still it is not fun. today was good because we learned logical fallacies. they are the best part of logic, because they can easily show if someone is a good, honest speaker or a hack.

On the other side of my life I have a moderate amount of fun.
    1. The meeting of Forged Souls in Montgomery was a lot of fun, even if it had setbacks, like Kris's  exploding tire. not a hole, it is a rip from the rim of the tire to the middle of the tread. The only problem I had was that I did not get the win the Munchkin game. I was so close as was Tucker.
2.I am finally to a place in WoW where I can start getting gear so I can later Raid with the guild.
3.I have been on a kick of making homemade Macaroni and Cheese. I make some in a crock pot and some on the stove top, our oven is dead. I hope we get a new one so I can back.

Also I got my vent server to work again. get on when you see me on WoW

[mood |dead]

Start. I have found to many weird things lately. First I found a really strange anime loosely based on Romeo and Juliet. It has dragon horses, and William Shakespear as a character. This concept of having the playwrite involved amused me so much. Most people would hate it due to inaccuricy but it is so fun, and has a few good action scenes. Also The third Maria-sama ga Miteru OVA is out. I was inspired by it to post. God the fun of misconceptions. And I have to write a program that does crazy things, and two finals.

I am one happy future IT guy. We got our new wireless G router today. The WRTGL, the L means I have twice the flash and ram of the normal Linksys G routers. Why is this important you ask. Because I can run open source linux based firmware on my router. I got it setup and ran some security test. This was the first time the Shield Up test gave me an all clear with out tweaking my router settings. I am so happy. today or tomorrow I will get the 2 wireless G cards for my mother's and my computers. Then I will only broadcast on G. HAHAHA, But really, it took me less time than normal to set up the router. normally I bang my head against a wall for 3 to 4 hours. this took 1.5 hours with a break. The problem was that AOL, which my dad had installed on his machine, port magic program stopped me from communicating with the router. But the new Internet Explorer, in all it evil, decifered the problem. God, the evils of AOL, and Microsoft counter each other to let Linux prevail.

Gainax Never fails to impress me. I just finished Petite Princess Yucie(Yushi in Japaneses) and it was so very well made and put together. The concept is based on two things, 1. a series of games called princess maker, where you raise a daughter and try to get her the best position at the end of the game. The other thing is the idea of ruler ship by divine guidance, aka one person from each world of the setting is chosen and the best suited at the end of the series gets the ultimate magical idem. which in this series happens to be the Eternal Tiara . Right every girls dream. Now When I herd this was a concept for an anime I was not impressed, but it was done by Gainax so I gave it a try. Like Fruits Basket the series starts kinda how you would expect it but the emotional side quickly is reveled. All of the issues where dealt with in the appropriate manner. Most where taken seriously but some had comical twists. And the ending was so good I had postpone my plan to write this down. This anime is so good I would suggest it for anyone reading my journal. It is great if you need an emotional boost.
