 | 09:43 pm - Character survey! I was tagged for this by someone on deviantART! It was pretty fun.
1. Choose a few of your own characters. 2. Make them answer the following questions. 3. Feel free to go ahead and add some questions yourself!! 4. Then tag three people.
I choose: Kengara Liigus Kirki Jeranga Dark Nova
Oh no all guys :O Sorta.
( Behind a cut cos it's kinda long! )
Now tell me, who do you think is your favorite? :)
I already tagged people over there; this is here just for fun. Anyone who wants to do it!

 | 12:56 am - Project Update Finished the Gene Stratton-Porter books. They were good. Now I'm onto Lord Jim, by Joseph Conrad. Not sure what I think yet. JC seems almost worse than Dickens for rambling o.O It got better when Marlow started narrating though, and hopefully, like Dickens, it'll improve even more when the author runs out of excessive description of everything and gets into the action stuff.
Also, look, an interesting plant! http://botit.botany.wisc.edu/toms_fungi/oct2002.html

 | 01:48 pm - I'm back! + July 18th Feature We're back from camping! It was pretty fun; we climbed a couple of mountains, walked to a stream with waterfalls, and ate some chanterelles we found. They were tasty. Also experimented with vegan marshmallowness. I got so many cool pictures of everything that I'm nearly bursting to share, but I'm going to restrain myself to one a day for the artsy ones, except for some which are pretty similar to each other, but I think for the snapshot memory ones I'll do a separate camping feature. But first to get through old new pictures :/ Here's one from before the trip.

 | 08:02 pm - Another gas post Oh, another thing y'all should know about: www.mygallons.com. For an annual fee of $30-40, you can buy virtual gallons of gas at the current average price in your area and redeem them for actual gallons anytime in the future, even if the prices have climbed.
For example: Buy 100 gallons at $4.23 (the current common price around me) and a year from now, when gas is $5.23 or $10 or anything, you can use those gallons you bought without paying any extra. Save $100! It's like investing in oil! Or more like stockpiling.
I haven't decided whether to do it myself yet, but you might see it as more of an advantage.
|
 | 11:30 am - "Cheapest gas in town: 99 cent bean burritoes!" Does everyone know about www.gasbuddy.com? It's a cool website wherein people post gas prices they observe in their area, and you can search and find the lowest prices around you. If you join you can post prices yourself and earn points which you can enter into contests for free gas and such. Neat stuff!

 | 11:45 pm - Project Update Well, I gave up on the Divine Comedy. It's just not something to be listened to as an audiobook. At least that translation isn't. I couldn't focus, I couldn't picture it, I couldn't follow. So too bad. I'll read it someday.
So, I went on to A Girl of the Limberlost, by Gene Stratton-Porter. Pretty good story. I plan to follow it up with the book that came before it, Freckles. The description of homemade foods herein are very tasty-sounding! Or it could be that I was just hungry at the time.

 | 10:07 am - No need for microgenocide! An article from Nature Reviews Microbiology:
"Triclosan-containing 'antibacterial' soaps are no more effective at removing bacteria from hands than plain soaps, according to a recent study. Moreover, the use of such soaps could potentially lead to the emergence of cross-resistance to antibiotics. Alison Aiello and Stuart Levy carried out a systematic literature review of studies that had examined the effectiveness of commercially available antibacterial soaps and those that looked at the resistance outcomes of triclosan use. Commercially available antibacterial soaps typically contain triclosan, a phenoxyphenol, at between 0.1% and 0.45% weight per volume. Aiello and Levy found that, from the four available studies, there is no evidence to suggest that 'handwashing' for a normal duration with a soap that contains triclosan at these concentrations is any more effective at reducing the level of bacteria that are on hands, or preventing common infections, than washing with plain soap. In vitro studies have indicated that exposure to sub-lethal concentrations of triclosan can lead to antibiotic resistance in some bacterial species, but further research is required to assess whether this extends to the community use of triclosan-containing soaps. Clin. Infect. Dis.
So think twice before getting the stuff!

 | 08:32 pm - Freeeedom? I'm pretty sure that a lot of the free songs iTunes gives me on Tuesdays have dirty spanish lyrics, but since they're in spanish, and because I don't understand spanish well enough to understand the lyrics, I can't tell, so I keep them because I like the music. I'll just have to remember not to play them in the presence of anyone who knows spanish. And not to learn spanish too well myself.
Instead I'll have to play songs like "Vitamins Are Good." Current Music: Kompressor - Vitamins Are Good

 | 10:21 pm - 100 Books meme 1. Look at the list and bold those you have read. 2. Italicise those you intend to read. 3. Underline the books you LOVE. 4. Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them ;-)
( Listening is considered 'reading,' right? Also, I don't remember all that I intend to read. )

 | 11:22 pm - Moving is dangerous o.O Even from just packing, I have wounds on no fewer than 30% of my upper digits! Though one was from pulling a sliver of glass out of my foot. Foot's fine, but my finger has a nice bloody hole in it :/ I can't even fathom how broken glass GOT on my floor.
