Are you sure none of you want to come with me on Friday 12th to see The Blacks? I have 2 spare tickets. ETA: for free!
To tempt you, here is a picture of the interior of the theatre.

Whenever I see something here I always have a great time. Even when the play isn't that good (which almost never happens) the experience is fantastic.
I have high hopes for The Blacks. I have seen other things that the directors have done there. Excalibah's hip hop dance version of the Pied Piper was stunning. Also, the Theatre Royal audience is like no other in any theatre I have been to. People don't restrict their calling out and getting involved to the panto here. I can't wait to see what happens with a controversial play like this.
And look at the image they are using to promote it Tameka Empson whited up as the Queen.

Look what happened to me at work today. A jack russell stood on my desk. The eagle-eyed amongst you may notice that I was browsing my lj friends page and not in fact working.
It's my last day at my placement tomorrow and I am both happy and sad to leave. Happy to be about to have the longest holiday ever since leaving school. (When I was a student first time round I used to work in my holidays) and sad that I have to go and do another longer placement somewhere else from September and it's looking like I won't get any place that I would choose to work.
I'm so lucky to have had such a good experience with this placement. So many of my fellow students have had a really shit time it seems. I can't think of a better indicator of a nice place to work than for it to be OK to bring in a little dog and for it to be OK for that little dog to stand on the desks.

Invoga the Yoga!
Jun. 16th, 2007 | 09:01 am
This quick post is a brief tribute to
jasonelvis. God I love him and in my opinion he was the funniest thing at the Transfabulous Tee He/She comedy night last night.
Jason was emceeing without having prepared anything but one joke. He told us that if he started to embarrass himself by doing something like robotic dancing, stripping or yoga we should shout out "invoke the joke" and he would tell it.
Of course, the audience didn't want a joke..we wanted naked robotic yoga! Sadly for you, I was laughing too much to capture the strip or the robot dancing to popcorn but here is some grainy mobile phone footage of the yoga finale.

ducklings!
Apr. 17th, 2007 | 06:42 pm
My internet connection at home has been down and it has been so frustrating cos I was desperate to share these poor quality mobile phone pics (click on the photo for 2 more) of possibly the best thing that ever happened on my street ever.
This duck and these 14 ducklings were walking up my street on Sunday afternoon when I got back from the shops. There is a park and a big pond at the top of my road but there are 2 side streets and a main road to cross so I decided to escort them there, stopping the traffic and saying "look at the ducklings" to everyone I passed.

crufts! crufts! crufts!
Mar. 20th, 2007 | 10:27 pm
My computer can record off the telly. I know... amazing isn't it. Anyway, I set it to record Crufts, the dog show that I've been obsessed with all my life.
Here is a little 4 min film I made from some clips from the BBC coverage. It took me ages because I don't know what I'm doing and had to make it up as I went along and I'm sorry about the annoying "unregistered version" banner in the middle.
I hope you can see it and enjoy it. I've made it so you have to wait til the end for the dog dancing with just a little teaser at the beginning.

meme
Nov. 13th, 2006 | 05:05 pm
Hello.
My internet is broken at home and I've been a long time away from my journal but I'm tempted back by a stupid meme having been tagged by
charlottecooper.
RULES: Each player of this game starts off with 10 weird things/habits/little known facts about yourself. People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 10 weird habits/things/little known facts as well as state this rule clearly. At the end you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names.
1. When I have an itch on my head, I like to scratch it like I am a dog. I make my hand stiff like a paw and 'kick' at the itch. This has become an ingrained habit and I sometimes do it in public without thinking.
2. I have spoken in tongues.
3. I can make my stomach rumble at will.
4. I first kissed a girl when I was 15 but I didn't know that the rainbow flag was a symbol of queer community until I was 21.
5. I'm a relentless worrier and don't know how to switch it off.
6. When I was 16, I cut off a chunk of my bottom lip as an experiment. It bled a lot.
7. I really love pus. I feel loss when there is no more spot to squeeze.
8. I can't resist picking and popping fuschia flower buds but then I feel bad for the flower.
9. I played 'brown girl in the ring' on my recorder with some other kids on Pebble Mill at One to demonstrate a computerised music teaching system.
10. I did an autograph signing as Paddington Bear, using a little paw shaped stamp.
That's all.
OK, I tag...

cuteness
May. 14th, 2006 | 09:12 am
Further to the sesame seed madness, yesterday I bought a teddy of this little fella.
http://www.san-x.co.jp/kerori/index.htm l
The teddy has a giant head and a tiny little body that looks like it is flying or swimming and it has a leaf on it`s head. When I saw him in kiddyland (yes, kiddyland) I strongly felt I couldn`t live without him.
We are nearly at the end of our japanese adventure. I`m going to write about it when I get home because I don`t know where to start and this japanese keyboard is tiny and confusing. Love to all from hiroshima, the mecca of the world peace. Dewa mata ne!

A cute country
May. 9th, 2006 | 09:11 pm
The cuteness in Japan has fried my brain. This morning I was dozing as the alarm went off.
beep beep beep..
I thought "Ah, that's the sound of some sesame seeds jumping round in a circle"
I am having a good time.

Belonging day
May. 1st, 2006 | 09:27 pm
The Bean didn't have a birthday, she had a belonging day instead and today is it. On May 1st 1996 I got her from Battersea Dog's Home. If she had lived she would have belonged 10 years today and been aproximately 11 years old.
I've been thinking about her a lot today even though I'm too busy getting ready to go to Japan to write anything proper about it here I have uploaded the pics of her funeral that we did on Easter Sunday (check the alt tags for brief explanations of the pics). C, S and I took her ashes and her toys to all her favourite places on Wanstead flats. We scattered her ashes and flung her toys for the last time and left them there for other dogs to find.
( Many pics )

I have loads of things I ought to write about, I went to France, I did the Bean's funeral, I'm going to Japan, The 123s are rehearsing and I'm going to buy my own bass guitar, interesting funny and cute things people with learning disabilities have said and done recently..
but
Fuck me! Look at Finland's entry for Eurovision this year!!!!!

At work, I overheard someone say "They are 32p now"
My first thought was "I expect they are talking about creme eggs"
Then I realised it was stamps and felt ashamed.

Kid Poetry

I wrote this when I was 12. Clearly I was a genius and I've wasted my life.
Anyone have any examples of their childhood poems to share with me?
EDIT..
I like this one too
January, June and July give me away as a child of the 80's don't they!

Usually I hate bingo.
Doing the work that I do I've been to lots of bingo games. Whenever someone suggests that going to the Gala might be fun and would I like to go I usually respond with my anti-bingo rant..
"Bingo! No way! That's not fun! It's like the worst kind of factory work. You have to concentrate and be quiet and you have no chance of winning cos everyone else there is an expert playing 30 cards at once."
But I had a really good time supporting E at his regular bingo game at the West Ham over 50's luncheon club today. I enjoyed it partly because E loves it so much and his enjoyment was infectious (and he won big today, lucky man) but mostly because the regular caller was off and his stand in used loads of bingo caller slang
I knew quite a few of them from long ago formed memories from holiday camp bingo halls but there were a few that were new to me. The other interesting thing was how a lot of the slang calls had this call and response thing going on with the punters. For example, when the caller said "on it's own, kelly's eye, number one" that was already familiar to me* but then one of the players would call out "spit in it".
Here is a list of all of the ones I heard used today, some familiar and some new to me.
What the caller said is in bold and what the punters said isn't.
1 on it's own, kelly's eye, number 1 spit in it
9 doctor's chum**, number 9
10 Tony's den, number 10 not for much longer
11 all the ones, legs 11 *wolf whistle* someone's got their right teeth in
12 1 and 2, one doz
13 unlucky for some, 13
16 1 and 6, sweet sixteen
20 two-oh, blind 20
21 key of the door, 21
22 2 little ducks quack quack thank you quackers
26 2 and 6, half a crown
27 2 and 7, a duck and a crutch
30 three-oh, blind thirty
33 all the threes, dirty knees scrub 'em
40 four-oh, blind forty
44 all the fours, droopy drawers get some elastic
49 evenin' all, 49
50 five-oh, blind 50
59 5 and 9, Brighton line woo-o-woo
60 six-oh, blind 60
66 all the sixes, clickety click
69 any way up, 69
70 seven-oh, blind 70
76 7 and 6, am I worth it? of course you are
77 all the sevens, 77 sunset strip thank you strippers
80 eight-oh, blind 80
88 2 fat ladies, 88***wobble, wobble
89 8 and 9, almost but
90 top of the shop, blind 90
I pretty much know what they all mean*, do you. Do you know any others? (no cheating by looking them up)
* Though I have no idea who Kelly was and why s/he had only one eye
** yes, really, she said chum not orders
*** At Nolose last year, there was bingo (competently organised and called by
jack_mcspanky, wasn't it?) and I naively assumed bingo slang to be universal and made a number 88 joke that no-one understood. Then I was further disappointed that the bingo cards only went up to 80 rendering my joke even more obscure and pointless.

a beautiful thing
Mar. 22nd, 2006 | 11:40 pm
I've been feeling pretty down about work recently. Many difficult changes and other grim things are afoot that I won't go into here.
So down in fact, that I've been thinking thoughts like..'It is possible to earn a living doing something other than support work. Maybe I'll train to be a plumber'
Then I have a day like today when the people I support have entertained, charmed and surprised me. For example, after a fry up in the caff, A drew a portrait of me and I drew one of him. Then we wrote our names next to our portraits.
I feel lucky.
